Yukari was her everything. She put a smile on her face everyday when she saw her come. She made her feel special, loved, happy. She was the best thing that happened to her, and it was the best thing that she had ever experienced for her entire life.

Yuyuko was different from everyone else, and she always had been. Her family secluded her from the outside so no one could bully her, but they always found s way. People threw rocks at her and told everyone else to stay away before you caught her disease. The only person that she had were the deadly butterflies that were near her. The deadly butterflies that bit others and killed people, the ones that scared people away. They were attracted to her, but she didn't know why, they just were so attracted to her and no one else. They didn't afflict harm onto her, they just flew around her and bothered anyone that they landed on. And so because of this mysterious power that she possessed, no one would be friends with her and bully her.

Until she came that is....

It was just a normal day when she came. Yuyuko was sitting on her back porches and looked at the fluttering butterflies of death and the gently falling flower petals. "Excuse me, are you Yuyuko Saigyonji?" A gentle voice called to her, startling the butterflies and making them fly away. Yuyuko looked up from Her now empty hand and looked at the girl who stood at the gate leading into her backyard. Her hands were covered with white gloves and a light pink parasol in her hands. A violet dress perfectly fit her figure with a dark corset on her abdomen and her golden locks fell down on her body like a waterfall, a small hat perched on top of her head. Yuyuko looked at her curiously before she got up and went over to the girl on the other side of the fence.

"Yes, I am Yuyuko. Do you need something?" She asked curiously, her head tilting to the side a bit. A small laugh expelled from her lips as a smile formed on her rosy lips.

"Nothing particularly." She replied, the smile still on her lips as a gust of wind came through. "I just noticed that you were quite lonely and needed someone to talk to."

"Oh, thank you." Yuyuko said with a small smile. The two stayed outside and talked a little bit before the lady turned around and left. She watched her leave until she couldn't be seen until she turned back around and went inside her house. All she could think about was how mysterious she was, the lady was almost like something rare. Before falling asleep, Yuyuko let out a small sigh and thought about the mysterious woman once more.

The next day, while Yuyuko was tending to the garden in the backyard, the woman had cane back, and was in the same outfit as she was in yesterday. A smile was on her face as her white gloved hand rose and waved at her. Yuyuko smiled back at her and went over to the lady happily. For the past week, she had always came at the same time of the day, a smile on her face and the violet dress swaying in the wind. Yuyuko soon found herself waiting outside for her to come, happy that someone was finally treating her like a human and not a monster. At the end of the week, she found out that the girl's name was Yukari, which was a pretty name, in her opinion. Every day she came, she felt like she knew her more and more about her and trusted her even more, which was perfect. "Can I show you something...?" Yuyuko asked one day, opening her back gate to let Yukari in.

"Of course. What do you have to show me?" Yukari asked with a small smile as she walked in. She let out a small sigh as she led her to the giant tree in the center of the yard. Once she got closer, the tree came alive as the butterflies of death came from the branches and fluttered around her. They landed on her body and fingers and fluttered around her as she looked at the woman other across from her. And from there, Yuyuko explained about them, what they did, and all she knew about them. Yukari looked at them for a bit before a small smile formed on her lips and she came closer to the other. "You're not the only one like this." She whispered in her ear before pulling away and walking away.

The next day, Yukari and Yuyuko both sat outside on the porch while they talked like they did almost like everyday, but this time was different. Yuyuko watched the butterflies flutter around them and land on not only herself, but on Yukari. They landed on her fingers and crawled around before flying away. Only sometimes did she little red spots on her fingers, but she figured that it was only her imagination and it was nothing. "Yukari, What did you mean when you said that I'm not the only one?" She asked after a while, curious about the others reply from the other day. Yukari hummed a bit and closed her eyes for a while.

"Hey Yuyuko." Yukari said after a while, placing her hands down and looking at the one next to her.

"Yea?"

"Do you want to come over to my house?" She asked with a smile on her lips. Yuyuko looked at her before she looked at her and nodded. Yukari nodded a bit before she looked away from her and let out a small sigh. She lifted 2 fingers up and in a swift movement down, a gap opened up in front of them. Yukari smiled at her, since she looked quite surprised, and extended a hand out to her. "Let's go." She said softly. Yuyuko nodded and followed her through the gap.

When they stepped out of the gap, they were somewhere entirely different from where they were before. Trees and mountains surrounded the entire area as the sky was a brilliant light blue and the grass was a luscious green. It was quite a beautiful sight, Yuyuko had never seen anything like it. Yukari led her up the small wooden steps leading up to the house before opened the door and letting go of her hand. "Ran," She called, taking a step into the room as her eyes gazed around the area. "We have some company!" She explained.

"Okay Yukari-Sama!" A voice called out almost immediately Yukari yelled. And a few minutes after, a girl had scurried into the room and went up towards them with a welcoming smile. "Welcome to the Yakumo Household." She said with a bow. Yuyuko looked at her before thanking her softly. Ran had a little hat on with the shape of looked like ears, which startled her a bit. And what startled her the most was the 8 large, puffy tails behind her that moved and swayed on her their own.

Ran went out of the room while Yukari led her to the living room. She came back with some tea and sat down with them. Yukari then explained everything to her, making it as simple as possible. She was a yokai, a gap yokai to be exact. She was someone who could use gaps to move places or to go places without walking the long distances. Ran was her Shinigami, who was basically like her servant and went out to do things for her or to even go into town and getting things for her. She was also like a computer, like Yukari put it, and was extremely good at arithmetics. Yuyuko, to tell the full and honest truth, was really surprised about it. Not only do they have odd and quite unique abilities like her own, but they're yokai, enemies of the human race. But she didn't mind, she was happy to have met people unique like herself. When Yukari opened the gap to let her back home, Yuyuko gave her a hug before waving goodbye and leaving to her home.

Over the course of the next few weeks, Yuyuko became more aware of the things around her. Half of the things around her didn't bother her, but it worried her. Yukari didn't come as much anymore, but when she did it was only for a little while before she left. Whenever she went over to their house, Ran was sometimes usually the only one there while Yukari had to take care of business.

Yokai attacks were occurring around the city more than thy should have so her parents kept a closer eye on her than they had been, having her stay inside for most of them day and her sneaking out at night to talk to her yokai friend. Yuyuko then noticed that the little specks of red that she saw on Yukari's fingers when her butterflies landed and crawled on her fingers weren't her imagination, but they were actually biting her. She confronted her multiple times, but Yukari said that she didn't mind if they were and shrugged it off even though she winced
in pain every time they did that. It wasn't that long until she realized that she was putting her in pain.

She became her miserable as the days went on and as she was stuck inside. She acted like everything was okay, but Ran was able to see through her facade and confronted her about it many times. But even though, she couldn't accept the fact that she was putting her friend in trouble, putting her in harm every time they saw each other. The butterflies that slowly devoured Yukari, the guilt building up inside her, the concerned looked the kitsune gave her, the constant monitoring of her family. She was putting more pain onto her than any of them expected, she could be putting them in danger since human and yokai were enemies, and even killed each other at that. And so in the end, Yuyuko knew what she had to do.

Death was the only way to save Yukari.

That night Yuyuko swiftly walked into her room, her clothes following as she walked into the middle of small room. She let out a small sigh as she reached under her clothes and pulled out a shiny blade, her face reflecting on the sides. Is this really what she wanted? She couldn't deny that she was terrified, those many second thoughts that she had throughout the day. But, if it's for her sake, she was okay with going through with this. She let out a small sigh before she turned the tip of he blade towards her abdomen, thrusting it into her body and letting out a painful scream. Her eyes closed as her whole body trembled, her hands tightly latched on the handle as she stumbled backwards. Yuyuko let out small cries as she panted, looking at the shiny red liquid slip between her fingers and onto the floor beneath her before she fell to the ground.

She panted as she laid on the ground, her eyes looking down and watching the liquid pour out of her body. Her eyes closed for a second, but opened them not long after as she saw her smiling face and all the memories flooding to her mind. With a weak hand, she lightly put her hand in the puddle underneath her and moved her hand upwards, placing her blood covered finger down on the floor, moving her weak hand as she started to write her message. Yuyuko continued, moving slower and slower as the puddle grew bigger, her hand falling to the floor once she finished her message. A small smile grew on her lips as her vision started to blacken and she could barely feel the wound in her stomach. She let out a small sigh as she felt relieved, knowing that her love will be safe from the harmful power that's within her, feeling relived that she won't die from it. But oh the despair that she'll feel once she finds her, smiling at her like she did everyday. The pain, the hurt, the sorrow, but it was all for her sake. She smiled a bit as she closed her eyes and allowed her breath to go shallow. At least they'll reunite in her world soon...

Years later, Yukari walked along the gravel as she let out a small sigh. Chen was a pain now and days, she couldn't see why Ran adored her so much even though the little rascal created more things for her to do around the house. But she couldn't deny how she was a help during little things her and Ran did around the Gensokyo. Yukari let out another small sigh upon thinking about her as she walked around the house into the backyard. "Oh, you're here already?" A familiar voice came as a small smile formed on her lips.

"Well, you did ask me to come here early, Yuyuko." Yukari said with a small laugh. She went over to the other as Yuyuko got up from the porch and stood up to look at her friend. "Plus it would've been a shame I came all the way over here without eating something because you ate it all." Yukari teased.

"Well Youmu had me go out here so I didn't eat everything..." Yuyuko pouted as she puffed her cheeks out.

"Well it's a good thing that she did that." Yukari laughed as they went inside together.
