Chapter 15: Ticket to Freedom
Syndrome grumbled as he walked over to the storage room where he placed the teleportation spheres. He opened the doors and grabbed one when he noticed Yokai and Dr. Calico walking by with the four young Supers in tow.
“Where do you think you're going?” Syndrome asked them.
“We were coming to ask you where you wanted them placed. In separate cells, or with Supers like them?” Dr. Calico asked.
“Put those three in cells with Supers that have similar powers, but put her with her parents,” Syndrome replied, smirking evilly when he pointed at Violet.
They were about to leave when Syndrome stopped them.
"Wait, that one has quite a bruise there, what happened?" Syndrome asked and pointed to an uncouncious Penny.
"Why do you care?" Wilbur sneered.
Yokai increased the microbot's hold on him, making him groan.
"We didn't want to take any chances with her mind control, so we knocked her out. It'll give Dr. Forrester an incentive, don't you think?" Dr. Calico asked.
"I'm surprised you didn't mess up for once," Syndrome commented. "You know what to do."
The two villains nodded and turned around. Syndrome closed the storage and threw the sphere a few feet away. He fixed his suit before walking through it. Penny glanced at his retreating figure, waiting until the portal closed shut.
“He’s gone,” she whispered to Wilbur.
“Good, how are Hiro and Violet doing,” Wilbur replied.
“Hiro, did you find them?” Penny asked him via telepathy.
“Yeah, but there are cameras everywhere. It’s been difficult to get close, going into the control room would be much more difficult, luckily I was able to get the layout of the building. I’ll send it to you guys,” Hiro responded.
“Both Syndromes are gone, and Yokai and Dr. Calico are under my control, maybe that’s it?” Penny replied.
“No, the video Syndrome “leaked” had Violet and I beating a man. I found that he was your ex-agent. My guess is he’s working with them too,” Wilbur replied.
“So, what do we do?” Hiro asked.
“If I can touch one of the cameras, I could potentially fry this level’s circuits, since, based on the blueprint Hiro just sent, everything appears to be connected. Even if I only fry some of the cameras we could use it as a distraction,” Wilbur thought.
“There’s a camera right ahead. On the count of three Wilbur will grab the camera, and I will make them release us. Aunt Cass, you and I will go to where Hiro is to find the Supers and lock up the villains,” Penny explained to everyone.
“Wow,” Hiro mumbled.
He was impressed that she could take over so well.
“I’m going to find the time machine. What about the guards? Just because we didn-t see any, doesn't mean there are none,” Wilbur asked.
“If they’re trouble we’ll take care of them as we go along, but we’ve only seen about 6 since we arrived so I’m guessing there aren’t that many,” Penny responded.
Aunt Cass, who tripled herself and then used holograms to look like Hiro, Baymax, and Violet, nodded with a slight smile.
“This is happening so fast,” Aunt Cass thought.
“We’re sorry for dragging you into this, but we needed physical bodies for the holograms to work without disappearing if they were touched,” Wilbur apologized.
“I’d be lying if I said I’m not afraid, but I wasn’t referring to that,” Aunt Cass replied.
“Everyone ready? 1… 2… 3!” Penny counted.
~Back at the Lab~
“How did you manage to get caught?” Syndrome asked his other self.
He had arrived right at the lab’s front door, noticing that the door was unlocked. He walked in, and found the elevator, using it to travel to the underground headquarters. Once down stairs he noticed his future self tied up in the cage.
“Where is the opening?” Syndrome pondered as he looked around the cage, but could not find where to open it from.
“I guess I’ll make my own opening,” he shrugged and opened up his utility gauntlet.
“Violet, how are you doing?” Violet heard Penny.
“I’m fine, the other Syndrome just arrived. I’ll take his gauntlet off and then ask Wilbur to bring me to you guys,” Violet replied.
~Back at the Island~
“Please be careful,” Penny told Violet.
“I will,” Violet replied before Penny cut off the communication.
“Aunt Cass, if something happens, we need you to get all of the Supers out of here,” Hiro told her.
“I can’t leave you here,” she tried to protest.
“Please,” Hiro pleaded. She sighed but nodded.
“What did Violet say?” Hiro asked as he saw Penny walk closer.
“She said that she would ask Wilbur to bring her here once she took Syndrome’s gauntlet off,” Penny replied.
“Okay, according the the blueprints, there is nothing here, but according to Baymax there are 20 people,” Hiro told them.
“Behind this wall?” Penny asked and put her ear against it.
“Yes, fortunately, these doors are made of metal. Penny grab my hand,” Hiro instructed.
He took off his suit’s glove before extending his arm out towards her. She took off her own glove and grabbed his hand, wanting to control her own powers. He used his other hand to point towards the door. He closed his hand causing the wall to crush together, creating a hole for them to pass through.
“Since when could you do that?” Aunt Cass asked in surprise.
“A few days I think, I sort of lost track of time after Tadashi was kidnapped,” Hiro replied. “And I technically can’t do that without getting a boost from Penny.”
“Yet,” Penny reminded him before walking through the hole where the doors used to stand.
“There are 3 rows of cells divided into 4 columns,” Hiro told them.
“Why do all the rooms look different?” Aunt Cass questioned.
“Syndrome said all the Supers were separated by their powers, except for Violet’s family who are in the same cell,” Hiro replied.
He walked over to a clear glass room and noticed a young woman with green eyes hidden behind large rimmed glasses. (Guess who?) Her blonde hair was tied up by a scrunchie into a ponytail. She stood in the middle of the room seemingly tired and distraught.
“Hello? Can you hear me?” Hiro asked.
“Flint?” the woman asked, her voice clearly showing she hoped it was who she was talking about.
The woman looked around, not knowing where the voice came from. Hiro saw two gun like things come out of the corners of the room, but before he could even try to warn her they shot out laser beams and quickly retracted.
The woman yelped, and Hiro witnessed her skin becoming mirror like and shiny. The lasers just hit her and bounced off. They ricocheted against the walls, hitting the woman, but seemingly only making her lose her balance.
She hugged herself before her skin went back to normal. The lasers hit her left leg and right shoulder, making her fall in pain. Hiro finally noticed the burn marks on her clothes.
“We’re going to get you out of there!” Hiro exclaimed.
While Hiro tried to figure a way to get her out, Penny noticed all the different rooms. They were all made of different materials with the people inside having to do various things. One of the cells had two people, a man and a woman, being pushed down by a large platform.
The young man had brown hair and a small beard while the young woman had strawberry blonde hair up in braids. They both had on what looked like costumes, since the clothes they wore resembled that of the 19th century.
“Calico, open this cell,” Penny told the villain.
In compliance, Dr. Calico moved his robot forward. He placed his hand on the door and a keypad came out. Penny watched him put in the code before the door opened up.
“Hey! I’m here to get you out!” Penny told them.
“Why is he with you?” the guy asked through gritted teeth.
“He’s under my control. If you two could just move here, you can let go of the platform and get out before it falls,” Penny instructed.
“Thanks for the idea, but it shocks us if we move our hands,” the girl huffed.
"I'll think of something," Penny replied.
"Yay! Thanks! You have no idea how tiring this is," the girl thanked her.
"Anna! Why should we trust her?" The guy asked.
"You need to be less skeptical. I don't think Elsa would appreciate the way you're talking to her," the girl replied matter-of-factly.
Penny bit her lip before crawling toward them.
“Hey, woah shortie, what are you doing?” the guy asked.
“If I can increase your strength, you might be able to push the platform all the way up and then make a run for it,” Penny replied.
“You’re going to do what?” the girl asked.
Penny took off her gloves and got in between them. She touched their arms, filling them with strength.
“Penny, Aunt Cass, any luck?” Hiro quickly asked them and turned around.
He noticed the open door and the two villains staring blankly. He quickly ran towards it to see Penny in between two people pushing a metal platform to the roof. Once they threw it back to the roof they ran to the door. Penny, however, was a bit disoriented from using up more energy than usual and couldn't run straight.
“Penny!” Hiro yelled and tried to control the platform to stop it from falling down, but to no avail.
