Chapter 34: A Forgotten Enemy
Third Person POV
Not far from Jump City, in a grungy motel, a hooded figure entered one of the rooms. He threw the room key and four small black bags on the nightstand before staring at the bed. From under their hood, the figure raised an eyebrow at the poorly made bed, but couldn't help but stare at it in awe. Even though he had been Champion and that comes with certain privileges, they never gave him a bed. How long had it been since he had slept on anything that gave him the slightest bit of comfort? Well, there was the time when-
"Oi, Boss." A gruff voiced man said from behind the figure, interrupting his thoughts. The figure whipped around, grabbing the owner of the gruff voice by the throat and squeezing, staring at them with his burning blood red eyes. "B-Boss... It's just me..." The gruff voiced minion managed to squeak out.
The figure immediately loosened his grip on his captive and watched as he fell to the ground. "Pathetic." The figure muttered, turning away from the gruff voiced male. "What do you have to report, insect."
The figure's minion coughed a few times before adjusting their hat and rising to face his master. "The others have been keeping an eye on him as you ordered. His location is known to us." The gruff voice reported, "Problem is, we have a lot of other people to deal with if we want to take him down."
The figure frowned. Was that his goal? Was that what he had ordered so long ago? To take him down? Wasn't it just to take him? No, he was an obstacle, another insect he needed to stomp out of existence. No, wait... That wasn't it... He wanted to make him his...
The figure suddenly clutched their head and sank to their knees, groaning in agony. His heart beat was racing and his vision was going blurry. The lights shined in his eyes, and there was a buzzing sound in his ears. His chest burned as the voices returned. They were angry, but he couldn't tell if they were angry at him or...
"Boss? Boss!" The gruff voiced minion shouted, concern obvious in their tone.
"Black... Bag..." Was all the hooded figure replied as they pulled at the hood covering their face. Their body was trembling and the air in the room seemed to get a lot thicker. The lights were getting brighter and the voices were screaming now.
The minion scanned the room, searching for a black bag. He spotted it on the nightstand and quickly grabbed it in his talons. He handed it to his master who greedily poured the contents out of the bag into his hand before tossing whatever had been in the bag into his mouth. After a moment, the figure returned to a normal state.
The figure stared at the black bag in his gloved hands. This was bad. The symptoms were getting worse and he had a limited amount of supplies. He was running out of time. He needed to find his target and fast.
"Send a message to the others." The figure commanded, rising to his feet. His eyes burned with a fiery passion. He didn't care how long he had been gone. Twenty years is a long time to be gone; but not long enough for his target to have gotten much stronger, especially without a skilled mentor. Even if his target had gotten stronger, the figure was not concerned. He was Champion, in every sense of the word. The figure faced his minion, a sly grin cracking his hardened features, fangs glinted in the moonlight
"I will be coming very soon."
Hey-o, it's Normal Line Break. That seemed like quite the opener huh? Bet the suspense is ramped up. Or maybe I don't know anything and you're all like 'meh whatever'. Anyways, enjoy the rest of the chapter I guess.
Cyborg, Beast Boy and Danny were all currently down in the garage. Cyborg had finally agreed to letting Danny help him with a system test on the T-Car after their latest battle with Gizmo. Beast Boy tagged along because he felt that this was going to be interesting.
The young halfa currently sat in the driver's seat of the T-Car, hands on the wheel. Cyborg stood in front of the car while Beast Boy was off to the side on a stack of boxes. The hood was opened and wires were connected into Cyborg's robotic arm. A holographic screen floated above his arm as Cyborg tapped a few commands into his arm. "Okay Phantom, there should be a green wire connected to a blue switch in a panel beneath the steering wheel," Cyborg informed the teen. "I need you to remove it and connect it to a white connector that should be right beside it."
Danny nodded and looked under the steering wheel, opening the panel. He did as he was instructed and heard Cyborg shout something. "What?" Danny asked, raising his head to look at Cyborg. The halfa's eyes widened when he Cyborg singed and smoking while Beast Boy was trying very hard to not fall off the boxes he was sitting on as he was laughing so hard. The teen phased out of the car and rushed over to Cyborg. "Hey man, are you okay?" Danny asked, trying to mask the laughter in his voice as concern. Cyborg slowly nodded and cracked a smile, though it was obvious he was in a lot of pain.
All of a sudden, Danny's communicator went off. He smiled sheepishly at the two other heroes as he stepped off to the side to take the call. Danny opened the communicator and was greeted by Robin's scowling face.
"My room. Now." Was all the older hero said before the small screen went dark.
Danny gulped nervously. Was Dick mad at him? Had he done something wrong? Danny decided it would be best not to dwell on the topic and just go see the elder Grayson. The young halfa phased straight up through the tower and into Robin's room where the colorful hero was waiting.
As Danny dropped his intangibility he saw Robin sitting on his bed, a holoscreen beside him. The white-haired teen immediately understood what was happening. Danny gave his brother a smile and grabbed the holoscreen, leaving the room and phasing into his own.
His room at the tower was by no means glamorous but it was welcoming. He had black carpeted floor paired with white walls. There was a twin bed in the corner of the room with black and white sheets. A white nightstand rested beside it. Danny had to admit his room was a bit plain but he had only been with the Titans for almost two weeks now and decorating hadn't exactly been the number one thing on his mind.
The teen sat on his bed and set up the holoscreen, a wide smile on his face. The screen flickered to life and he was soon looking at Batman's scowling face. Danny mentally sighed, he guessed that Bruce and Dick had another one of their arguments again. After Danny had finally been reunited with Dick and Bruce he thought that their falling out would be resolved. It wasn't and it didn't look like it was going to be solved any time soon. If anything, it had gotten worse. Dick never talked to Danny about Bruce and vice versa. Danny couldn't help but shake his head at the stubbornness of those two.
"Hello Phantom. I trust you are doing well." Batman said, his scowl fading a bit once he saw Danny's smiling face.
The halfa nodded. "Yep, the team is really great and the city is amazing." Danny reported. He tugged at the collar of his suit. "The only problem is I haven't transformed back in a while and I'm getting pretty tired of Phantom 24/7."
One of the rules that had been established when Danny was granted permission to go to Titans Tower was that his identity had to remain a secret. Only problem with that was it meant he couldn't de-transform. Sure there had been moment when Danny was alone and he could revert back to human form for a little while, but nowhere near long enough for it to be effective. Staying in his ghost form constantly really tired the teen out. He was currently going on his fifth straight day of being Phantom. He was ready to drop.
Batman placed a hand on his chin, thinking over the situation. "Maybe it was a mistake to allow you to stay at the tower." He mused. "Maybe you should come home."
Danny's eyes widened and he quickly shook his head. "No, I'm fine really. Just a little tired is all." He assured the Dark Knight.
Batman's eyes narrowed skeptically but he didn't push the matter. "Very well," he replied, "just make sure you get in a bit of rest before the next mission."
Danny smiled and nodded. "Will do." With that, Danny closed off the holoscreen and placed the device on his nightstand. He flopped down on the bed and closed his eyes, already feeling the welcoming darkness of sleep start to claim him.
Just as the teen felt a familiar cold sensation begin to wash over him, a sudden knock on his door jolted him from his slumber and straight into the hard ceiling. Danny let out a yelp of pain, quickly rubbing the top of his head as he felt a headache start.
"Danny? Are you hurt?" Starfire's concerned voice came from the other side of the door.
The halfa slowly floated back down to the floor, still rubbing his pounding head. "Yeah, sorry. You just startled me." Danny replied.
"Oh, I am sorry for startling you." She apologized. "Well, we are all going out to the Pizza Corner to grab some pizza. Do you wish to come?"
Danny smiled, forgetting all about his headache as he rushed to the door. The call of his stomach was louder than the call of his bed now. He opened the door and phased directly through Starfire, much to the Tamaranean's surprise. "Race you there!" Danny shouted back at her, laughing.
Starfire grinned and narrowed her green eyes. "Oh it is being on now, Danny Phantom!" She roared as she raced after the ghostly teen, laughing loudly.

All six members of the Titans currently sat outside at their favorite pizza restaurant, eating their individual slices. Danny thought it was amazing that they could be in uniform and out in the open like this. It felt weird, but good at the same time.
Danny looked around the table at the other teens and smiled softly. He was happy his older brother had found such great friends after his falling out with Bruce. Without them, who knows where Dick would have ended up.
The teen felt something tap his shoulder and he turned to see Raven raising an eyebrow at him. "You okay Phantom?" She asked, holding a slice of pizza in her hand. Danny gave her a quick nod and smile before he started munching on his own slice of pizza.
"Hey man! No fair!" Cyborg shouted at Robin. The team looked over to see Robin holding the last slice of pizza in his gloved hand.
"Sorry Cy, but you snooze you lose." Robin replied with a chuckle. A sly grin appeared on Danny's face as he turned himself invisible and phased through the table. "Hey!" Robin shouted as the halfa snuck up on him and snatched the slice out of his hand, flying high into the air above the table.
Danny laughed as he dropped his invisibility. He dangled the pizza slice over Robin's head tauntingly and raised an eyebrow. "Sorry Rob, but you snooze you lose." He chuckled.
Robin fumed as his words were turned against him and the others laughed at the joke Danny pulled on their leader. Before the halfa could take a bite out of the pizza, Robin hopped onto the table and leaped into the air, tackling Danny to the ground. The two teens laughed while they struggled on the ground while the others - save for Raven - cheered them on.
Unfortunately, the two boys' fight was put on hold by the sound of an explosion not too far away from their current location. All heads whipped in the direction the sound came from. Danny and Robin stood up and stared into the distance. The whole city seemed to have gone quiet.
Then suddenly, a barrage of shapeless green blobs flew past, knocking into parked cars, lampposts and even a few unlucky pedestrians. "What the heck!" Beast Boy shouted as he ducked under an oncoming green blob. "What are these things?!"
Before anyone could reply, Danny felt a familiar cold feeling in his chest as blue mist breezed past his lips. The halfa's eyes widened as he realized what that meant. "But that's impossible." He thought. "There's no ghost portal here." The teen's eyes widened as he remembered that there didn't have to be a man-made ghost portal in order for there to be ghosts. Natural portals were created all the time. But that still didn't really answer the question as to why the ghosts were there. He could understand ghosts in Amity Park because there was a high concentration of ecto-energy there; that's how the Fenton Portal worked so well and why so many ghosts are drawn there.
During his time in Jump City, Danny had not sensed even the slightest amount of ecto-energy. A portal forming there made no sense. Then again, these were ghosts they were dealing with and hardly anything about them ever made sense.
"They're ghosts." Danny said as he exhaled more blue mist.
"Phantom? You feeling alright?" Cyborg asked, confused at seeing the mist.
Danny nodded. "It's just my ghost sense. It lets me know when ghosts are nearby." More blue mist poured out his mouth and Danny felt a chill run up his spine. "And right now it's going crazy. There must be dozens of ghosts here. Hundreds even." The teen started to shiver as he felt his body temperature drop. That paired with his ice core, lack of sleep and the fact that he hadn't de-transformed in almost six days didn't help matters either.
"You're not looking too good Danny. Maybe you should sit this one out." Raven said as two green blobs flew past her, making her cloak fly up in the breeze. She muttered a small spell, erecting a shield around them to protect them from the blobs.
Danny shook his head. "No. I-I'm f-fine. Really guys it's n-no big deal." He chattered. The teen took one step forward and his knees buckled under him. He would have fallen face first onto the pavement if not for Cyborg's fast thinking. He lunged forward and caught the white-haired teen by his shoulders.
"Hey man, there's no shame in sitting one out. Especially when you're like this." Cyborg assured him as he helped Danny back to his feet, allowing Danny to use him as a support.
Danny shook his head. "No, you g-guys n-need me for t-this one." Danny argued, his teeth chattering. "I'll b-be fine." The teen tried to prove his point by releasing Cyborg as his support, only for him to shiver so violently that he fell forward once again and was caught by Starfire.
Robin sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "You make a valid argument Danny, but in your current state you won't be of any help." He turned his gaze to the group and began issuing orders. "Cy, you and Beast Boy go investigate the area where those ghosts came from. Raven, you and I are going to start heading in the direction they went and do as much damage control as we can." Robin turned back to face Danny and Starfire. "Star, you take Danny back to the tower and then come regroup with whoever you can."
"R-Robin." Danny started weakly, but trailed off. This was weird. He'd never felt like this before. Something wasn't right, and he needed to figure out what it was, fast.
"Alright. Titans, go!" Robin shouted. Raven raised the shield and everyone darted off in their instructed directions. Starfire slung Danny's arm over her shoulders and took to the air, avoiding the ghostly green blobs.
Danny watched as they flew further and further away from the others. "I... need... to help... them." Danny muttered weakly.
Starfire frowned as she glanced at Danny in the corner of her eye. "What you need is rest." She scolded. When she saw the pained look on Danny's face her face softened. She could practically feel the cold radiating off Danny. It was like the boy was a mini freezer! She sighed, fighting down a shiver. "As your friend I am telling you that you need rest. Robin is a good friend. He cares about you. As do we all." She told him.
Danny bit his lip and nodded. The rest of the flight back to the tower was silent, with Danny desperately trying to figure out what was wrong with him.
littlest line break here ^-^ hope everyone is enjoying the update!
Cyborg fired his sonic cannon at the green blobs circling him and Beast Boy. The green-skinned teen had morphed into tiger and was pouncing at ghosts, taking down as many as he could. "They don't stop coming!" Cyborg shouted as he released a large blast, taking out a small portion of their attackers. Beast Boy growled in agreement.
Just when the situation started to seem hopeless and Cyborg thought about calling a retreat and regrouping with Robin and Raven, the ghosts suddenly stopped their attack. While Cyborg and Beast Boy appreciated the break, they didn't drop their guard. Cyborg kept his sonic cannon charged and Beast Boy remained in tiger form.
The cluster of ghosts separated to reveal a floating hooded figure. None of the figure's facial features could be seen and their cloak covered their entire body. The two teenage heroes trained their gazes on the newcomer, preparing to attack.
"Where is he?" The figure asked, their voice revealing them to be male. "I know you have him, so let's make this easy and just hand him over." The figure extended a callused hand out to the teens as if expecting them to hand over whatever he wanted.
Beast Boy and Cyborg shared a confused look before focusing back on the stranger. "Look man, we don't know who you're talking about." Cyborg answered.
The figure seemed to be annoyed by this news as he clenched his hand into a fist and a soft red glow could now be seen from under his hood, right where the figure's eyes would be. "It is not wise to make me upset, insect." He growled, his eyes burning with hatred. "Unless you want to face the wrath of Champion, I suggest you give me what I seek."
Cyborg grinned. "Oh, I'll give you something alright." He said as he raised his sonic cannon. Cyborg fired a short blast at Champion as Beast Boy leaped into the air to attack the floating man directly. Champion easily dodged the blast and merely swatted Beast Boy away as if he were a house fly.
Champion sighed softly as his hands glowed bright with black energy. "I told you not to upset me, pitiful insects." The energy in his hands started to morph and change into small black orbs as his glowing red eyes narrowed in on his targets. "If you will not give me what I seek, then you are in my way. Therefore, you must be erased." Champion growled as the orbs in his hands grew bigger. The ghosts around them started to float closer to Champion. Even though the blob ghosts lacked faces the teen heroes felt like there were thousands on eyes on them.
Cyborg and Beast Boy stared at the glowing black orbs and shared a quick look. They tried to turn and escape but they were surrounded by the blob ghosts. There was no way out. They faced Champion as he drew back and prepared to fire the black orbs. Beast Boy was in the middle of morphing out of his tiger form and into an animal that would be able to save Cyborg and himself, when Champion fired the energy orbs.
As the black orbs neared them, a fiery haired girl flew into the ring of blob ghosts and grabbed her two friends, carrying them far away from danger. The two black orbs made contact with the ground where the two teen heroes had been standing moments ago and a large explosion rocked the ground. Pavement and gravel flew into the air, windows in nearby buildings shattered and the road was blown to pieces.
Cyborg and Beast Boy stared at the wreckage in awe. "Thanks for the save Star." Cyborg thanked.
"You are very welcome." She replied, not slowing down in her speed. "Now quickly, we must regroup with Robin and Raven. I have a very bad feeling about this situation." Starfire released Beast Boy from her grip as he morphed into a Pteranodon. Cyborg dropped from Starfire's hold and landed on Beast Boy's large back. The robotic teen turned to look behind them and his eyes widened when he saw Champion and his army of blob ghosts chasing after them.
"Guys!" Cyborg shouted as he charged up his sonic cannon. "We got company!" Cyborg fired at the oncoming attackers and Starfire spared a few seconds to turn and fire starbolts at the enemy.
Beast Boy let out a screech and Cyborg and Starfire paused in their attack to see Robin and Raven in the distance. They were currently holding off another cluster of the blob ghosts while the nearby civilians evacuated the area. The three Titans in the air dropped down to help their friends, while also planning on giving them a brief update on who they were dealing with.
I AM THE GREAT AND POWERFUL LINE BREAK MAKING MY NECESSARY APPEARANCE IN THIS CHAPTER! GIVE TO ME YOUR OFFERINGS OF GOLD AND OTHER RICHES! NOW YOU MAY CONTINUE READING!
Back at the tower Danny rested on his bed, curled up under his blankets. He had transformed back into his human form with the smallest hope that it would help get rid of the chills he had, but it hadn't worked. He still felt like a human freezer.
Danny couldn't figure out any reason why he felt like this. Even when Pariah Dark invaded Amity Park and brought his army along with all the ghosts fleeing from his return he had never felt like this. Did it have something to do with the amount of time he had been spending in his ghost form? Or maybe those blob ghosts were behind this?
Either way, he still couldn't sit in the tower and do nothing. His friends were out there fighting an enemy that Danny was sure they had never fought before. Ghosts were his thing. So, he began practicing the technique Frostbite had taught him. He expelled all the cold out of his body in a controlled blast, then transformed back into his ghost form to use some of his ice abilities to get rid of any extra cold.
After that, despite still feeling a bit of a chill, Danny felt much better. He grabbed a special souvenir he kept hidden under his bed before looking at the door of his room. The rebellious halfa grinned and phased up through the roof of the tower, rushing back to the city where his friends were currently fighting.
The Amazing Line Break is here to brighten your mood! HI!
"There's no end to them!" Cyborg shouted as he freed Raven from a blob ghosts hold. Raven nodded quickly at him before commanding a large shadow to trap a nearby cluster of the blob ghosts.
"Keep pushing forward!" Robin ordered as he used his staff to knock away a blob ghost. The raven haired teen removed two explosive disks from his belt and armed them, throwing them into the center of a group of the blob ghosts. They went off, scattering the ghosts and creating an opening. "Everyone! Move!" He shouted as he pointed towards the opening. Beast Boy grabbed Cyborg and Starfire grabbed Robin as Raven led the way out through the opening.
"We can't keep this up for much longer." Raven said as she flew alongside Robin and Starfire.
Robin sighed. "You're right, and I know it too. But we can't give up." They had fought all sorts of villains before. Aliens, humans, meta-humans, monsters, you name it. But never had they fought ghosts before. He had to admit Danny would have been very useful in this situation. But the teen was not well and he wasn't going to force an ill teammate - who also just happened to be his brother - to fight.
"Guys! It might just be me, but I think the blobs are getting faster!" Cyborg shouted. Robin and Raven both turned their heads to see a wave of the green blob ghosts getting closer and closer to them. At this rate, they would be caught in minutes.
Just as the wave of ghosts was about to come down on them, they all became trapped in a blue beam of light. The Titans stopped in their escape to watch as the ghosts were pulled by the blue beam of light into a small cylindrical container, held by none other than Danny Phantom.
Robin smiled at the white-haired hero. "Danny Phantom, you disobeyed an order to rest." He shouted up at the teen. Danny hung his head, embarrassed and Robin chuckled. "But I'm glad you did!" The raven-haired teen quickly added. Danny lifted his head and smiled. He flew down to the other Titans, attaching the Fenton Thermos to his belt. The six heroes dropped to the ground to fully regroup.
Beast Boy morphed back into his human form and stared in awe at the device on Danny's belt. "Dude! How did you do that!?" He asked excitedly.
The young halfa patted the thermos, a fond smile on his face. "It's called the Fe-" He paused, "I mean Phantom Thermos." He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's a device that allows me to catch ghosts so I can then release them back into the Ghost Zone." The others stared at him blankly when he brought up the Ghost Zone. Danny mentally slapped himself, of course they wouldn't know about the Ghost Zone.
Before Danny could elaborate on what the Ghost Zone was, Starfire screamed, "Look out!" The Titans looked up to see an orb of black energy heading their way. At once, they scattered in different directions to avoid the orb. Raven grabbed Beast Boy and Cyborg in a shield, Starfire snatched Robin and flew into the air while Danny followed, erecting an ecto-energy shield around them. The orb made contact with the pavement, blowing it to smithereens.
"What the heck was that!?" Danny shouted, looking around wildly for whoever fired the orb.
"You lied to me." A voice echoed sadly. All eyes went to a figure floating in the middle of where the orb had been fired. "I can sense him. He is here." The figure said softly. He looked up at the heroes, red eyes burning from under his hood. "Where are you hiding him? Tell me!" The hooded figure demanded.
Danny felt a dozen chills run up his spine and his ghost sense began going off like crazy. His teeth chattered loudly and his body shivered violently as he lost his focus and dropped the shield surrounding him, Robin and Starfire. "N-not g-good." He commented as he felt his ice core throb.
The figure's red eyes fell upon Danny. A soft gasp passed his lip as his blood red eyes widened. "You? But, how is that possible?" He whispered. He began to float higher into the air, watching the shivering form of the young halfa.
"Danny? Danny! What's wrong?!" Robin shouted, wishing more than ever that he had the ability to fly at that moment so he didn't have to rely on Starfire holding him and he could go to his brother. Danny wasn't answering Robin, his teeth were chattering so much he feared that if he tried to speak he would bite off his tongue.
All of a sudden, a blue energy shield separated Robin and Starfire from Danny. The figure flew at the shivering teen and grabbed him by the front of his suit. "You're the same! The exact same! How?!" The figure screamed.
Danny was too cold to think of a clever reply or even be scared. Then, Danny felt an ache in his core and, for some strange reason, his shivering lessened. His teeth stopped chattering so badly that he couldn't speak and he felt his body temperature slowly start to rise. There wasn't any time to think about this strange occurrence, he had to get away from this obviously dangerous guy.
The other Titans dared not attack for fear of hurting their teammate but if looks could kill, that man would be dead five times over.
The figure continued to stare down at his target. Nothing made sense at that moment. Time had passed, but not for him. He had grown, but the boy had not. Why was this? Did they do something to him? Or was something done to the boy? A low growl sounded in the man's throat as his head pounded with questions. They would have to wait until later, he had his target now. All he needed to do was escape and everything would be fine. A strong gust of wind blew by and the figure's hood was blown off, finally revealing their face.
Danny's eyes widened in shock. "N-no." He chattered. "Y-you?! H-ow is t-that p-possible!?" The cold feeling continued to lessen, slowly but surely, as Danny took in the features of his long forgotten foe.
The hooded figure smiled down at him, fangs glinting in the sun. He could hear the teen's racing heartbeat and felt pleasure at seeing his panicked face. It reminded him of his time in the arena. He pulled Danny closer and brought his lips to the teen's ear. "Did you miss me?" He asked softly.
"Little Badger?"
A/N: Hey guys. First off, I wanted to thank you all for the good wishes you sent my way during my short, unplanned absence. I am back to full health (well, okay maybe not full but I'm pretty much there... heh heh) and updates should continue to just be the normal amount of delayed ^-^. Thank you all so much for being the best readers an author could have and I'll see you all in the next one!
**EXTRA** This has been an idea I've been tossing around for a while now but I'm still not 100% sure about it, so that's why I would like to hear your opinions on it.
I've been considering writing a book that focuses mainly on theories regarding Danny Phantom. Ever since I got into writing these books it has made me think more and more about the DP universe and how things work. Sure, Butch himself has cleared a few things up but I've noticed that there are a few holes in what he tells us. Not to mention I've always been a little obsessed with explaining the 'science' behind these types of universes. Plus there are fan theories and such, and I would be open to taking requests on what people would like explained about Danny's universe.
It's just a thought. Would anyone be interested in reading it?
