Chapter 21: The End
Location: The Deaver household
Year: 1963
"Hahaha," Syndrome laughed as he approached Evelyn.
"Why are you so happy?" She asked him. "And where are the rest of your henchmen?"
"They're in your living room resting," Syndrome replied. "What's with your get up?"
"I couldn't have those heroes having any proof that I'm involved. Screenslaver is connected to me, but this modified suit should keep them from making a connection," Evelyn replied and removed the mask.
"Those so called heroes are just a bunch of kids, who think they thought everything through," he replied. "But they don't know that I know everything."
"So, you planned getting stuck in that cell?" Evelyn asked.
"Of course," he retorted.
"So what does this have to do with their lair?" Evelyn asked and pointed toward a different screen.
"That's the only place they could hide that many supers without causing a commotion. Once they teleport there I'll press this button and they'll be trapped with sleeping gas and tranquilizers," he boasted.
"Right, so are you finally going to tell me how you know all this?" She asked.
"That Robinson kid has a streak of carelessness," Syndrome replied and walked toward a shelf. "Thanks to that I was able to get a hold of these."
He moved the fake shelf, opening up another shelf filled with comic books.
"When did you install that in my house?" Evelyn questioned. "And why is it filled with comic books?"
"Not just any comic books, every single comic book created about the supers we've captured and, more importantly, about The Futuristic Four as they call themselves," he explained.
"You found these where?" Evelyn asked as she approached him.
She scanned through them and picked up the first issue of The Futuristic Four.
"The Time Traveler left them in the time machine I stole. I tested them and then stole the rest. I knew every move before they could even make it," he smirked.
"And you're sure they're accurate?" She asked as she skimmed through the pages.
"100 percent," he assured her.
"Weren't you surprised when you found out they had powers?" She inquired.
"Well, yes, but they change with everything I do. When I first read them I didn't kidnap that Tadashi kid which caused him to defeat Callaghan in a one-on-one match. But after I did, the story changed and it triggered their powers," he replied and handed her the 7th issue.
"But this doesn't say anything about their real names, so how did you know?" She asked.
"I already knew our little friend Miss Disappear's real identity. I found the rest out when I paid a little visit to the people who made the comics. I only found their daughter, Mary, and her friends but she knew what I needed," he answered.
"The one who can teleport? So you don't think it's a little strange that the people who made these comics know exactly what happened and have a super as a daughter with the same power as one of the people from the comics?" She asked.
"This is where you lack knowledge about Supers. Supers are basically human lottery machines. Their offsprings don't inherit the same powers as their parents," he answered.
"And you were on of the losers in that gamble huh?" She commented.
"Don't!" He commanded and pointed a finger at her, ready to freeze her with his zero gravity laser. In response, she pressed a button on a remote in her hand. Screens came out pointing toward Syndrome.
"Want to see who's faster?" She challenged him.
He growled and put his hand down. She pressed the button twice and made the screens go away.
"How long does teleporting for supers usually take?" Evelyn asked and turned back to the screen.
"It should be instant, of course I don't know the exact timing for teleporting through time without a machine," he replied.
"Unless they didn't get out in time," she replied.
"What?" Syndrome asked.
"The building was supposed to explode a few minutes ago," she shrugged.
"You pressed the button without asking me first?" Syndrome asked through gritted teeth.
"What else was I supposed to do? Leave evidence that I'm involved with this? No thank you," she defended.
"The cameras aren't working?" He asked her.
"They were, until the island exploded," she replied.
"Lucky for you, we still have the ones in their hideout, and more subordinates ready to capture the supers in their lair," he grumbled.
He took a seat beside her. He heard some movement from the mic and changed the camera angle to the elevator. The doors opened up and out ran Penny with Wilbur, Hiro, and Violet following after her.
"What are they doing?" Evelyn wondered.
"Where are the rest?" Syndrome asked.
Syndrome changed the camera angle once again, but the lights went off.
"What are we going to do now?" They heard someone ask.
"Where are we?"
"Is this another lab?"
"We need to get back home."
"We need to find our sister!"
"We'll find the problem with the lights once we rest up a bit."
"See? You should learn to have faith in me," Syndrome snickered.
Evelyn rolled her eyes and called the remaining soldiers, giving them the signal. The top screens showed the soldiers breaking into the lab. The elevator door was open, allowing the first few soldiers entrance. They travelled down to the underground lab, but with the lights off they couldn't quite see where the supers were.
"Put your night vision goggles on geniuses," Evelyn instructed them.
The rest went down, seemingly unnoticed by the supers, and turned their goggles on once they were in the dark.
The soldiers looked around confused.
"What's going on?" Evelyn asked a soldier through her mic.
"We don't see any— AAHH!" The soldiers began to scream in pain when the lights turned on.
"Where are they?!" Syndrome yelled as he glared at the screen.
No supers were in the lab despite their voices still being heard.
"Come to think of it, why would a super who can time travel need a time machine?" Evelyn mused.
"For a couple of geniuses, you don't know how to connect the dots. Which is great for us."
The two villains turned away from the screens. The Futuristic Four stood in front of them. Syndrome and Screen Slaver reached for their remotes but Hiro and Penny quickly pulled then away.
"You're quieter than your mom I'll give you that," Evelyn commented once she saw Violet. "She was too trusting. When she found out the truth she yelled it out. Tch. And she's said to be one of the best heroes."
Violet remained composed as she created two tight forcefields around the villains.
"Go ahead, takes us to the police. See what they'll do to two brilliant minds like us," Syndrome shrugged.
"Oh you'll be behind bars all right, just not prison bars," a man said as he walked into the room.
Four men walked in behind him and pointed guns at the two villains.
"And who are you supposed to be?" Evelyn asked.
"NSA agent, you can call me Mr. Anderson," he replied. "You're under arrest for the kidnapping of the superhero team The Incredibles and Frozone since they're the only ones we can prove."
"What were you planning to do anyway? Supers are legal now and you kind of had a hand in that," Violet told her.
"If you figured everything out how do you not know? What is the only way to make something illegal permanently?" She asked with an evil smirk.
Violet took a menacing step forward. Wilbur furrowed his eyebrows, he put his hand on Violet's shoulder and squeezed it slightly to reassure her.
"We'll be taking them away now," Mr. Anderson informed them.
His men shot tranquilizing darts at the villains and carried them off.
"I don't know how your four always manage to beat villains like them but keep up to good work," he told them as he walked out. "Oh, and if I were you four I'd make sure to carry some chocolates and paperclips. You never know who might need it."
The four stood tall as the villains were taken away, but as soon as the doors were closed they collapsed to the floor.
"I can barely move my legs," Penny groaned.
"I'm pretty sure this isn't normal," Wilbur added with a hiss as he looked through the wound on his left shoulder. His veins were glowing with energy as the hole from Richard's ray gun slowly healed.
"We've still got work to do," Violet reminded them.
"Let's just rest for a minute," Hiro mumbled from the floor.
"A minute wouldn't hurt," Violet agreed.
The four closed their eyes and rested soundly for the first time in quite a while.
"Shh, don't wake them up."
"Carefully lay them down."
"You four did good, now you need to rest."
"Getting into trouble runs in the family, huh?"
Wilbur slowly opened his eyes and looked around with blurry vision. He tried to rub his eyes to see clearly but he could barely move his arms. The room was dimly lit thanks to two small lamps at the end of each wall.
"Are you awake?" Hiro asked.
"Yeah, how'd you know?" Wilbur replied.
"I didn't, that's why I asked," Hiro replied.
Wilbur chuckled and turned his head to the right, each of them had their own small bed but they were side by side with a small gap in between each bed. Violet was still asleep but she was beginning to stir. He looked past her to see Penny opening her eyes and Hiro staring at the ceiling.
"I can't move my body," Hiro admitted.
"Yeah, me neither," Wilbur replied.
"This has been the hardest mission I've ever been on," Violet added once she awoke.
"Where are we?" Penny asked.
"We're in the lab, the one from the 1963," Wilbur replied.
"How did we get here?" Penny asked.
"I have no idea. None of the other Supers know the location of this place and Evelyn's house," Wilbur replied.
"We won, right? Now they can't capture more supers and we can focus on bringing everyone home," Penny asked.
"Yeah, we did," Hiro replied.
Penny looked at him and noticed his body starting to shake. He used his left arm to cover his eyes but she could see his tears. She reached for him, but stopped and looked at her hand.
"What's wrong Hiro?" She asked instead.
"I'm just relieved, that's all," he replied.
"Hiro, could you please give me your hand?" she asked him.
He extended his right hand out to her and she slowly took it into her's. When nothing happened she turned right and extended her hand to Violet. Violet held her hand and then turned to Wilbur. Wilbur smiled and held her hand.
"Whatever happens, we'll do it together, right?" Penny asked them.
"Right," the other three replied.
They didn't need to promise, they trusted each other more than enough to know they were a team.
"Futuristic Four, we won this race," Wilbur said.
Hiro wiped the tears from his eyes and smiled at them. They continued to hold each other's hands despite the pain that they felt because it was a pain they all shared. Their first mission as a team was over but this was just the first of many yet to come for these heroes of time.
~~The End~~
A/N: I hope you enjoyed this story thus far! 😁 I might include and epilogue I don't know. However, I will be making another book soon. My only question is whether I'll publish another one focusing mainly on the Futuristic Four, The Big Four, or another secret group I've never seen stories for. (I'm pretty sure I'll be the first to make this specific group, but who knows.) I'll publish them all eventually though. Thanks for sticking around until the end after the two years it took me to finish this book. 🥳😅
