Hunger
Hunger is a sensation that we all have felt. Every being has felt an emptiness inside of them at one time or another and every being has the need to consume, the urge to fill that emptiness. It is that emptiness that causes us to act, that void that wills us to fill that hole. It is in our very nature to act on the subtle instinct, our very essence to play into such a small desire. An inclination so acute and specific, and yet determines our actions for days to come. It keeps a balance in our lives and in nature making sure that one force does not overcome another.
Hunger is the driving force behind all endeavors and precedes all great outcomes. Our early ancestors hungered. They hungered for food and so they hunted, they gathered, and they ate and were satisfied. That satisfaction was delusion though, a screen of their ignorance. Today we are never satisfied by the simplest of means. We hunger for knowledge so we learn. Hunger for adventure so we explore. Hunger for success so we build empires and dynasties. Hunger for fame so we flaunt our best qualities and talents so people scream our names. Hunger for excitement, hunger for love, hunger for meaning, hunger for purpose. It is this hunger that drives us to evolve, to become better than what we were before. Such as in nature, where beasts adapt and find new ways to hunt for their food, to quench the hunger that follows them. No greater satisfaction can come from fulfilling one's hunger.
Of course, there can come a time where one's hunger can turn them to do unbecoming things. Where a person's hunger manifests into undesirable traits. When hunger becomes greed, lust, a bitter need for revenge. In these times one can lose their sense of self-control and their hunger may start to consume them. This possibility is in every person. Inside there is a hunger for things that are fine and right and good, and then a hunger for things that are vile. Each one is present and is in a constant war with one another, they are like two wolves in every person, battling each other for dominance, and the one that will come out victorious is the one the person chooses in which to feed.
Hunger is within all of us. It is not compass telling us right from wrong but a stick constantly prodding us, provoking us to move forward. It creates a cycle that, keeps this world spinning so to speak. It creates an unceasing cycle, where we can feed this hunger to complacency, and yet we know that eventually, it will come again, propelling us to feed it once more. It is a reoccurring itch that we must scratch, the monkey on our back we will never get rid of. Hunger drives every living thing on this earth. To feel hunger is to be alive and to fulfill that hunger is to live.
