Chapter 10

Neku was the first to react as he abruptly stood up, clenching his fists at his side.

"What the hell you prick? What makes you think it's OK to just barge into other people's lives? As far as I'm concerned, I finished your stupid game a little while ago and should be left out of the UG. I don't think that as a Composer, you have kept in touch with any other former Players. You just show up when its convenient," Neku said as he glared at the Composer before taking in a deep breath, exhaling slowly as he tried recomposing himself. Joshua, on the other hand, merely smirked and crossed his legs, running his finger over the smooth surface of the object that had burned Neku not long ago.

Joshua clicked his tongue. "Now now Neku. There's no need to overreact about these kinds of things. It's perfectly normal to talk with others about personal issues and conflicts from time to time. And as a matter of fact, I do keep in touch with former Players. After all, you are sitting next to one that I talk with a lot."

I took a glance towards Neku who had looked over towards me, causing me to shift uncomfortably. Neku didn't respond but had taken a seat next to me again. My phone had buzzed in my pocket and I looked at Joshua who shrugged, silently telling me that it was alright to check who was trying to contact me. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, scanning over the text from Koki.

'Urgent. Routes closed. Being attacked. Reapers Erased. Udagawa Back Streets. Requesting backup.'

The text threw me off as just earlier Koki was asking if I wanted to join him for some ramen. He usually didn't joke around about this stuff and as I was about to respond, my phone blew up with even more texts from other Reapers reporting about the same issue.

"What's wrong dear?" Joshua asked, raising an eyebrow towards me. "You look troubled."

Wordlessly, I pushed my phone across across the glass table to him as he picked my phone up, scrolling through the many reports coming in. Joshua pursed his lips, deep in thought. Neku was the first to break the silence.

"What's going on?"

"Something happened at the Udagawa Back Streets and many Reapers are being Erased because of it," I answered, accepting my phone after Joshua handed it back to me. Neku's face paled slightly.

"That is troubling," Joshua said, "and if you wouldn't mind (Y/n), can you go and assist them in the fight and report back to me?"

I nodded and stood up. "I'll be back as soon as it's over."

Joshua nodded and tossed a few pins towards me. I fumbled to catch them, dropping two in the process as one rolled near Neku's feet. He knelt down to pick it up and handed it to me. I quietly thanked him and picked up the other fallen pin. I glanced at the six pins Joshua threw at me. I immediately recognized the brand of the pins as Gatito, but I couldn't put a name to the pins themselves. The Gatito brand was unique compared to the other twelve brands in Shibuya, as it was not sold in a specific store, nor was it widely known either (despite it being heavily rumored to be related to CAT since it bared a resemblance to CAT's work). The only exception to this was the Red Skull pin that was advertised during Neku's time during the Game, which everyone recognized as CAT's work. Other than that pin, the other Gatito threads and pin sets are only available and visible by Players in the Reapers' Game. As a Reaper in the Game myself, I never thought much into it.

"Those pins will work in your hand so you don't have to pin them to your shirt unless you really want to. I won't judge," Joshua giggled.

I put the pins in my pocket opposite of the ones holding my Reaper pin and Conductor pin and turned my back to leave but stopped when I saw Neku suddenly stood up from the corner of my eye.

"I'll go too." My heart skipped a beat at his voice but I was also slightly fearful for him. He didn't have his psychs anymore and he certainly couldn't go to the UG to fight.

Joshua giggled. "How heroic of you Neku dearie but I'm afraid you can't be (Y/n)'s knight in shining armor today. As you've probably noticed, you don't have your psychs and even if you did, you can't use them. You aren't dead anymore, but if you'd like, I'd be happy to grant your wish~"

"I'm sure you would you ass," Neku muttered under his breath, crossing his arms as a look of realization crossed over his face and he sat down in defeat. Although, I only saw it for a split second before he dipped his head down into the funnel of the collar on his shirt, deep in thought.

I bit my lip. "I'll be going now. I'll report if it gets too out of hand."

"Be careful," Neku said. I froze and turned around to see Neku looking at me with a small smile as he nervously clasped his hands together, squeezing them tightly. I offered a small smile in return and nodded, unable to speak anymore as my chest tightened slightly. Oh how I missed talking with Neku. I walked out of Dead God's Pad. A light breeze came through the Station Underpass and sent a light shiver down my spine as the air around me grew cold, despite the sun shining brightly, sending hot rays of light down on Shibuya. I stayed tuned to the UG as I fully exited the Underpass and made my way to the Back Streets of Udagawa. I was thankful for the fact that I was invisible and could walk through people instead of having to push my way through them. I was in a hurry and gradually began to increase my speed and ran towards where Koki and the other Reapers were.

I slowed down and as I made my way past Shibu-Q Heads, I heard a voice. I hadn't heard it before, but there was something familiar about it. It was familiar in a way that made me almost freeze in my tracks. I placed a hand on the wall nearest to me to steady myself.

"I want the Composer here right now."

"Well that's a shame now ain't it. None of us even know the Composer's identity so that's asking a lot," I heard Koki say. I could imagine him mindlessly twirling his bean paste lollipop around his fingers.

"How funny you should mention that when you've all met him before," the icy tone from before said, as venom dripped ever so blatantly from his voice. I bit the inside of my cheek. The stranger was correct, but none of us knew it was actually the Composer that second week as we were never told, so naturally, we just thought Joshua was some kid playing the Reapers' Game alive for the sport of it (which he probably was).

"That's possible now ain't it. Maybe we have met him. I wouldn't know." I heard a loud crash and the sound of an explosion go off as metal hit the ground. The sound of a body falling hit the ground with a loud 'thump!'.

I pushed myself off of the wall and ran over to the CAT mural to see the same man I had seen previously. The feathery wings on his back dripped a black substance that evaporated as soon as it touched the ground, as a few other white feathers had been stained with a dark crimson color. I gulped and reached in my pocket for the pins Joshua had given me, ignoring the slight headache that was growing. The aura he gave off was almost suffocating as the imagination that leaked off of him was even greater than the Composer's. Koki was breathing heavily as he was leaning against the wall and slowly slid down it. Multiple cuts and bruises were visible on his body as he looking ready to pass out at any given moment. Uzuki was lying face down next to him, unconscious as blood seeped out of a few gashes. Many other Reapers were unconscious and some were fading as their life had finally given out. Koki was the first to notice me as his one open eye widened as he saw me.

"Hey!" I shouted, gaining the man's attention, effectively stopping him from finishing Koki off momentarily as he turned towards me, a grin prominent on his features. He dropped his hand as the light faded from it. His wings shook slightly as droplets of blood hit the ground.

"I thought you'd never show Poppet," he said. The nickname made my eye twitch in annoyance. I would rather be called dear by Joshua any day over Poppet.

"That's not my name. Want to explain why you're injuring all these Reapers?" I asked, barely able to contain my anger towards him. If it was even possible, his grin widened, a crazed look in his eye.

"Injuring? I'm just trying to get the information I need out of them. I wouldn't have to do this if they would just comply. Surely you understand?"

"No, I don't. What are even looking for?" I asked, staying on guard as I held the Gatito pins tightly in my hand. The man rubbed his chin.

"Hm, you must be the Conductor. How perfect! You should be able to direct me to the Composer. After all, I know for certain that you have contact with him and it's urgent that I speak with him and get back what's rightfully mine." He spoke as if he knew me, and was demanding in the sense of a toddler. If he didn't get his way, then he would throw a fit.

I thought of Mr. Kitaniji and the way he would speak about the Composer being an all-mighty being who others didn't deserve to even look upon. "You have my apologies, but the Composer is busy at the moment and is unavailable to speak with right now. And I'm sure that he wouldn't appreciate you injuring any of his Reapers either, much less Erasing them. However, I'd be willing to let him know that you came and stopped by if you give me a name."

He snarled. "You cocky little- You know what, I don't need your permission to go and see him. I'm getting what's mine back, whether I have to kill every Reaper in front of me to get it or not. You honestly think that you can stop me? I'm way more powerful than you lowly Reapers could ever hope to be, and that includes the Composer. In the Reaper hierarchy, Angels like me trump the Composer and all the Reapers under Him. I don't want to hurt you but unfortunately, I need to speak with the Composer. Speaking of getting what's mine back, you have something of mine too don't you? I want that pin back too."

Pin? The one I gave Mr. Hanekoma?

On top of that he's claiming to be an Angel, but he looks far from the part, the opposite.

Almost like a Fallen Angel.

And the only Fallen Angel I had heard of was Renji Ure, who I wasn't supposed to know about either way according to Joshua, as he stated that he could get in trouble for it in previous conversations. Although, I had no idea who the man in front of me was and it was a stretch if I was to claim that he was the Fallen Angel who targeted me all those years ago.

"Pin? The one you saw me pick up? If you wanted it so bad then you could've taken it from me when I first saw it. You were there. Besides I don't have it anymore and you can't speak with the Composer right now," I said, getting irritated at repeating myself. I knew that I wasn't helping my case by mouthing him off or giving him sarcastic remarks. I wasn't too confident in my ability to fight either. I had no idea what the pins Joshua gave me did either so fighting with them was going to be easier said than done. On top of that, my headache continued to grow and was pounding on my skull.

His eyes flashed a dangerous red color as he brought his hand up, gathering a massive amount of imagination and power to the palm of his hand.

"Alright, if you won't let me see him then I'll just have to get through you first."
