Part Fifty Two

"You're involved with my nephew." She said.

"He's an amazing guy," I said.

"He's married." She crossed her arms.

"He's divorced," I said back.

"Sorry, but Ciara will always be a part of this family.  You do understand the close relationship Cassidy had with Ciara?" She asked.

"I don't believe that's an issue now, is it?" I asked.

Now I see why Blaine doesn't care too much for this woman.

"It's not what she would have wanted for her brother.  I know everything about you, Miss Ashley.  The way you strung that poor doctor along all those years, and the constant partying you did with my niece." She said.

"What are you trying to say?" I asked.

"I'm saying, Ciara still loves her husband, but allowed her guilt over this whole situation to ruin her marriage.  Now that the truth is out, she will be back for him." She said.

"Does Blaine have a say, or is she just as manipulative as you?" I asked, and her husband's jaw dropped.

"Excuse me?  You think you know me?" She asked.

"I think I have a pretty good idea.  You used Cassidy as a way to stick it to her mother because you were jealous.  Blaine knows your games, and he's nowhere close to forgiving his EX-wife." I stressed the ex part.

"Savannah, you better stop.  Didn't you see the way he looks at this young lady?  He never looked at Ciara that way." Corey said.

"You don't know what you're talking about, Corey.  Cassidy wanted Blaine to raise Willie with Ciara." She said.

"Was she aware of the divorce?" I asked.

"Of course she was aware. Cassidy knew everything about Blaine's life, and she wanted him back with Ciara." She said.

"Well Cassidy didn't get to plan Blaine's life, and what she wanted for him doesn't matter. Blaine chooses his own path." I said.

She laughed.  "My sister may have wiggled her way into high society, but she had a way about her that you simply don't possess."

"What is your problem?  I care for Blaine, and he's made himself quite clear as far as we are concerned.  It's really not your business." I snapped at the woman.

She smirked.  "Even Cassidy said you were a low life."

I laughed.  "Cassidy would never say such a thing.  I have to wonder how much of what you've told him is the truth."

"Dammit, Savannah!  You know exactly how Cassidy felt about Cora.  You know she would be pleased to see these two happy. You're just pissed because you know he is going to cut you off." Corey spoke up.

She turned toward her husband.  "You're lucky I've carried you this long." She said.

"Carried me?  What the hell, Savannah?  You didn't earn any of this, but I carried you since right after high school, and you know perfectly well how bad I've hated being here. I never wanted to live in this cold, damp hell.  I had a career and gave it all up for that little boy." He said.

I quietly snuck out the door and escaped the screaming match between husband and wife.  I really only expected that behavior from the socialites in New York.  What I just witnessed was pure greed, and I'm shocked my best friend had anything to do with these people.  I'm beginning to believe Will was ready to jump in this car with us today.  I wouldn't blame him in the least if that was the case.

I climbed into the warm SUV Blaine's driver was keeping warm.

"Don't ever go into that house.  They're a bunch of nutcases." I said, and he chuckled.

"I'll take your word for it." He said.

My phone rang, and I saw it was Gray.

"Hi Gray," I answered.

"Cora, why do you ignore my calls?" He asked.

"Because I'm busy, Gray.  Not every moment of my day is set aside for you." I kind of snapped at him.

"Whoa, what's got your panties in a twist?" He asked.

I sighed.  "This whole Lisa thing, on top of these damn hormones and your constant calls.  You need to chill out, I'm serious, Gray."

"I just want to make sure you're alright.  I don't mean to upset you." He said.

I sighed again.  "I'm sorry, I know you're just concerned.  I've just hit my limit as far as Lisa is concerned."

"Then take a break from it, you're pregnant, Cora.  You can't take on all this extra stress.  The pregnancy alone is enough to cause you enough stress." He said.

"I know, and I am taking care of myself.  I'm actually doing well. I think Blaine and I both just need a break from this whole mystery." I said.

"Blaine?" He asked.

"Yes, he's her brother, and we have been working together to piece everything together.  He has taken the stress off me, and its almost over." I said, thinking I already mentioned Blaine to him on another call.

"How is our baby?" He asked.

I smiled.  "Good, today was a great day, and I didn't get sick or dizzy one time."

"That's great babe, when will you be leaving?" He asked.

"I'm not sure yet," I said.

"Can I see you? Just to see you're okay." He asked.

"No, I'm busy, and I'm not sure I will get the time away." I lied.

"Away from what?  You said it was almost over." He said.

"We just have things to do," I said.

"We? Just how close have you gotten to this guy?" He asked.

I paused and thought about it.

"We need to talk," I said.

"Please don't tell me you're fucking him while you're carrying my baby." He said.

"What I do with my body is none of your business." I snapped back.

"Jesus Christ, Cora.  You're carrying our baby, but you let him inside you?" He asked.

"Yes, Gray.  I'm sleeping with him, and it's him I see in my future.  I've told you over and over again that we were done.  You lie to me every damn time we talk and say you sleep with nobody else.  What you do is your business, and I've never even asked.  Just because we are having a baby, doesn't give you any rights over my body!" I yelled at him.

"Your body has been mine for ten years, Cora.  How do you expect me to react?" He asked.

"Gray, my body has not been yours exclusively for six years.  I've been with other men, not just you."

He didn't say a word.

"You've fucked other men while you were fucking me?" He asked.

I groaned.  "Of course I have, and it's not like you've not been with anyone else.  You lie all the time, Gray."

He laughed.  "You're right, I did lie.  Just like Lisa did, because I fucked her brains out too!  She never told you that did she?"

Suddenly I feel sick.

"You did what?" I barely made out a whisper.

"Fuck!" He yelled into the phone.

"Please tell me you did not sleep with Lisa." I started to cry.

He wouldn't answer.

"Gray!  Did you sleep with her?" I just about screamed into the phone.

"I'm sorry, Cora.  It was only once when you went home to see your parents."

"You're sorry?  You're sorry for accidentally sleeping with my best friend?  Thank God I left this town, because neither of you deserve my friendship." I started crying.

"Cora, where are you?" He asked.

"None of your fucking business!  Don't you dare call me or show up around my house or my parents.  I will let you know when the baby is born, and we'll work out something.  I am so ashamed to share a child with you.  I wish you weren't the father so I never have to see you again." I cried.

"Cora, let me come to you.  I am so sorry." His voice cracked.

"That's two of my friends now, Gray.  Two!  You are the biggest piece of shit I've ever known, and if you even care for me, you'd sign away your rights and never make me see you again!" I hung up and threw my phone.

"Ma'am, are you okay?"

Oh God, the driver was in the car.
