Chapter 9: Let's Hope Nothing Goes Wrong
~With Team Alpha~
"Alright, so where do we start?" Wilbur asked.
"Well, for one we have to make sure it was you, so what happened when you teleported?" Violet asked.
"Well, I was running from the robot with you in my arms," Wilbur started," I wished that I could take you away from the danger by leaving you in the training room. I closed my eyes and felt like I was as light as a feather. I opened my eyes and there I was."
"Oh, umm," Violet avoided his gaze and started to think," Okay, that's something to start with. When we were fighting Syndrome I couldn't use my powers very well. My mom told me that when the time came I would be able to use them, and she was right. Maybe that's what happened."
"How do I do it again?" Wilbur asked.
"Concentrate on what you want to do but relax. You can't force your powers, let them come naturally," Violet explained. Wilbur did as he was told and closed his eyes. He concentrated, but nothing happened.
"Nothing," Wilbur sighed.
"It's not going to just happen the first time. It takes time and effort. Concentrate. Imagine you're in danger and need to make a quick escape, but make it somewhere close so you don't get lost," Violet instructed him.
Wilbur closed his eyes and imagined being chased by Doris. He remembered how he was sucked into a void where he felt nothing. He then imagined being in the lab to get away. He felt light again and opened his eyes.
"I did it!" he shouted in victory. He tried again feeling the energy of his powers come naturally now and teleported a few feet away. The elevator door opened and he was tackled by Violet.
"I knew you could do it!" Violet exclaimed and hugged him.
"That was so cool, let's keep training," Wilbur stated and hugged her back. She let go and cleared her throat.
"Now let's see if you can get as good as me," she challenged him with confidence.
"It's on!" he declared and pointed to the ceiling. A streak of light came out from his hands and shocked the lightbulb above.
"Fulgurkinesis!? Oh yeah! You're going down," he proclaimed and they both ran back to the open room.
~3 hour time skip~
"Now that you've gotten fairly good with your powers let's see how you do against me," Violet instructed.
Wilbur nodded and smirked. They both waited for the other to make the first move. A few seconds passed and Violet decided to go first by creating a force field and throwing it at him, something she just learned to do. Wilbur managed to teleport behind her but she became invisible and he lost her.
"Come out, come out wherever you are," Wilbur called and looked around. He heard some footsteps coming closer so he shot some lightning towards the sound.
"Since when can you do that?!" Hiro exclaimed. He, Penny, and Bolt were behind Violet's force field.
"Sorry, guys," Wilbur apologized and rubbed the back of his neck.
"But isn't it amazing!?" he asked excitedly and more lighting came out from him.
"He has trouble completely controlling it though," Violet informed them.
"That is actually pretty awesome," Hiro agreed.
"Oh! Here, we scanned a lot of people and even wrote their names down, just in case," Penny told them and handed Wilbur the paper.
"Hiro and I will check them out. You and Violet can continue training," Wilbur told them. He and Hiro took Baymax to the computer to upload the data they collected.
"We finally have some girl time, what should we do first?" Penny asked Violet.
"I already worked on my powers for the past 3 hours, how about strength and endurance?" she suggested.
"Alright, let's start by stretching," Penny agreed and they both walked over to the open room.
"How was your quest to scan people?" Violet asked as they both reached for their toes.
"Well, actually. I even got to meet Hiro's aunt," Penny told her.
"Really? What is she like?" Violet asked.
"She's really nice and bubbly. She also has no problem revealing any secrets Hiro has," Penny told her and laughed a bit.
"Really? What did she say?" Violet asked curiously.
It kind of reminded her of her own mom when she introduced Tony to her. Tony. She hadn't thought of him once these past few weeks. It made her wonder why. Even when they were on Syndrome's island she thought of him once. She thought about how if she couldn't tell him how she felt, how was she supposed to face a life-threatening situation?
"She told me that she was a Bolt fan and had even shown the show to Hiro and Tadashi. Hiro apparently watched the entire first season 3 times," Penny told her.
"Sounds like he either really like the episodes or really liked the characters," Violet told her. Penny blushed slightly and laughed nervously.
"But how did she know about the show? Did you tell her it was you?" Violet asked.
"No, she said I reminded her of the actress and her dog. I told her that my parents were big fans and named me after her," Penny replied.
"Nice save," Violet commented.
"Why thank you," Penny flipped her hair like a diva and they both laughed.
"What about your training session with Wilbur?" Penny asked her.
"Oh, umm, fine," Violet replied trying to act normal.
"Oh come on. Violet, I'm a professional actress, I can see through your act. Was it something bad?" Penny asked her.
"No! I mean yes- Well not necessarily," Violet tried to explain. "I hugged him."
"Really? What was the context of the hug?" Penny asked her.
"I was happy that he was able to use his teleportation powers, and I hugged him. But it felt...different," Violet told her. She did a split and reached for her left leg.
"Different from what?" Penny asked curiously and did the same.
"Different from a guy I had a crush on. His name is Tony Rydinger, I had a crush on him for the longest time. Whenever I was around him I felt butterflies. We even went on a date, but when I'm around Wilbur I feel safe," Violet explained.
"You had a crush on Tony?" Penny repeated.
"I still do! At least I think I do. I'm no good with emotions, I tried not to show anything but discontent before, so this is fairly new to me," Violet admitted.
"Don't worry, now you have a super cool friend like me to talk to," Penny stated confidently.
"Thanks, I've never had friends like you guys. I feel like I can trust you," Violet told her and smiled a bit.
"You're welcome, I feel the same way," Penny agreed.
"Alright, I think that's enough stretching. Why don't we get started?" Violet asked and shook her legs a bit.
"Yeah, let's start with push-ups," Penny suggested.
They did an array of exercises from push-ups to burpees. They wrote down how many they could do in a minute and then how many they could do non-stop. They both had their strengths and weaknesses.
Violet's weakness was the six-inches but she ruled the jumping jacks. Penny's weakness was the burpees but she could do a large number of push-ups. They even tested out their cardiovascular endurance and physical strength. A good hour and a half passed by when Hiro called them over to the computer.
"Hey, did you guys find anything?" Penny huffed from exhaustion.
"Yes, actually! It's strange, look, we separated the scans into 3 categories: one for people who don't have the gene, and two for people who do have the gene, but those are divided into active and inactive," Wilbur explained and showed them the files.
"There were 7 people with an active gene, including Violet and Wilbur, the rest were these people named Mary, Andy, Riley, and even Aunt Cass and Tadashi. The people who had the inactive gene were Fred, Honey Lemon, Go Go, Wasabi, and these girls named Lilo, and Tip," Hiro informed them.
"Wait, so Aunt Cass and Tadashi have powers?" Violet asked.
"I don't know, maybe it doesn't have to do with superpowers and we're just reading too much into it. They would have told me if they had powers... Wouldn't they?" Hiro asked them.
"Maybe you should ask them? It's possible that they didn't even know they had powers," Penny suggested.
"Yeah, like Wilbur here," Violet added.
"You're right," Hiro said and looked at the clock," 8:27 p.m, could you guys come with me?" he asked a bit ashamed.
"Of course, maybe they can answer some questions we have. If not we can always erase their memory," Wilbur said and got out a pen-like object.
"Is that some sort of memory wiper?" Penny asked.
"Courtesy of the NSA, well it wasn't really a gift. I borrowed it just in case," Wilbur replied.
"I thought heroes didn't steal," Penny told him.
"We don't. Let's hope nothing goes wrong," Violet muttered and the rest nodded. Penny called Bolt before walking into the elevator with the rest. They were quietly trying to prepare themselves for what was to come.
