Chapter 1

Elsa's POV

Kristoff, Anna, Olaf and I were walking around the forest. Actually, we were searching for the mysterious gateway that appeared in Arendelle. You can see it clearly from the castle as well as the forest. It's deep in the forest, it's huge, you can't miss it.

But sometimes, the gateway can't be seen. Sure, I know what you're thinking, how can something that big not be seen? But it's true, some days, the gateway seems to have disappeared. I can't tell whether is it fog covering it or magic. It is a magical gateway after all.

"How far more?" Olaf asked. "And I miss Sven already! It feels like we've been walking forever and we don't seem to be getting any nearer!"

"Well, Sven is a little unwell, so he couldn't join us." Kristoff replied. "As for how far more...Um-"

"Oh give me that!" Anna snatched the map from Kristoff impatiently. "Where exactly are we?!"

"Somewhere in the forest." Kristoff crossed his arms.

"Elsa, couldn't you just like make us fly there or something?" Anna asked, her eyes still on the map.

"Anna, I can't fly." I replied.

"Well, you could float, right?" Anna asked.

"Where are you going with this?" I asked back.

"Generally, you can control ice right? What she means is that you make some ice and get it to float up, get a better view of where we're at. Or even better, take all of us there now." Kristoff explained.

"Oh... I suppose I could do that." I nodded.

"Hold on, that's..." Anna pointed to some rocks, no wait boulders, that were rolling towards us, surrounding us in a circle.

"What's going on?!" I exclaimed, ready to open fire at whatever's going on.

"It's nothing to worry about, it's Kristoff's family." Olaf grinned.

Kristoff's family? Olaf must have gone cuckoo already. How can a bunch of rocks be family?

"Hey everyone!" Olaf went forward and patted a rock. I looked at him more weirdly than ever before.

"He's crazy." I whispered into Anna's ear. Anna rolled her eyes at me. "He isn't-"

"Kristoff!" One of the rocks spoke, it had a face! It had hands! It had feet! I panicked and froze the rock. A rock that could talk?! I'm going insane!

"Elsa! What are you doing?!" Anna exclaimed.

"Grand Pabbie!" Kristoff rushed to it. "Elsa, mind if you unfreeze him?"

"What are these?!" I shouted.

"Trolls, they're trolls!" Anna replied. "And they're friendly! Only you have never met them before."

Anna calmed me down and I unfroze the troll. The troll, much older looking than the rest, approached me. "Sorry your majesty. I must apologise for our rough entrance. I'm Grand Pabbie."

"Wait... I know you..." I said, my mind going back to the past.

~Flashback~

"Please, help! My daughter!" My father said, after we arrived in the middle of nowhere in the forest.

Rocks started rolling towards us then they looked more person-like. More like trolls.

"He is the King!" I heard a whisper.

One troll walked forward, coming nearer to me. "Your majesty, born with the powers or cursed?"

"Born, and they're getting stronger." My father replied.

The troll then went to Anna who was still unconscious. "You are lucky it wasn't her heart, the heart is not so easily changed, but the head can be persuaded."

"Do what you must." My father said.

"I recommend we remove all magic," The troll said, pictures of Anna and I having fun with my powers appeared. "Even memories of magic to be safe..." The pictures changed, traces of magic were gone. "But don't worry, I'll leave the fun. She will be ok." The pictures went back to Anna's head.

"But she won't remember I have powers?" I asked.

"It's for the best." My father comforted me.

"Listen to me, Elsa." The troll said to me. "Your power will only grow. There is beauty in it...But also great danger. You must learn to control it. Fear will be your enemy."

~Flashback~

"When you were a little child, I removed Anna's memories when you accidentally struck her." He replied.

"That's right!" I said. "Oh dear, I apologise for freezing you."

"It's all right." Grand Pabbie said.

"Anyway, what brings you guys here?" Kristoff asked.

"Do you happen to know a short cut to the gateway as well?" Olaf asked.

"Now why would you want to go there?!" Grand Pabbie replied.

And so, after some convincing, Grand Pabbie gave us directions to the gateway. It was really a fast journey. I stood there, looking at the gateway in awe. It was gigantic!

"OH WOW!" Anna screamed. "It looked great from the castle, but from this? 100 times better!"

This gateway is absolutely magical. It's not even near evening yet, it's morning right now! But, the sky looks like it's close to night time. Half of the sky is night, stars decorating the beautiful night sky and the other half looks like sundown. The plants glowed bright green, covering a small part of the gateway. On top of it, it looked like... A planet? Two planets? Two planets together. I looked, inside the gateway was daytime, it shone brightly. I listed out in my head.

"I have... No words." Olaf stared in awe.

Questions were everywhere around my mind. The first was obviously why is this gateway here, in Arendelle? What lies behind the gateway? Is it true that you don't come back? What happens when you go through it? What if it's actually a black hole and you'll never come out of it? But it would be illogical, no light is seen in a black hole. During those years where I shut myself out of the world, I spent a lot of time on books, so I know some stuff.

"I wonder if we should go into it." Kristoff suggested.

"What?!" I exclaimed.

"Don't get me wrong, but I'm really curious." Anna added.

Not gonna lie, I too actually want to go through it. But the consequences are stopping me. I can't imagine not coming back. But I also can't imagine the knowledge I would have lost if we don't explore it. All I need is a guarantee to come home.

None of us realised it, but Olaf was like a few inches away from the gateway!

"Olaf!" Anna yelled in panic, running towards him and bringing him back.

"Can I go?" Olaf asked in an adorable voice after Anna put him down.

It was silence. All of us looked at each other. "Sh-Should we?" I stammered.

"If you're willing to give your life up for this, yes." Kristoff nodded.

"I'm too young to die!" Anna exclaimed.

"But Kristoff, you have to think about it, if we go through this thing, we would vanish forever, think about the people of Arendelle! What would they do without us?" I said.

"We won't vanish!" Kristoff shouted.

"Are you thinking straight?! People who went into it never came back!" I shouted back.

Anna's POV

Olaf and I left Elsa and Kristoff to continue their argument. In the meantime, we went exploring. The colour of the leaves was so bright, it's hard to believe it's real. It looks more like leaves from a fairy tale book.

"Pretty, magical, glowing leaves." Olaf smiled as he rubbed his face with the leaves. "Hey, look over there!" He said as soon as he lifted his head.

"What?" I asked, looking in the direction. "It's just a hump of leaves."

"That's my point." Olaf nodded. "I wanna do what we do every autumn."

"Oh..." I grinned as he ran to the hump of leaves and jumped into it, spreading his arms and legs. I continued walking, exploring. Excitement was building inside me, I love adventures. Especially magical adventures. Because you just can't predict about magic, it constantly surprises you.

I got close, but not too close to the gateway. I observed the stairs leading towards it. It was so thickly covered by green I barely noticed there were stairs. At first it looked like nothing but plain solid rocks, until my foot touched it. It glowed! Glowed in bright gold colour to be exact. "Wow." I said to myself. With a bit more courage, I took another step. It glowed again. I was about to take another step again when Olaf crashed into me.

"So sorry!" Olaf exclaimed. "I tripped."

"It's all right, check this out! Go up the stairs!" I said excitedly. "Well, don't go all the way up..."

"I already did that just now, and it was really fun!" Olaf said.

Within seconds, Olaf was having fun again, running up and down the stairs, each step glowing every time he stepped on one.

"Olaf? What's that sticking out from your back?" I asked, looking curiously at his back.

"Oh, it's just a flower I picked up just now! I stuffed it into my body of snow. Hold on, I'll push it back in." Olaf replied. Kristoff and Elsa soon joined us.

"Took you long enough." I rolled my eyes.

"What are you doing?! What is Olaf doing?!" Elsa asked.

"We're just having fun." I replied smoothly.

"Dangerous fun." Elsa said sternly.

"Seriously Elsa, you ought to-"

"This place is dangerous, we ought to leave." Elsa stated.

"But-"

"No buts!" Elsa interrupted me.

I sighed, I knew there was little I could do to change Elsa's mind. It's just, there's so much wonders in the world, and there's one right in front of us now! It'll be a shame not to explore it. Who knows how much we could be missing? The adventures, the mysteries...

"What are you doing?" Kristoff asked Elsa.

"I'm protecting Arendelle." Elsa simply replied, I saw her ice was starting to surround the gateway. "I'm not sure whether we can destroy it, but we can at least cover it so no one will go through it."

"By doing that, you know you're also preventing those who went in from coming back, right?" I asked.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you..." Kristoff said.

"And why is that?" Elsa snapped, looking at him.

"Look." He pointed.

Elsa's ice, it wasn't surrounding or covering the gateway any longer, it was going INTO the gateway. The ice that Elsa created were all going through it!

"Wha-What? How is that possible?!" Olaf asked.

"I don't know!" Elsa yelled in panic.

"Elsa, you need to stop!" I said. "Stop using your powers."

My jaw was wide open, I couldn't believe it. There is no proper reason that Elsa's ice would just detach itself and go through the gateway. That makes no sense!

"What... Where... Did the ice go?" Kristoff said between breaths. "I need to know!"

I couldn't agree more with Kristoff. It's as if the gateway was a magnet, and it's pulling me towards it.

"So... What do we do now?" Olaf asked.

"We go home." "We go in." Elsa and I said at the same time.

"In?" "Home?" Elsa and I asked each other.

"Anna, have you gone mad?" Elsa raised a brow.

"I'm sorry Elsa, but curiosity really got the better of me. I feel like there's something waiting for us behind there. Something that we must explore." I replied.

"But Anna, you know what happens..." Elsa said.

"Just because they never came back doesn't mean they're dead! Maybe they're on their way back, or maybe life there is so great they decided to stay there!" I shouted back. I just couldn't control myself, never have I ever been so firm about a decision.

"She's.... Right..." Kristoff said, smiling proudly at me.

"Come on Elsa, I know you wanted to go into it the minute we started searching in the forest. You're just as curious." I said again.

"Yes, I am curious." Elsa confessed. "But after seeing my ice getting sucked into the gateway, I'm starting to feel uncomfortable."

"But wouldn't you want to know what happened to it?" Olaf smirked. At this rate, it's three to one.

"Think about what could be waiting behind this gateway!" I encouraged, knowing the fact it could lead us to death. But it could also lead to an amazing discovery. So, I'm willing to take that risk.

"We'll give you some time to think." Kristoff patted Elsa's back.

"But we're still going regardless, right?" Olaf asked. "After all, the three of us voted in."

"Yeah, we are." I replied, more determined than ever. But of course it would be the best if Elsa came along, we would have each other's backs.

"All right, I'm in." Elsa sighed. I turned to her in shock. Not that I wasn't expecting that answer, but it's still pretty surprising to hear it. I also didn't expect her to make up her mind that quickly.

"That's wonderful!" Olaf skipped happily towards Elsa and have her a big hug.

"Well then, are we ready for an adventure?" Kristoff asked.

"I can barely wait." I held his hand. Elsa and Olaf joined us and we went up the staircase. The glows of the steps still amused me.

Seconds later, we were at the top. I stared into the gateway, it was really bright daytime, excitement started building in me already.

"Goodbye Arendelle." Elsa looked at the kingdom.

"For now." I added, smiling.

We glanced at each other and arm in arm, we walked through the gateway.

It all went black.
