Chapter 37
Jack's POV
I woke up with a massive headache. What happened? Where am I? What's going on? I turned to the left and saw Sandy fast asleep on a chair.
I didn't want to get up just yet. What happened last night? I tried to recall. Let's see, the last thing I remember was seeing Elsa... and I think I blacked out since then. Yes, now I remember everything, the voices in my head, me backing away from Elsa, me losing control of myself.
I checked myself and found some of Sandy's sand swirling around me. Another question popped out, what happened when I was knocked out?
I experienced way too many nightmares during my sleep, I remember every single one of them, they sent shivers to me. Like, I have nightmares every now and then, but never this many in one night. Which got me wondering whether Sandy's sand that was around me even helped in giving me dreams instead of nightmares. Perhaps it did help, just late.
In fact, I'm even doubting that I had any sleep. I had one heck of a battle with all the nightmares, I was greatly outnumbered, I needed help, curse you Pitch! It's like I was awake on the inside. So this is Pitch's idea of revenge, huh? And this is obviously just the beginning, we better defeat him before he makes me nuts.
I feel much better now, the voices in my head aren't killing me. Still haven't solved the mystery on why my feelings multiplied that much though. Hmm, maybe Sandy knows.
I stretched myself and sat up. A slight creaking sound woke Sandy up. He looked really tired, but the minute he saw me, he jumped out of his seat, cheering silently. Pom pom's appeared and he waved them about.
"Good morning buddy." I smiled, my head still aching. "So, what's new?"
The door creaked open, revealing Bunny. "Hey mate, good to see you up and well."
I waved at him and smiled. Behind Bunny was North. They then explained my condition.
"Dark magic?" I asked in surprise.
"Yup." North said, popping the p. "Although it kinda settled down right now, Sandy said it will come back. You need to take care of yourself."
"What type of dark magic? From who? How did I get it?" I asked, thinking back about the nightmares I had. Pitch? Did he not only give me nightmares? Did he give me something else?
"We don't know. Sandy figured it was probably just a side effect from entering Alternia." Bunny replied.
Ok, that sounds more reassuring. So it's just me thinking way too much again.
All four of us walked out and saw the rest were up as well. All of them greeted me and was happy that I was well. I looked at Elsa, she had the widest smile.
So we didn't have any plans for the day yet, most of us were still solving the riddle. None of us could figure out what represented Burgess. Seriously, what is it?!
"Some eggs?" Bunny asked.
"Snow globes?" North asked.
"Quit asking, it's not like I know the answer!" I snapped.
Elsa walked over to us. "Jack? Can I speak to you, in private?"
"Yes?" I got up and followed her, am I in trouble? Gosh I hope I didn't do anything that upset her. "So, what is it?"
"It's about yesterday..." Elsa trailed away.
"What about it? I'm sorry if I freaked you out too much went I fainted." I said, sounding more stupid. Jack, stop making yourself look like a fool.
"No, no, it's not about that." Elsa let a chuckle slip. "It's... Yesterday, did you do anything when you passed out?"
"What?" I asked, confused. "I passed out, what could I have done?"
"I might sound crazy, but last night I heard a voice inside my head, a voice calling for help. It sounded like you." Elsa explained.
"Me?" I asked. I didn't do anything like that, at least, I don't remember. Besides, how could I possibly talk to someone in their mind?
"He said stuff like, I'm outnumbered, there's too many of them, help me! He even said my name. The voice sounded like yours, and only I could hear it." Elsa continued.
A flashback struck me, I remember having a nightmare where Pitch's darklings were attacking me, I was greatly outnumbered. They were tearing me apart, I was calling for help. But, how did I manage to reach out to Elsa? Or rather, how did she reach me? I even said her name? That, I don't remember.
"I... I think I know what you're talking about, mostly." I gulped. "You can read my mind?"
"Uh, no Jack." Elsa shook her head.
"Try saying something in your mind and I'll do the same." I instructed, this is one weird and crazy experiment we're doing.
Testing, testing, this is Jack Frost, you hearing me Elsa?
I looked at Elsa but didn't hear anything, she didn't look like she heard anything either.
"I don't hear anything." Both of us said at the same time.
"Well, that didn't work out the way I expected." I placed my hands on my hips. "I thought maybe I had a hidden talent, mind reading!"
"But, I don't understand... Last night..." Elsa said.
I placed a hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring smile. "Elsa, you probably thought too much. I was told that you stayed up late watching over me, thank you for that. You didn't get enough rest, maybe that's why you were hearing things." I said, feeling my cheeks heating up just touching her shoulder.
"I suppose so. I was just so worried about you, not only me, all of us. Sandy, Tooth, Rapunzel and I were by your side." Elsa said.
"And I can't thank you enough for that." I continued.
"Well, friends should look after each other, shouldn't they?" Elsa smiled.
But are we more than friends? Can we be more than that? I wondered. All I did was nod and smile back.
*Time skip*
"Jack... Jack? Jack..."
I looked around, startled to hear that voice. It sounded like... My sister.
"Jack? Jack..."
It sounded exactly the same, back when her voice led me to Pitch's lair. Why can I hear her voice?
Then it struck me. What if she's here? Nonsense Jack, she couldn't be alive anymore, it's been 300 years. But... What if she really IS here? No, that can't be true. The gateway popped out of nowhere just recently. What if it appeared earlier at some point of time? What if my sister crossed it? What if time isn't the same as back home? Too many what ifs!
"Jack? Jack?"
I kept hearing her voice, I wasted no time, I followed it. I went from a room to the kitchen, to the washroom, to behind the stage, to the back door. It didn't sound like I was getting nearer to the voice, nor was I getting further.
I opened the door and got the shock of my life. Long brown hair, brown eyes, she in a brown and red dress...
MY SISTER.
My sister... Is standing... Right in front of me... Am I seeing what I'm seeing right now?
"Jack?" She asked.
I breathed heavily, my eyes blinking non stop, looking at her. I had no idea why, but tears flowed down my face, I exhaled in disbelief and I shivered.
I slowly reached out my hand to touch her. My hand went right through her. She looked at me, the sorrow in her eyes, looking at my hand.
"No... No!" I shook my head, she slowly faded away into nothing. "Don't leave me!"
I broke down into tears. Her voice kept ringing in my mind. My feelings were multiplying again.
"Well well, what do we have here?" I looked up and saw Pitch.
My eyes widen as I clumsily stood up and pointed my staff at him. "Wh-What are you do-doing here?" I stammered.
"You're weak, Frost. Look at you, crying? Seriously?" Pitch mocked.
"You did this to me, didn't you?!" I asked. "You're the cause for all of this!"
"Indeed. It brought me such joy seeing that scene just now. To see your hopes crushed when you saw your dear sister, when you couldn't touch her." Pitch smirked.
With every word he said, my head got more painful, I can't control my feelings. Stop, stop! Stop intensifying!
"Oh, but it won't!" Pitch laughed. "All it took was some of your worst fears to conjure it up. I haven't even gotten to what you fear the most."
"Stop it!" I fired a blast of ice at him.
Pitch deflected it and placed both hands on my shoulders. I felt them burning as his black sand started surrounding me.
"AHHHHHH! What are you doing to me?!" I yelled, trying to get free. "I'm telling you, when the rest-"
"Ah, but it'll already be too late by then. You, Jack Frost, are mine now. You're too late to do anything." Pitch cut me off.
Third Person POV
Jack couldn't control himself as he breathed Pitch's sand, which a part of it had turned into dust, deeply into his lungs. He coughed like he was choking on poisonous gas, and his eyes watered like he had been hit with pepper spray. His worst fears surfaced and became nightmares as he came in more contact with Pitch's sand.
"What have you done to me?!" Jack cried.
"I've enhanced you." Pitch said with a wicked smile.
Jack collapsed on the floor and tried to recuperate, but he couldn't catch his breath or stop crying. He aimed a kick at Pitch but missed. Pitch stared down at Jack, like a vulture waiting for its prey to die.
"That's it, let it sink in, let it course through your veins, let it consume you..." Pitch said.
Jack tried more than ever to fight the magic manipulating his emotions. The nightmares were tormenting him, he felt like his body was on fire, and he couldn't do anything.
Finally, Pitch's sand had surrounded all of Jack. Jack felt very weak and could barely hold on. His breathing slowed down, everything became a blur. He slowly closed his eyes and with no more energy at all, his staff slipped out of his grasp. It was all quiet.
"I have you now, Jack Frost." Pitch said with a menacing laugh.
