I shouldn't be here. Eva's inner voice trembled. Her eyes flitted over the gathering of friends and family; all dressed in their finery for the open-air ceremony.

Nervously, her fingers toyed with the bouquet in her hand. The scent of lavender, weaved in through the heather and roses was meant to calm her; it didn't quite have the desired effect. Cameron's fingers gently encircled her wrist. Her eyes looked up into his.

The salt and pepper eyebrows knitted, a moment's concern reflecting in his green eyes. Then he smiled. "Trust, Eva. You must learn to trust."

She faltered slightly, her fingers gripping the bouquet's stems all the tighter. "I do trust you," she replied, in a whimper. She found the very notion that her beau suspected otherwise, offensive.

He knew that look. "I meant yourself," he said, smiling.

Eva lowered her eyes. Cameron knew her so well, better than she did herself, it seemed.

"I woke this morning a little nervous too," the groom said, soft. "I was worried I would be standing here alone."

The bride felt a wash of guilt, and she interlocked fingers with him.

Cameron glanced at their hands, thoughtful, then turned to her with a smile to banish all her fears. "Sprig - "

Eva smirked at the pet name he'd given her. It was meant as a fond reflection of the hills in their beloved Scotland. He'd named her 'Sprig' after all the purple and white heather blooms.

His fingers tightened around hers, affectionately, drawing her closer. "We have both travelled this path before, yes, but I believe the reason our past relationships didn't work, was because we were incomplete. We need each other. You are the dawn to my night, the sea to my shore. With you, my cup will never be empty; my heart never cold."

Tears pricked Eva's eyes, but they were joyful little diamonds, not her usual melancholy flow.

Cameron had always understood her, even from when they were teenagers. They had gone their separate ways in life; chased their preferred careers, new interests, and chose their life-long partners - or so they'd thought.

Eva had not always chosen wisely, a series of hiccups just seemed to snowball with every new venture, and she doubted she could break the chain. But then, chance, fate, whatever, stepped in.

And, here she was, about to say the words she promised herself she would never utter again.

Cameron kissed her brow. "This is the journey we are meant to travel, Sprig, for I have loved you since before we even met, and I know you love me. Now! Do you trust yourself?"

Eva smiled, warm, reassured. "Yes," she said lovingly, sincerely. "I do."

"Then can we get this show on the road before these midges shoot up my kilt and ruin the honeymoon?"

Together they laughed then turned to the Registrar, ready to embark on their new venture.
