Chapter 9

A/N: In the picture is the Fallen Angel crest.

I casually strolled through Clover Town, hearing the Thunder Legion still following behind me. I'm really grateful to them for helping me out yesterday, but they don't have to follow me around like lost puppies.

I let out a sigh and glanced back at them. "You don't have to keep following me, you know."

"We've already been over this," Bixlow stated. "We're not leaving until we get a straight answer from you."

I stopped and turned toward them. "Then the answer is no. Now go home."

Bixlow grinned. "You can't fool me, baby! You don't really mean that!"

I groaned in annoyance and continued walking in silence. It wasn't long before I passed by a few people who were apparently waiting for a friend.

"Where is he? He should've been here days ago."

"Do you think he got lost or something?"

One of them sighed. "He just had to be a traveler. I hope he's alright."

I suddenly stopped upon seeing images flash through my mind. I see Web Valley. And a man who is trapped within the labyrinth. Without help, he won't make it out alive.

"Freya? You okay?"

The images faded away and I glanced over at Bixlow. "I had a vision. I need to go."

I quickly started walking away, hearing the trio follow me while Freed asked, "Where?"

I flashed him a mischievous grin and replied, "I guess you'll find out, won't you?"

Without another word, I managed to get my hands on a bottle of water. I was going to just steal it, but Bixlow insisted on paying for it.

He then asked me, "What's the water for?"

"What's it for? Tell us!" his babies demanded.

"Trust me, I need this," I told him.

I went toward the middle of town and stopped. I turned around to face the three wizards.

"Okay, guys, I can take care of this myself."

Evergreen blinked at me in confusion and asked, "What are you talking about?"

I sighed. "What I mean is, I don't need your help."

Bixlow grinned and crossed his arms. "Too bad, baby. We're not going anywhere."

"Too bad! So sad!"

"Shadow Wings," I quietly said.

Shadows rose up and formed black, wispy wings on my back. Seeing the surprised looks on the trio's faces caused me to smirk at them.

"Well good luck keeping up."

With that being said, my shadow-made wings lifted me off the ground and into the sky. Heh, no way they'll be able to catch me now. Looks like they don't have the option to tag along.

"Wait up, baby!"

The smirk on my face instantly disappeared and my eyes widened. I turned my head to see the trio behind me. They can fly?!

Bixlow stood on his babies while Freed and Evergreen had wings like me. I don't believe these three. There's no way to leave them behind, is there?

Bixlow came up beside me and asked, "So, where we heading?"

I sighed in defeat and simply said, "Web Valley."

"Mind telling us why?" Freed asked.

I shook my head slightly. "Nope. You'll just have to wait and see for yourselves."

We quickly flew over Clover Canyon and soon came to Web Valley. I flew a bit lower so I could scan the ground below us. Seeing all the cracks and crevices, I kept an eye out for the area from my vision.

I soon caught sight of the familiar X-shaped crevice I saw in my head. Once over it, I dove down between the narrow cracks in the ground. I could see a man sitting on the ground in defeat.

A huge smile spread across his face when he saw me. I quickly dove down and grabbed him before rising back up out of the crevice. I dropped him down on his feet and landed beside him.

With the Thunder Legion landing as well, I held out the bottle of water to the man. He gratefully took it and gulped down half the bottle. He then smiled kindly at me.

"You saved me! Thank you!"

I returned his smile and said, "It was no problem. It's what I do."

"If there's anything I can do to repay you, just name it."

"No, no, that's alright," I quickly told him. "That won't be necessary. You should get going though. Clover Town is just over that hill."

I pointed past him, watching as he glanced in that direction before smiling again. "Okay then, thanks again, miss."

I waved to him as he started walking away. "Don't fall into anymore crevices!"

"I won't!" he called back as he left.

He sure is a fast walker. He might just beat us back to Clover. I looked over at the trio to see them all staring at me.

"What?" I questioned.

Bixlow was the first to speak. "Freya, are you sure you don't want to join Fairy Tail?"

Freed quickly stated, "You do seem to have a knack for helping others. That's what we do in our guild."

Evergreen nodded in agreement. "You would fit right in."

I hung my head down and hugged my arms. "It's not that I don't want to, but I don't want to put an entire guild in danger because of me."

Bixlow came closer until he stood right in front of me. "You won't. Freya, you'll be safe at Fairy Tail. Just please come with us. I lost you once, I don't want to lose you again."

I looked up at him in slight surprise. I averted my gaze and bit my lip in thought. Should I really do this? Will I really be safe without putting everyone in danger? My vision from before came to mind again.

Fairy Tail in ruins. Bixlow and the others injured. But what if that vision really was wrong? What if Bixlow is right? I could finally have a real home, a place where I belong.

And he would be there with me. Bixlow, my first friend. I trust him. I slowly looked up at him again and gave a small smile.

"O-Okay. I want to join Fairy Tail."

Upon hearing my words, a huge grin spread across his face. "Alright! Then let's head back to Clover and catch a train to Magnolia!"

I couldn't help but giggle lightly at him. To see his mood instantly brighten at my simple answer makes me happy. He really wanted me to accept. The four of us flew back to Clover and patiently waited until the train to Magnolia arrived.

We climbed on and found some seats. I sat by the window with Bixlow beside me. Evergreen sat across from me with Freed next to her. With my chin resting on my palm, I quietly gazed out the window as the train left the station.

With the scenery passing by, I quietly began humming my mother's lullaby. A small smile crept across my lips as I hummed.

"That's a pretty song."

I stopped and looked over at Freed. "Thanks. That was a lullaby my mother used to sing to me. It's one of the only things I have left to remember her."

I hung my head down sadly. I suddenly felt Bixlow's hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him to see him smiling at me. Without having to say anything, I returned the gesture.

"So did your mother have the same abilities as you?" Evergreen suddenly asked.

I nodded. "Yeah. I inherited her shadow magic and her power to see future events."

"And what about this Draven character who's searching for you?" Freed questioned.

I took a quick glance at Bixlow in surprise. I guess he told them a bit about what I explained to him about my past. I frowned and gazed down at my lap, clenching my fists slightly.

"It doesn't matter because he's never going to find me," I replied.

Bixlow's hand, which still rested on my shoulder, slid down my arm and to my hand. Feeling his hand over mine eased my nerves.

I sighed and began explaining, "Draven was a friend of my mother's. He trained alongside her, and together, they mastered powerful spells. Once my mother passed on, he took me under his wing and taught me everything my mother knew."

I could see the fascination on Freed and Evergreen's faces as they listened intently. I took a deep breath before continuing my explanation.

"But then I saw a vision of Draven's true intentions. He planned to use my power to help him spread darkness over Fiore. So you see, I have no choice but to run. I cannot let him find me. Ever. If he does, then we will all be in trouble."

"He won't," Bixlow told me. "You'll be safe at Fairy Tail. We won't let him use you. I won't let him hurt you."

I looked up at him and smiled. I suddenly caught sight of a couple of men coming our way down the train car. My eyes widened when I saw the Fallen Angel crest on one of the men's shoulders.

I let out a quiet gasp and quickly pulled my hood up over my head. "Oh no! Hide me!"

"What's wrong?" Evergreen asked.

I nodded my head toward the men and quietly replied, "Those two are from Fallen Angel. No doubt they're looking for me."

I noticed a grin on Bixlow's face as he said, "Relax. They won't recognize you if you're with us. They're looking for a lone girl, not one in a group."

"He's got a point," Freed added.

I gave a small nod but still couldn't help but feel nervous. I watched the men come closer and closer. Bixlow surprised me by suddenly wrapping an arm around me and pulling me closer.

Before I could react, he lightly pushed my head against his shoulder and whispered, "Don't worry. We'll handle this."

I watched from under my hood as the two men soon stopped beside our seats. Their eyes seemed to scan over each of us and one of them narrowed their eyes.

"I see you're all wizards. Fairy Tail, I presume?"

"What of it?" Evergreen stated. "At least our guild is well known. I've never even seen your guild mark before."

The man laughed. "That's because our guild likes to stay hidden."

I noticed his eyes land on me. "Hey, you with the hood. Show your face."

I remained quiet and still, not knowing what to do. Bixlow seemed to grin at them as he kept his arm around me.

"You'll have to excuse my girlfriend, she's very shy!"

"Very shy! Very shy!"

As if to prove the point, I hugged Bixlow's arm and buried my face in his shoulder.

"Come on, dude. She can't be the one we're looking for," I heard the other man finally say.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Let's go."

I listened to their footsteps fade away before finally picking my head up and releasing Bixlow. "Thanks, guys."

Bixlow stuck out his tongue and grinned. "No problem, baby! I told you we'd handle it!"

"No problem! No problem!" his babies repeated.

"How come we've never heard of their guild before?" Freed asked.

"They're very secretive," I answered. "Most people have never heard of them. Apparently, they like to keep they're guild hidden."

"That's strange," Evergreen quietly added.

Bixlow suddenly shook his head and said, "Oh, never mind. It doesn't matter. Look, we'll soon be in Magnolia."

I quickly looked out the window to see the large town growing nearer. I grinned happily at the sight. There it is. My new home.
