Hanging Out

//Your POV//

"Ughhhhh...." I grumbled, pulling my sheets over my face to shield myself from the sun.

My stomach, begged for food, while my tired body protested and demanded to stay in bed.

I looked over to my phone on my nightstand, 3 unanswered messages waiting for me.

They were from Max.

-morning nerd girl
-you're probably not up yet, that's fine
-just wondering if you want to hang out today

"No fucking way.."

Max wanted to hang out with me.

I hastily texted him back.

-I'd like to hang out but last night my parents told me I'm grounded :(

After a couple minutes, he texted me back.

-then sneak out

-you're kidding right?

-nope

-the only place I know my mom will let me go is the library and I know that's probably not your thing.

I sighed, realizing I probably just made a fool of myself.

Until...

-nah we can meet up there

-oh okay

-see you there, tiny

"Tiny? That's new," I giggled at the nickname.

After I got dressed and ate, I casually walked up to my mom, "Hey, ma? Can you drive me to the library?"

"You know you're grounded, right?" She raised an eyebrow.

"I know, I just want to study. You know how Mrs. Garrison is with her pop quizzes.." I rubbed my arm.

It was hard to lie, I never lied.

Especially to my scary mom.

She wasn't cruel, just strict and a bit intimidating, but she still loves me.

"..Let me get my keys," She caved in, sighing.

"Thanks mom."

Later

"I'll pick you up at 6."

"Actually, I can walk, mom."

"You're not gonna go to another party, right?"

"Trust me, I never want to do that again," I chuckled.

"Alright. Love you, sweetie."

"Love you too, mom. See you in a couple hours."

And she drove away, letting me walk inside the lobby of the library to find Max leaning against the wall.

"Hey girly."

"Hi. I got my mom to let me walk home."

"Nice," He started walking, so I followed.

"Where do you wanna go?" I asked him.

"Well, I thought we could go get some lunch, and maybe just chill at my place for a bit."

I nodded, "Oh, alright."

As we walked, he must've noticed me looking to the ground, "Is something wrong?"

"I'm just..not used to this. I honestly don't get why someone like you wants to hang out with someone as pathetic as me."

"Hm. I don't think you're pathetic, just a bit more isolated. I liked hanging out with you last night since, well, you're not fake. I like that about you, Y/n."

"And you call yourself an asshole.." I blushed at his comment, "Thanks."

"Oh?~ Is Little Y/n flustered by me?" Max smirked.

"Never mind. You're a dick."

"A big one at that."

I gave him a weak punch at the comment, causibg him to snicker, "Is that the best you can do?"

I huffed at his taunt, crossing my arms, "whatever."

He laughed at my annoyance letting me lighten up a bit.

Max led me to a car, a red pickup truck.

"I like your car," I told him as I climbed into the passenger seat.

"Thanks."

After we drove for a little bit, "You're lucky, you know. I don't really hang out with people unless they're Nikki or Neil."

"Oh..I'm honored," I smiled sarcastically.

"I'm serious. I've known them since I was ten years old. I don't really make new friends."

"Then you guys must be really close."

"Yeah. We used to get in all sorts of trouble. Things have changed though. Neil wants to get in this spiffy ass college so he wants to keep his high school record clean and since Nikki is on the football, soccer, lacrosse, basically any sport team you can think of, she doesn't get into a lot of trouble so she doesn't get kicked off."

"So you're the one who stills has bad behavior, I assume?" I raised an eyebrow.

"You know it, girly."

We soon pulled up to a small, crummy looking diner.

Max must've noticed my displeasure when he said, "I know it doesn't look like much, but the nachos here are fire."

"Alright," I nodded as I followed him out of the car.

I realized how much he towered over me, despite only being one year older than me.

No wonder he called me things like tiny.

As we walked in, the smell of grease hit me like a train.

We took our seats in a booth, sitting across from each other.

For a drink I only ordered water, while Max ordered a soda.

We also ended up just ordering nachos since we both weren't that hungry.

"So...What's good?" He asked me.

"Um...I dunno. I guess I'm just really tired from last night??" I shrugged.

"That was your first high school party, huh? They have that effect on newbies like you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Don't get all pissy on me, I just meant that it's just not your thing," Max rolled his eyes.

I began to feel bad for snapping at him, "..sorry."

"For what? You didn't do shit."

"I shouldn't have been snippy like that," I explained, "I guess I just wish I was cool...like you."

Max was silent for a second, not really knowing what to say.

"Y/n, I'm anything but cool."

"Ha, that's a lie."

"I mean it. I'm just a guy that skips class and gets stoned in his basement all day. Sure, I get in a couple fights from time to time, and get suspended, but once I come back it's just a repeating cycle," He ranted, "That isn't cool, it's just being a loser."

I was stunned at the way he thought of himself.

And here I was thinking he was confident.

"Well..if you think you're a loser, than we can be losers together...?" I smiled.

"...yeah, you're pretty fun, so I'd like that."

"No, I'm not."

"You're pretty fun to tease, little one."

"Why do you keep calling me things like that, anyways?"

"Well, you're small, and...I like being in control~"
