Chapter 24
Olaf's POV
After I managed to escape, I couldn't find my way out of this place! It was like a maze, I don't even know where I would end up once I get out. Is this underground? Is this a building? Or is this in the sky?!
It was so quiet, so eerie, I was terrified. "Elsa... Anna... Kristoff..." I whispered to myself, praying that I would see them as soon as possible.
Things weren't going well as I kept melting every now and then. I can't feel my legs, I can't feel my legs!
Merida's POV
So we followed Hiro's tracking device, it was leading us to Alternia High School. How ironic that The Nightmares decide to keep their prisoners there. The problem now is, how are we gonna go in undetected?
"We're gonna get caught." I had to remind them.
"How about we just go in?" Wasabi asked, pointing to the rest of Big Hero 6. "They know who we are already, there's nothing to hide."
"I'd rather go in with you guys, the longer we wait the higher the risk they could be in serious danger. I'm willing to take the risk of being seen by The Nightmares. We have to confront them sooner or later anyway." Elsa said.
"No Elsa, let them handle it." Hiccup put his hand on Elsa's shoulder. "You are already on the verge of losing your powers completely. We can't risk losing you either."
"But they're in danger! I'll never forgive myself if I didn't do anything to save him." Elsa protested.
"Him?" Anna asked with a raised brow, also trying to hide her smile.
"Sorry, them. The Guardians and Olaf." Elsa made the correction.
"I support Elsa." Rapunzel took a step forward. "We're in this together."
"And, I'm pretty sure that The Nightmares are aware of another presence, us, ever since they captured Jack. Remember? It's not just one group that crosses the gateway, there are others as well." Kristoff added.
"Since they already know there's someone else, it'll be quite easy to guess who it is. There's only five of them left anyway." Anna said.
"I agree." I nodded. "Come on Hiccup, you need to understand the situation."
"Well... I suppose it's a risk worth taking." Hiccup finally said.
"After we regroup, we can straight away go to the library to activate the book!" Rapunzel reminded. "We'll just need to find Aidan, hopefully it won't be too hard."
Hiro's tracking device suddenly beeped loudly and the whole screen went black.
"What in the world?" Hiro looked at it in confusion.
"Did you forget to change the batteries or something?" Fred asked.
"I just charged it today!" Hiro replied.
"The system must have crashed." GoGo suggested.
"Maybe you blew a fuse." Honey Lemon added.
"Let me look at it-" Wasabi didn't finish because the device suddenly worked again. But it wasn't tracking anything, our one way to saving them was now gone. There was only the map on the screen.
"It's The Nightmares' magic. It's messing with the device. There's a weird energy around here, it's jamming the sensor." Hiro concluded.
"Does that mean... They know where we are right now?" Elsa asked with a gulp.
"Oh dear, we better get going." Anna said.
"But with the device unable to track, how will we know where to go?" I asked.
"We'll have to split up, we'll find your friends faster. We can't waste time if the gang know our location. Look around the school, any secret passages or whatsoever." GoGo replied.
"Everyone get into groups of three. One of them will have four." Hiro instructed.
We did as we were told. I straight away partnered up with Hiccup first, although I think he was headed to Elsa but she had Anna and Kristoff already. Honey Lemon then joined us.
"Let's get going, we need to find the Guardians and Olaf quick." Anna declared and we went our separate ways. Honey Lemon, Hiccup and I went around the school and found the back door. After we were sure that they weren't any other students lingering in the hallway, we sneaked in.
Anna's POV
I remember back when I was a kid, I read some detective books, they would check the walls for secret buttons, and that's exactly what I did. I felt the wall for anything.
"What if we have to go into a classroom to find them?" Elsa asked.
I haven't thought of that. If we do so, it'll alert everyone of our presence. I prayed as hard as I could that we didn't have to go into a classroom.
"That doesn't make any sense." Kristoff said. "Why in the world would they be in a classroom?!"
I couldn't help but smile when I looked at Elsa. Poor girl's so worried about Jack that she's making her crush on Jack so obvious. My smile faded when another couple streaks of her hair turned brown. At least this time she doesn't feel the pain. Elsa's gonna be mom's twin soon if this continues.
A banging sound was heard when we passed by the lockers. I braced myself for the worst as I thought The Nightmares had found us. One of the lockers flung open. It was Olaf!
"Olaf!" All of us exclaimed.
"Daylight!" He screamed in joy. "Oh how I missed you."
"Where have you been? How did you escape? Did The Nightmares hold you captive? Are the Guardians with you?" Elsa let her questions pour out.
"Easy, easy, let a snowman be!" Olaf puffed. "So, The Nightmares did hold us as prisoners. I was the only one who managed to slip out of the chains that held us. Thank goodness they didn't notice me gone. Come, quick! We gotta rescue the rest. They can't hold out much longer."
"What's down there?" I asked. "We ought to get the rest first."
"Who cares! They're in danger!" Elsa snapped and jumped straight down into the hole that Olaf came out from. I have never seen Elsa so reckless. All of this, because of a boy she loves.
"Looks like we're on our own for this." Kristoff said and followed Elsa.
"We'll need a guide, come on Olaf." I sighed and jumped down.
It was pitch black inside. We landed on something hard.
"Careful! Don't destroy the switch or we'll never make out way back up!" Olaf yelled. "It's somewhere among the walls, just be careful."
I felt around with my hands, just hoping I could feel something. It's all a wonder to me on how Olaf managed to get out of here given the dark surroundings. Perhaps it was pure luck. Then, that makes it all worse. If it was luck, what are the chances of us finding the Guardians?
A blue spiral flew out of Elsa's hand, giving us some light. Other than two walls on the left and right, I really don't see how are we going to navigate. Just keep going straight until we find somewhere to turn? I asked myself.
"That's odd. I don't remember it being like this. I made a sharp left turn and I discovered the switch." Olaf said, feeling around the walls.
Then we're doomed. If this underground place has a mind of its own, we're never going to find our way to our friends. We could be trapped in a maze. I tried to stop myself from thinking the worst.
"We break down the wall." Kristoff suggested.
"Are you kidding? It's hard concrete!" I said.
"Well, the way I see it, it we just follow the path, it'll be a maze." Kristoff argued.
"Go ahead and try. I'll be surprised if you can get a crack." I rolled my eyes.
And so he did. But it sounded more like Kristoff cracking instead of the wall. I gave him the I told you so look.
Elsa made more ice spirals from her hands until it formed an arrow. "Lead us to the Guardians, please." She whispered to herself.
"Elsa, don't waste your energy." I said.
"I won't die if my magic's gone! Jack will! And the rest of them." Elsa snapped.
"Come on, let's just get going." Olaf tried to ease the tension. "At least we have the help of some light."
We let Olaf be our guide. Elsa's magic arrow did not indicate anything, it just followed beside her. I was wondering why were there concrete walls underground. On the way, Olaf explained that he escaped through a door made by The Nightmares, it'll disappear in a matter of seconds. Looks like we will need to break the walls, but where exactly?
We were really in a maze, there were plenty of turns. I was worried that the place would trap us, the same way Olaf said that he made a left turn and it disappeared.
I pressed my ears against the walls, in hopes of trying to hear anyone. But I didn't hear anything. Either they weren't on the other side of the wall or the wall is too thick.
"I think we should head back." I announced. "At least with the rest, we have a better chance of breaking down walls. Baymax can do that."
"We've already come this far, we can't turn back." Elsa argued.
"Elsa, face it. Even if we do know where they are, wouldn't you think the place would be full of traps? Eventually they'll notice Olaf is missing and raise the alarm." I replied.
"Good point. But, I don't remember where we came from." Olaf nodded.
Kristoff was just about to speak when Elsa's arrow suddenly jerked to the right. It caught all of us of guard.
"What is it?" Kristoff asked. "Does your arrow know where they are?"
"I don't know, but I trust my instincts." Elsa said and chased after the arrow that started to move.
Looks like that plan is thrown out the window, we followed Elsa once more. I prayed that it wasn't leading us to a trap.
What if something had taken control of the arrow? Then again, what if Elsa's magic managed to sense the Guardians? This is a huge risk we're taking.
"Wait for us!" Olaf cried.
The maze came alive. A wall appeared behind us, there's no way we can go back now. Some walls came down and some came up. We had some trouble keeping track of Elsa with the chaos happening. The Nightmares are aware of our presence, and they're trying to take us prisoners as well.
"Jack! North! Tooth! Bunny! Sandy!" Elsa called out as she ran. I wanted to shut her up, if she continues this, she might get The Nightmares to appear right in front of us. I have no idea how to face them, not when we're outnumbered. I'm starting to wonder whether the gateway has messed with Elsa's sanity, she's been rather nuts lately. And I thought I was nuts.
Kristoff's scream stopped me dead in my tracks. I turned around and saw that he was gone, he was on the other side of the wall that just popped out. "Go, go! Save the rest first!" I heard him shout.
Olaf was the next to get separated. "Hang in there guys!"
"Ah!" Then I heard Elsa's shout. She had hit her head on a wall. "Here. They're here!" She exclaimed.
"Good job, now how are we going to break them out before this place consumes us?!" I asked, panting.
Elsa placed her hands on the wall. Her hands were glowing blue, brighter by the second. Soon, the wall was spreading with her ice. Are you insane?! I wanted to ask. Just by freezing the wall doesn't mean you can smash it into pieces. But there was no time to ask, with all the walls coming and going, I'm not sure we'll make it out alive.
Elsa let out a shout, her hands were brighter than ever before. SMASH! CLANK! I thought a bomb had blew up.
"Jack!" Elsa said.
