Mr. Goodpine and Mr. Diaz
//Your POV//
We pulled into the driveway of a cozy looking house painted white.
Max led me to the door that led straight to the basement.
"Let's just gonna go straight down there since my dad will probably be on my ass for what happened here," He said as he pointed to his bruised face, "And he won't shut up if he sees you."
"He..doesn't like it when you bring people over?" I asked, concerned.
"No, in fact he tells me to bring Nikki and Neil over, but I don't wanna hear everytime, 'oH HEY MAX! WHO'S YOUR FRIEND?!' when he already knows who they are! I can't imagine how annoying he'd be with you!"
I didn't really say anything.
In fact I wasn't even looking at him, nah.
Instead, I was looking at the red head standing y'all above him, looking like fucking tree while we both just sat on the couch.
"I didn't know you felt that way, Max."
I legit felt bad for this guy, even a little second hand embarrassment.
"Jesus! Dad, you ever learned not to eavesdrop??" Max hissed.
"I'm sorry, I'll leave you guys alone," His Dad trudged back upstairs.
I looked at Max as his dad closed the door causing him to utter, "what?"
"You could've been a little nicer to him, he's your dad after all."
"Y/n, it's a little obvious he's not my actual dad."
"Who the hell cares? Who still takes care of you, feeds you, pays your phone bill?" I asked.
"..Him."
"Then go apologize. If I talked to my parents like that, I'd be grounded for a month."
"...Fine, but you're coming with me," He grabbed my hand and pulled me up the stairs with him.
"Okay."
We walked into the kitchen where Max's dad was making dinner.
"Dad?"
"Yeah, Max?" He turned around.
"I'm sorry for being..rude."
"It's alright Max, I know I'm overbearing. I'll try to give you some space," The Dad smiled.
"Thanks, Dad," Max smiled a little bit.
"So, are you going to at least introduce me to your friend here?" His Dad faced me.
"Dad, this is Y/n, Y/n this is my dad."
"Nice to meet you Mr...?" And that's when I realized that I didn't know Max's last name.
"Goodpine, but please call me David," He shook my hand, "Nice to meet you too."
"Well, we're gonna head back downstairs, see you later, dad," Max said, starting to pull me back to the basement door since he was still holding my hand.
"Alrighty! Y/n, you should know you're free to stay for dinner, if you want."
"Thank you, but I gotta be home for 6, I'd love to another time though," I smiled.
I swear having manners is a gift sometimes, letting good people have respect and the bitchy people get sarcasm.
David was very nice so I wasn't bullshitting at all here.
When we finally sat back down on the couch downstairs, I said, "You're dad is really nice."
"Yeah, he is."
"Why didn't you tell me your last name, Mr. Goodpine?"
"Diaz, actually."
"Huh?"
"My birth name was Diaz. David adopted me."
"..oh. I'm sorry."
"I mean, it was a little obvious, I even said it a couple paragraphs before."
"I know, I just didn't really, think about it? Again, I'm sorry."
"Hey, stop apologizing when you have no reason to. It's fine anyways, I'm better here than where I was before."
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
"I'll..tell you later. Wanna watch TV?"
"Oh, okay."
