Prologue - Into The Unknown

Jason felt extreme pain all throughout his body. He was covered in cuts and buries, had almost every bone in his body broken, and his flesh was being burnt off by the raging fire all around him. It was like every part of his body was screaming at him in agony and if he still had any of his voice left, he'd be scream in agony right along with it.

Over the sound of his own blood boiling in his vains, Jason could hear the roar of a car engine which belonged to a person that could have saved him if they were just a little bit faster.

Jason didn't want to die, he wants to continue being a hero by his adopted fathers side, wants to eat Alfred's cookies again, wants to make his older adopted brother Dick proud of him, wants to protect people from the Joker (who did this to him) and protect other from people like the insane clown, wants to graduate high school and maybe go to college, wants to grow up and have a good long life. However, none of that was going to happen. Because Jason knew he was going to die tonight and he knew that it was inevitable.

If Jason had just listened and stayed where he'd been told then none of this would have happened. Someone wouldn't have snuck up on him, he wouldn't have been knocked out, he wouldn't have woken up in this warehouse, and he certainly wouldn't have been tortured, beaten bloody, and blown up by that crazy insane clown.

Oh, how Jason regretted not obeying those orders. Why couldn't he bring himself to listen this one time? Everyone knew that his recklessness would catch up with him one day and this was the consequences of his bad decisions.

As Jason felt his life slip away, he could hear two doors slam and two sets of footsteps running towards him before the 15 year old, second Robin, partner of Batman, found himself in darkness.

When Jason found himself waking up, he was confused to say the least. He slowly open his eyes blinking them rabidly trying to adjust to the lighting of the environment around him. When Jason finally opened his eyes fully he stared up a the sky above him. He blinked once, he blinked twice, he blinked a third time.

Why was the sky green?

Jason's body was too stiff to move so he just continued to lay there staring up a the strange green sky.

Where am I? Jason thought. How did I get here? What is this place?

After a moment another even scarier thought hit him like a bus.

WHO am I?

He knew his name, Jason, but that was about it. He couldn't remember who he was or who he used to be, and that terrified him.

He tried to think of something, anything that he could remember. Pain, blood, fire, and laughter all came to mind with a truck load of emotions. Angry, fear, sadness, and regret rushed through his body like a heart attack to his senses.

Jason cried, sobbed really, he managed to turn over on his side and curled into a fetus position as he cried his heart over thoughts and emotions he did and didn't understand.

Jason understood the fear of the unknown and fear of his missing memories, but what he didn't understand was the intense emotions that came with the few things he DID remember. Which, granted, wasn't much at all.

What happened to him? How did he get here? What is this place? Why was he here? Did he have a family? Are they out there looking for him? Did anyone miss he? Did anyone ever care he was gone? Did anyone care about him at all? Why did he have a craving for some old times snickerdoodles?

These are all questions Jason wanted the answer too.

After what felt like hours but was most likely only a few minutes. Jason sat up and whipped his eyes. Keeping his eyes closed, Jason took a deep breath and shook his head.

Okay focus, Jason told himself, assess your situation and figure out a plan now, wallow in confused self-pity later.

Jason took another deep breath before finally opening his eyes.

Glancing around at his surroundings left him even more confused then before. He ever checked behind him but everywhere he looked in all directions... It was just more green sky?

Jason felt the ground under his hand before he looked down and saw that he was sitting a chunk of earth that was floating in the middle of this empty green void.

Jason didn't know what to think other than that whatever drug he was on was doing it's job, because he was definitely tripping.

It not everyday you wake up on floading island in the middle of a green void with no idea where you were, at least Jason didn't think it was normal. He couldn't exactly remember if it was or not, but Jason was pretty sure this wasn't your average Friday night activity.

Jason was starting to panic a little bit. What were you supposed to do in situations like this? Because it's not like they do drills for stuff like this in school. He didn't have clue what was going on or how to handle it.

Focus Jason, he hear a voice in his head say, observe your surroundings. What do you have at your disposal? What do you have that you can use to your advantage? Focus.

Jason didn't know who that voice belonged to, but it was probably a memory of someone he used to know before he losted his memories. Either way he agreed with the voice, not knowing your environment is dangerous. It leave you vulnerable to surprises you're not prepared to face and blind to possible threats that you don't know too look out for.

Okay first off, does he have anything with him that could be helpful?

Looking himself over this was the first time he got a proper look at what he was wearing.

Jason found himself wear a black sleeveless hoodie with a red hood, a open black leather jacket with short sleeves, black fingerless gloves, black jeans with a silver leather belt, and black combat boots with sliver buckles. He had a knife make of damascus steel strapped to his right thigh, throwing knives in his boots, and two small knives hidden in his fingerless gloves.

Now that he knew he had a way of defending himself, Jason felt a little bit better about his situation.

Glancing around again, there was nothing on the floating island but himself, so Jason stood up and looked over the edge. There were more floating islands below him, but there were so far down that if he were to jumped down he would either break something or miss the islands entirely.

So, Jason put a hand on his chin and thought, there no way I can jump down that far. Hmm, is there anything I can use for rope around here. No? Dammit.

As Jason continue to contemplate what he was going to do, he didn't notice that his feet were no longer touching the ground. It was only when he try to take a step back from the edge that he realized he was defying gravity.

"What the fuck?!?" Jason screamed as he flared his arms before he fell the two feet he was hovering and landed hard on his stomach.

Groaning in pain, Jason puched himself up with his arms but he didn't stay on the ground for long before he started floating again, however this time he was floating upside down.

"The hell!" Jason yelp before falling again but this time landing on his back. Muttering a few incoherent swears, Jason sat up and put a hand on his forehead.

Jason once again resumed floating but this time only a few inches off the ground. Jason looked down and waved a hand below him to check if he was still touching the ground, and yep he wasn't.

"I can fly?!" Jason thought out loud.

This confused Jason, he didn't know if he could fly before he lost his memories or if this was new development. It felt new, it didn't feel like something he'd done before and just forgot he could do. It felt like something brand new that he'd never done before. But either, this ability could come in very handy.

A few bruises, lots of swears, and some possibly cracked ribs later, Jason thought that he'd gotten a hang of floating a few feet of the ground at will at the very least. He didn't think he could full out fly yet but it was definitely a start.

Now all Jason had to do was manage to float down to those other island and not fall to his death. What can possibly go wrong?

Walking to the edge of the floating island, Jason was nervous. He's only had less than half an hour of flight practice and now he's going to jump off a floating rock, Jason thought that he really must be going insane.

"Okay, Jason," He said to himself as he looked over the edgy. "Just jump and float down. Simply!" Jason ran a hand down his face as he muttered, "God, I wish I had some kind of rope or something." He shook his head, "You got this." Jason took a few steps back for a running start. "1... 2... 3!" Jason took off running and lept over the edge. "Geronimo, motherfuckers!" It took a few moments for Jason to realize that he wasn't floating down, he was falling and fast. "Oh, shit!"

Jason closed his eye and maneuvered his body to where when he landed he would break the least amount of bones. Just as he was a foot away from slamming right into one of those floating islands, he suddenly stopped midair. When Jason didn't feel an impact he slowly open his eyes and saw that he had activated his floating just in time before he slammed right into the rock, however his new found ability of flight decided to fuck with him and he fell to the ground right on his ass.

Well, Jason thought as rubbed his sore backside, that was... Something.

Look up, Jason saw that the new island he was on had plant roots of some kind connecting it to some of the other floated islands, the others were simply floating nearby. Thankfully, all the islands were only spread out about 6 feet at most from each other, so he could easily jump across from one island to the next without having to use his newly acquired flight ability. Jason, as a matter of fact, was quite glad they were so close together. After what just happened he didn't feel like taking another leap of faith today.

In reality, all Jason wanted to do was just sit here and maybe possibly take a nap, but he knew it wasn't a good idea to let his guard down like that in this umfamiliar place with possible threats lurking around. So reluctantly, he got up from where he was sitting, and seeing as has he had no idea which way to go, he attempted to make his way across the islands in a random direction of his choosing.

After what felt like ages of traveling across the floating islands, Jason spotted some larger islands and random floating purple doors in the distance.

Jason was wary of what may lay ahead of him but he also beginning to grow more confident able his situation. Now that he'd possibly found some form of civilization, he could find out where he was. Maybe he could possibly find a way back home, too! Wherever home is, exactly, he wasn't quite sure yet, but he'd worry about that later.

I can do this. He thought to himself. This'll be easy.

If only he'd known back then how badly he was lying to himself.

For now though, he was off, into the unknown.
