Extraordinary Attorney Woo

I wasn't a k-drama fan until my cousin convinced me to watch "Crash Landing on You" (that's a story for another article). However, today, I can only admire South Korean productions and Tv series.

Last month, I watched the trailer of this new show, and I was pleasantly surprised. The autism spectrum disorder hasn't been given enough spotlight by filmmakers or producers around the world. So, imagine my joy when I saw that the protagonist is a 27-year-old, female attorney with autism spectrum disorder: Woo Young-woo.

The first 6 episodes have aired on Netflix (as of July 20, 2022) and according to Wikipedia, the first season will consist of 16 episodes.

AStory announced that the series will be adapted into a webtoon of the same name and it has been reported that a US remake is currently in discussion.

So, what makes this show so special aside from the extraordinary protagonist?

1) The special relationship with her father.

He's a single father who had a hard life raising a child that seemed so different to others, and yet he didn't know how to get close to her. However, over the years, he's adapted and despite his loneliness, he is so proud and supportive of his daughter.

2) Woo's best friend and their special greeting.

Her best friend is always there to support and protect her. It's so refreshing to see a true friendship, shaped and raised through difficulties and differences, yet so pure and wholesome. As for their special greeting, the only hint I'm going to give is: Woo to the Young to the Woo (Head over to Youtube or just watch the show).

3) The law cases in each episode.

I love seeing how each team member helps to solve the case. There's a nice backstory, and the clients are always treated with respect.

4) Woo's love for whales.

I never thought that I would fall in love with whales, but here we are.

5) Park Eun-bin's acting (all the cast is doing fantastic work).

6) Kang Tae-oh's smile (Yup, that's a valid reason).

7) The mystery behind Woo's birth mother.

8) Because it's such a lighthearted show but at the same time, it makes you think and consider how you treat and perceive others. It's not just about people with the autism spectrum disorder but all people who act differently than ourselves. Judging won't get us far, but understanding and respecting them might earn us a new friend.

If you still aren't convinced, just watch the first episode. You can thank me later ;)
