Chapter 1
An opportunist.
A dynamo.
A hard-worker.
All three of those words couldn't be used to describe Kim Hyejin at all.
The twenty year old university student was in fact, lazy.
So lazy that she chose to major in the subject she thought was mediocre in, to escape the tedious path of a doctor, lawyer, anything else that required too much work.
In her definition, art would definitely be easy and she wouldn't need to do much for credit. However, unlike her expectations, her first year she was taught a crucial lesson when the subject required much work: don't be prejudiced.
The constant assignments and stress actually made her, a student who didn't really feel anything towards the subject, grow somewhat fond of it? As a lazy extraordinaire, she wouldn't downright admit anything that could potentially lead to more work, but over the course of the year, she found herself liking art as it allowed for expressionism.
Actually, even her professors were amazed at the talent she displayed but played off to be an average student.
No, she wasn't like those cliché heroines who tried to stay low-key in order to hide a super big secret.
For Hyejin, staying average was the product of a lack of motivation to push herself.
Her laziness actually stopped the university student from bothering with anything like parties, activities, meeting with friends—that she didn't care enough to make—which essentially, made her a loner. On the contrary, the word loner was mostly used for a negative connotation. Yet for Hyejin, she actually didn't mind.
Solitude wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
Hyejin was naturally a sweet girl, but even to her family, at family reunions, she wouldn't really be described as a wallflower, nor could she be described as unapproachable... she would be chilling and not making any attempts for attention nor be an unforgettable presence.
Of course she stays in touch with her family, but only rarely visits for the holidays by the demand of her parents. The university she attended was in Seoul, hours away from where her parents lived. To travel constantly between the two was such a hassle for the idle girl, but even she couldn't avoid visiting on the holidays.
Other than that, during the school year, she would attend class then go back to the comfort of her small apartment.
For Hyejin, staying lazy meant not doing work, but that didn't mean staying bored.
So, in the brief periods of break she would get from the tiresome assignments, Hyejin would alternate between sleep, movies, games... and reading?
A hobby that was picked in the spur of the moment, she never expected that the pretty covers would lead down a road of obsession.
Although Hyejin read books, she didn't really read any of those sappy romance novels and preferred the novels with the male main characters who were reborn or grew powerful with foresight, thanks to their transmigrations or reincarnations. Occasionally, she did read female main character novels that were romance orientated to laugh at the cynical love the two leads harbored for each other, though very rarely, she did find good female lead novels too.
How would she know if the novel was good or not prior?
She didn't.
Hyejin never bothered to click reviews and just read the description. As look as it was somewhat interesting, she would give it a chance and binge it.
That was the case for the novel, Vyriana's Vendetta.
As usual for the korean-western historical novels, the female lead had an unusual name that Hyejin didn't know was the norm for westerners and it was filled with fantasy elements. The novel featured Princess Vyriana, the escaping royal from the coup d'etat of the tyrant, Duke Klasius, who overtook two years after the death of King Redian. During the span of six years, she made powerful connections and returned with a vendetta to avenge her beloved mother, Queen Asielle.
There were six love interests in total and they were the cream of the crop.
Yes, six.
It was like the author couldn't decide which powerful man to add, so she added them all. One of the love interests was a dragon.
A fucking dragon.
Yet nonetheless, Hyejin finished the novel because the idea of a revenge intended for a mother was pretty nice, up until the author messed up the entire plotline by going down a very Mary Sue route. Yes she managed to get her kingdom back, but her fights were very weak. It was like the author decided to suddenly decrease the IQ of Duke Klasius in order for the heroine to win.
Damn, why did they have to downgrade the poor guy like that?
She didn't harbor any special attachments for the character, but simply pitied the man.
Someone with the mindset of taking over an entire kingdom, Duke Klasius was described to have somewhat sociopathic tendencies but prior to the takeover, he was a wolf in sheep clothing. He could easily manipulate but lost in a battle of wits?
Hyejin couldn't believe it.
So, she spent some more time to read all the side stories available, hoping that the author had fixed the characters' manners or given them some intelligence that they were robbed of. However, she was met with disappointment as the side stories focused on the minor characters and were just as annoying as the main story.
And just to prove how disappointed she was, Hyejin actually pushed aside her lazy tendencies and sat down in front of her PC, starting an email to the author.
This was something completely out of the norm for Hyejin. Usually, she would just laugh sardonically and move on. But this time, she decided to move out of her comfort zone and try to question why the author decided to make the characters brainless. She had read plenty of these novels, but as Vyriana's Vendetta was the latest one, she decided to do something about it.
For Hyejin, this would be the first and probably last time to put an effort.
And so, she began typing away her frustrations and her desire for a comedic response on how the author would salvage the novel.
Dear GlamorousByeol1230,
I recently purchased your novel from Kak*opage and have a couple of questions.
Your novel, Vyriana's Vendetta was a great idea and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the female lead driven by the passion of avenging her mother... however, I couldn't help but get confused on why Vyriana turned from a motivated girl that focused on her revenge for her mother into someone who was too busy to worry about her hairstyle in front of the love interests? ㅋㅋㅋ
And Duke Klasius, he was such an intelligent character, easily manipulating everyone and always having the upper hand, turn into someone who couldn't see the foolish trap laid by an absentminded teenager ㅠㅠ
These are just a few of many questions I have, but please clarify ㅠㅠ

Clicking send, Hyejin felt immensely proud of herself for actually taking action. Perhaps, this would be a new start of leaving her idle life to take more action in her life.

A couple of days later, Hyejin had completely forgotten about sending that email and was playing games on her PC when she saw a little notification at the corner of her screen. It seemed like the author of the novel had decided to make a post, not just reply to her email. Somewhat enthusiastically, Hyejin clicked on the announcement and her eyes widened when she realized that the author had screenshotted her email and posted it with the caption, "?"
Instead of answering her questions, the author had done such a thing to avoid them.
Hyejin raised an eyebrow and skimmed through the comments, who were cheering on the author and telling her to ignore the hater. Stifling a laugh, Hyejin knew that the twelve year olds were going to invade her messages very soon for insulting their beloved author.
She reached out for her bag of chips and felt empty air in the bag. Hyejin grabbed the bag and tilted it downward, sighing when she realized that she was out of snacks. The supermarket was fifteen minutes away and closed in thirty minutes, plus she had to sleep since she had class early morning.
Nonetheless, Hyejin decided to get some snacks since she was sure that after what the author did, things would be very interesting.
She dressed quickly and jogged to the supermarket, filling her bag with an abundance of snacks to relish soon.
On her way back, Hyejin sighed at the idea of making a new account. It would take too much effort to create a brand new account all because there would always be weirdos on her ass for a simple email.
All because I took action to defend the intelligence of the characters. This is proof that change isn't good. Besides, I've read plenty of shitty books. Didn't think this would be any different.
At least I had a good laugh...
Hyejin, lost in her thoughts, didn't notice the speeding car in her direction. By the time she realized the bright light and heard the vehicle horn, it was too late.
She and the car collided, and she was lying flat on the ground, blood spluttered everywhere. The person inside of the car had immediately come out but her vision was too blurry to see who they were and what they looked like.
Am I dying?
Hyejin closed her eyes and the ringing in her ears stopped as she felt herself drifting away from consciousness.
I hope the afterlife wouldn't make me work too hard.

I actually meant to publish this next week, but I've stocked up enough to push for a two chapter release! Most importantly, I was really excited to share this with you guys. Updates will be every Saturday until I stockpile more and I'll try to make it 2x per week.
