Chapter 1: The Mission Starts

~~The picture isn't really relevant to the story, but I found it cute.~~

Hiro was once again wiping the floor with his opponent's robot. It was fun to watch them underestimate him, and get shocked when he won. This one, however, was mad and pushed him to a wall while his henchman surrounded him. He immediately decided it was high time to leave.

"Hey fellas, let's talk about this," he said nervously as they got closer. All of a sudden a moped came and stopped in front of him.

"Hiro get on!" his brother commanded.

"Tadashi! Perfect timing!" he exclaimed and climbed on.

His brother quickly put a helmet on him and they sped off. Hiro turned around and saw that his robot was coming closer, so he picked it up once it was close enough to the moped. He could tell Tadashi was angry just by the tone of his voice, but getting hit also helped him figure it out.

"You graduate high school at 13 and this is what you decide to do with your life?! Bot fighting is illegal!" Tadashi exclaimed.

"Bot fighting isn't illegal, betting on bot fighting, that- that's illegal," he corrected and chuckled,"but so lucrative! I'm on a roll big brother and there is nothing stopping me!"

"Looking back on it, I might have jinxed myself," Hiro thought as he waved nervously to his brother from the jail cell he was in.

After Aunt Cass picked them up and frantically ranted about being an inadequate guardian Hiro mauled over what Tadashi told him. Was bot fighting really what he wanted to do for the rest of his life? Tadashi had had enough and decided to take his brother to his college. He showed him that there is so much potential he could unlock by going to college, even if he felt that he had already learned everything it could offer.

Tadashi took Hiro to his "nerd lab" as Hiro called it and introduced him to his friends and Baymax. Then, just as they were leaving they ran into Professor Callaghan who made Hiro want to attend San Fransokyo I.T. Hiro had worked really hard and was finally going to show everyone is microbots. His friends gave him some advice before going ahead to place the microbots where he had told them. He was about to walk towards the stage when he heard bird calls.

"Coo Coo! Coo Coo!" something said from behind a curtain. Hiro turned in the direction of the noise, but quickly looked at his brother when he heard his name being called.

"I'm going to go get Aunt Cass, don't worry, you've got this," Tadashi reassured him before leaving. Hiro smiled and turned to where the noise had come from.

"I'm just nervous," he concluded and chuckled to himself before he heard the noise again. This time he walked over and pulled the curtain and saw a boy around his age with black hair in a cowlick hairstyle, brown eyes, and weird clothes. The boy looked taken aback before he pulled him behind the curtain and closed it again.

"What do you think you're doing?" Hiro asked him before the boy shushed him.

"The name is Wilbur, I'm here to help you," the boy explained.

"Help me? With what? And why does your name sound familiar?" Hiro asked.

"That's a need to know basis. I'm looking for Professor Callaghan, do you know where he is?" Wilbur asked him.

"He should be walking around and judging the booths, why?" Hiro asked.

"That's confidential. Just know that he is not a guy you should trust," Wilbur explained vaguely.

"And how do I know I can trust you?" Hiro asked with his arms crossed. Wilbur opened his mouth and then quickly closed it.

"Touché," Wilbur said before pushing Hiro out from behind the curtains as his name was called to go next.

"You didn't see anything," Wilbur warned him and went back behind the curtains.

Hiro's eyebrows furrowed and he walked towards the stage.

"That certainly didn't help my nerves," he thought as he walked on stage.

After Hiro got off stage his friends came over and congratulated him on his work. Then Alistair Krei walked over and offered to buy his invention before Professor Callaghan and Mr. Robinson intervened.

"Mr. Krei is right, your microbots are an inspired piece of tech. You can continue to develop them or you can sell them to a man who's only guided by his own self-interest," Professor Callaghan explained with venom in his words.

"Now, now, act civilized," Mr. Robinson said and smiled. He then turned to look at Hiro.

"Cornelius Robinson, it's such an honor!" Hiro exclaimed.

"It's an honor for me too. You remind me of myself when I was young, well you remind me of myself now too. How did you get the idea for the microbots?" Mr. Robinson asked in astonishment.

"Well... At first, it was just a small robot, but it sort of developed into what it is now," Hiro explained while leaving the bot fighting part out because he felt embarrassed.

"Incredible! That sounds like something my son Wilbur would read in his comics," Cornelius commented with a chuckle. Hiro was surprised, Wilbur doesn't seem like a common name.

"Really? Umm, how-how old is your son?" he asked and cleared his throat.

"He's younger than you, he is 10 years old," Mr. Robinson informed him.

Hiro nodded and thought to himself," He didn't look 10 years old, it must be a coincidence."

"So, Hiro, what will it be? Are you going to sell me your microbots-?" Mr. Krei asked.

"Or stay here at San Fransokyo I.T and develop you microbots?" Mr. Callaghan asked.

"Or a third option, I'll pay for your entire college here at S.F.I.T and even buy you your very own lab to work on your microbots and other inventions, no strings attached," Mr. Robinson offered.

"Shut up. Are you serious? Why?" Hiro asked both excited and confused.

"When I was younger I had someone help me realize that I could do anything I set my mind to, and I would like to help you do the same. The only condition is that you must help someone else find their purpose later on too," Cornelius explained.

Hiro went over all of his options, he didn't want to sell out his invention, so Mr. Krei's offer was off the table. He really wanted to attend this school, but Wilbur's words, despite being a stranger to him, made him wary of keeping his microbots at S.F.I.T. He finally came to a conclusion. He turned to Professor Callaghan and Alistair Krei and declined their offers in favor of Mr. Robinson's.

"Great! No hard feelings right?" Mr. Robinson asked the other two.

"No of course not, I'm just glad Hiro will be attending class here. I'm looking forward to seeing you in class," Professor Callaghan told him and handed him a registration letter, "Why don't we go discuss Hiro's college plan?" He and Mr. Robinson then walked off.

Mr. Krei looked disappointed and started walking away when Tadashi stopped him and asked for the microbot he had taken from Hiro back. Mr. Krei gave it back and walked off. Everyone cheered for Hiro and headed towards the door.

"Back to the cafe, dinner is on me!" Aunt Cass proclaimed. Tadashi told her that they would catch up and, after giving them an almost bone-crushing hug, she left with their friends. Tadashi took Hiro to a bridge and they started to talk about how Hiro's fly was down the entire speech and how Tadashi was proud of Hiro.

"So how are you and Honey Lemon?" Hiro asked like it was no big deal.

"What do you mean?" Tadashi asked an averted his gaze.

"You know what I mean. I saw the way you looked at her when you first took me to the lab," Hiro said with a "You-Know-What-I-mean" face.

"Oh, so it's not a "nerd lab" anymore?" Tadashi asked obviously trying to change the subject. Hiro was about to press on, but they heard screaming and quickly ran back towards the school.

The whole building was on fire and people were scrambling to get out. Tadashi asked a woman if there was anyone inside to which she responded by saying that Professor Callaghan was still inside. Tadashi ran to go inside, but Hiro stopped him telling him that he couldn't.

"Someone has to help," Tadashi told him and before Hiro could protest Tadashi ran inside. Hiro took a step closer and the building exploded, pushing him backward. He looked towards the building and felt as if the whole world had stopped.

"Don't worry, I've got you," he heard a voice say from behind him. He turned around and saw Tadashi being carried by none other than The Time Traveler.

"Tadashi!" Hiro exclaimed and ran to his brother.

"You have to go back! Professor Callaghan is still in there!" Tadashi told the Time Traveler.

"I can't. I'm sorry," The Time Traveler replied.

"Thanks for saving me anyways," Tadashi said and hung his head in shame. Hiro hugged him and cried into his arms. He looked at the superhero and saw him take off his mask. It was Wilbur! He mouthed a "See you later" and ran towards the building to try to put the fire out.
