Character Introduction (Not a Chapter)

Mentors:

While I want to make it clear that they were incredibly abusive towards Ember when they found her, a.k.a, they are not good people, they still are people. They are not a plot device (Well, I mean, they kind of are) so here's this character sheet that I've made for both of them and a general idea of what they look like.

Repeat, they are not good people, but even abusers have hobbies, even murders have something they do in their spare time that doesn't revolve around hurting others. Don't worry, they do not have a redemption arc, I can already tell you that.

Master Gerald Fandural- Just like his wife, he chooses not to use magic professionally, he enjoys having the bragging rights that come with doing his jobs better than those who do use magic. Personally, he uses his magic as a way to irritate his wife and be lazy when they're alone.

His magic is a form of telekinesis, he can make any non living object float and he uses that to move things to where they 'aren't supposed to be.' Relych has nearly killed him more than once for doing this when she's not looking.

He's a hard ass, but he has a mischievous side that really comes out when he's alone with Relych. He enjoys cooking, as well as working out with his wife... Honestly, if he were sane, he'd be a really cool guy, as it is, he has paranoia out the wazoo and tends to lash out violently when he's stressed.

His wife can handle it, she enjoys it to an extent, because it gives her a way to support him in their relationship, and she really is one of the few that can calm him down during really bad panic attacks.

Mistress Relych (Ray-Litch) Fandural- Relych is far more chill about using her magic professionally, though she only does it to discipline and assert dominance at the guild. She also likes the satisfaction of knowing that she can do a better job on assignments than most others even without magic.

Her magic is in her whips, she can command them to do basically anything, including force them to sharpen or entangle the target to force them into submission. If she really focuses, she can make the whips channel energy, either draining the target or delivering the equivalent of an electric shock. She uses this both professionally and privately to great effect.

Relych has a rather intense case of OCD, which her husband loves tormenting her with every now and then, though he still knows how to handle her even at the worst of times. This mental illness is difficult for her to manage, but it's what made her one of the best managers of the guild's money back in the day, as well as the torturer.

She loves cleaning to an excess (Not the kitchen while Gerald is cooking though, she's learned to just stay away), and will clean for literal days when she's in the mood. She is regimented in everything she does, which Gerald appreciates more than he would ever admit, she's his rock and he's her voice of reason.

'Fun' Facts: They're both switches who like to experiment with... Unorthodox and rather extreme ideas. I leave what that might entail up to your imagination.

-They joined the guild that they eventually brought Ember into when it was first starting out. They may have killed the former leader for his incompetence, but it was thanks to their guidance that the guild became as infamous as it was.

- Their marriage is stable and healthy, they are both a bit screwed up in the head, but they   support and care for each other more than anything in the world.

- Neither of them have ever been assassins. They pushed Ember towards that path because they saw how good she would be at it, though they personally really hate killing people themselves.

- There's a town that considers Gerald to be one of the most brilliant painters of modern history. What really happened was he stole a priceless painting for the guild and on a whim decided to enter it in the town's art competition. Obviously it won first place, and his name is on a plaque in the center of town for his donation to the arts.

- Relych has a beautiful singing voice but gets embarrassed about it. She refuses to even sing in front of Gerald because she hates the sound of her own voice and it makes her feel uncomfortable when Gerald compliments her on it.

- Neither of them necessarily care for stealing, they did it to pass the time and because they hated how cocky legal guilds could get.

- While neither of them had a particularly traumatic childhood, they were both social outcasts growing up because of their mental illnesses. They were actually childhood sweethearts and officially got together after they robbed the mayor's office in their home town and ran away.

-Gerald's parents are still fully supportive of the life choices he's made and sends him cards every year.

- They've never told the Guild's that they've been members of, their names. This made it easier for them to separate their home selves from their more... sadistic halves.

- They both love and hate Ember. They brought her into the guild and she turned into the best assassin in Fiore, which made them proud, but at the same time, they both resent her for her weaknesses... In a way, she represents what they see as both the best and the worst in themselves.
