Sonic was out for an hour or so, but he didn't know that.
He found himself staring at a world he didn't recognize. Tall obelisks and pillars covered in ivy and moss, crumbled buildings set in a C-shape, with a well in the middle. Towers with lookout points nestled at their peaks.

He recognized these places somehow, had he run by it once?

Suddenly his dream was over, the images replaced by the ceiling of Tails' workshop. "Ugh...I did it again, didn't I?" He asked.

"If you mean fainting," Tails replied. "Then yes...you okay?"

Sonic sat up. "Yeah... it all happened so fast, I..."

Tails put his hand on Sonic's shoulder. "You wanna talk about it?"

"...I was looking in the mirror, and suddenly it wasn't me anymore, it was someone else looking at me." He looked at Tails.
"He told me to run, then this other guy shows up and tries to take my head off with a sword! I just ran all over town, trying to confuse him, then came here."

"You didn't fight back?"

"It's not like I was armed, Tails!" He sighed. "What scares me is that I think the creep was after the guy in my mirror."

He's after both of us, Sonic...

There was that voice again, in his head. "I can hear his voice in my head...! I'm going crazy!"

Let me explain, Sonic! Please...

Sonic put his hands to his head. "Who are you? Are you a ghost?"

No...I'm an energy entity. I've been in your heart this whole time, regaining my strength.

Sonic moved his hands to his chest, watching as it glowed with a blue light. His heart raced as he realized he'd been sharing his body with someone else all this time. "Tails...!" He whispered.

Don't panic! I'm not going to hurt you, Sonic. I wanna help.

"Help!? It's probably your fault that guy wants my head!"

Find a mirror, Sonic. Please.

Sonic sighed. "...Tails, I need a mirror."

Tails looked skeptical, but he nodded and soon came back with a hand mirror.
Sonic took it then shivered as the hedgehog reappeared in the reflection. "Whoa!" Tails exclaimed. "You weren't kidding...!"

"Listen to me closely. My name is Autumn Wind. This form is that of my previous keeper. He died in 2450 at the hands of that knight you saw."

"2450...?" Tails shook his head. "That was almost 1300 years ago!"

"1276 years, to be exact. I've been searching for a worthy keeper since then, and I found you, Sonic."

"Why me? How am I worthy?"

"You are dedicated to protecting the world from evil, no matter what. You are a hero." Wind leaned closer. "I need your help, Sonic..."

"The guy that attacked me...us. What does he want?"

"He works for Lord Dominus, the enemy of our queen, Hope. He wants you dead and us Amethysts scattered to the winds again."

"Us? There are more of you?" Tails asked.

Wind nodded. "There are 20 of us."

Sonic shook his head. "Twenty...!? How am I supposed to find that many?"

"You'll have help. Don't give up, Sonic. I'll always here to help if you need it. Starting with your powers."

Sonic looked at Tails. "I told you I had new powers!"

Wind chuckled. "That's right. The power over wind is my blessing..." He suddenly turned in the reflection. "We're losing time. The Obsidian soldier will be here any minute."

Sonic gripped the mirror. "What do we do?"

"Lure him out of town, I'll help you lose them."

"Sonic, be careful." Tails warned.

Sonic nodded. "And I won't pass out again."
He grinned then hurried out, running until he saw his attacker. "Hey! You lookin' for me!?" He called.

The soldier growled. "You're not gonna last the day, kid!"

Sonic took off towards the edge of town, slowing enough to let the soldier keep his eyes on him. "Okay Wind, what's the plan?"

Use his weakness against him.

"Which is?"

All Obsidians are restricted to the ground. The key is to get airborne.

Sonic led the knight out to an open area, his muscles tensing as he thought over Wind's instruction. Airborne? How do I do that?

He didn't have much time to think it over, because the knight was coming like a torpedo. Sonic backed up, then jumped up, kicking the knight's back and knocking his opponent to the ground. "Come on, don't you think that armor's a bit much?"

The knight growled, spitting grass from his mouth. "You'll regret that, punk!" He swung at Sonic, but the hedgehog dodged, flipping back onto his feet again. "Hold still!"

"Yeah, no." Sonic smirked.

He's getting angry. Good. Now pretend you're shoving something forward!

Sonic did so, and a gust of air shot from his hands and knocked the knight back. "...cool!"

Don't get too excited!

Sonic bent down to duck under his adversary's sword, then spun, hands out. The air responded, forming a tornado that he sent at the knight. The knight dodged, but landed clumsily. "Some knight you are!"

"No fair! His lordship said you weren't trained!"

"Well he was wrong!"
Actually, Sonic was just going on a whim here, not sure what all he could do with his powers, but he wasn't gonna tell him that.

"Hmph! No matter, I killed the last one, I'll kill you too!"

Sonic shuddered, but he let it pass. "Wow, you're old! Shouldn't you be retiring and putting your little knife there away?"

"SHUT UP!" The knight screamed, and Sonic was able to dodge his swing, punching his helmet off.

"What the...you're just a squirt!"

It was true, he didn't look any older than Tails.

The knight growled. "My body might be a child, but my mind is as sharp as ever!"

Sonic managed to get out of his shock before he was impaled by the blade. "Your mommy must be worried!"

"Shut up, you maggot!"

Sonic yelped as the blade clipped his cheek, reaching up to bring back blood on his fingertips.

My turn!

Wind suddenly took over control of Sonic's body, and Sonic could only watch as he twisted, dove and fired bolts of air at the knight before slamming his fist down on the knight's head.

The knight crumpled, and Sonic regained control. "Whoa...you're good."

I've had lots of practice...

Suddenly the knight vanished, like he was nothing but a puff of smoke. "Where'd he go?"

Back to his master... we haven't seen the last of him. Let's get back to town.

Sonic nodded, feeling like he could really use a nap.
