Chapter 28

I stood alone in a dark, desolate wasteland. The cold gusts of wind blew my hair to the side. I stared out at the nothingness before me, my eyes wide with shock and fear.

"What do you think, my dear? Isn't it beautiful?"

I felt Draven's hand on my shoulder. I wanted to turn around to face him, but my body wouldn't let me. I was frozen in place.

Draven's maniacal laughter resonated in my ears. It was driving me crazy. I wanted to scream.

"Don't let him get to you."

Everything around me instantly stopped. I gasped, recognizing the voice behind me. The darkness quickly faded away to be replaced with a bright, dazzling light. I was finally able to move.

I slowly turned around to be met by my mother's smiling face. "M-Mother?"

"My sweet little Freya. Look how you've grown. You've come a long way since the day I had to leave you."

I couldn't stop from smiling and I felt tears of joy forming in my eyes. "I missed you, mother."

"Me too," she said, her smile quickly fading. "But this is no time for reminiscing. We have more important matters to discuss."

My smile turned into a frown and I slowly nodded. "You're right. For starters, how could you entrust Draven with my abilities? If you knew of his intentions, then why did you leave me with him?"

She sighed. "You still don't understand. It was your destiny, Freya. You saw the visions for yourself. You cannot change what is meant to-"

"Yes I can!" I yelled in slight anger. "I have been changing many of my visions! I've saved lives and helped people! I did what you couldn't! But then...why has this happened? Why couldn't I change my fate?"

My mother chuckled slightly. "Oh, Freya. You're thinking about it too much. Yes, you were able to change the lives of others, which is something I could not. But our destinies...cannot be altered. You and I are meant to play our roles."

I rubbed my arm uncomfortably. "So...is this it? Draven wins?"

"Not exactly." I looked at her in surprise as she explained, "You haven't seen all of the visions you were meant to see."

I stared at her in confusion. "What do you mean?"

She smiled again. "I'll explain from the beginning. When I was younger, I had many visions. I knew of Draven's plans all along. But with my death eminent, I knew I was not meant to intervene."

She came closer and placed a hand on my shoulder. "I foresaw all of this happening. You running. Draven taking everything from you. You helping him. I even saw...you stopping him."

My eyes widened again. "What...? How...?"

"One of the forbidden spells you inherited from me. Shadow Demon is the answer. This isn't the end of your story, Freya. You have a new family and someone who loves you dearly. Fight for them. You will succeed. Draven is not fated to win."

I smiled and hugged her. "Thank you, mother."

"Go now. You know what needs to be done. I love you, my darling daughter, and I will watch over you."

I slowly opened my eyes, seeing Bixlow beside me. "Freya, baby, you're finally awake. Are you okay?"

I lazily looked around, realizing I was in a hospital bed. My entire team was here, all of them looking at me with worry. I remembered my mother's words and shot up from my bed.

"I have to go! I have to stop him!"

Bixlow quickly grabbed my shoulders, halting my movements and gently pushing me back down. "Woah, take it easy, baby. You can't just get up and leave."

"But I have to," I said. "I have to stop Draven."

"It's already too late," Laxus sadly stated.

I glanced out the window, seeing a pitch black sky. "But it's not. I know what to do. I have to go."

I tried getting up again, but Bixlow once again stopped me. "Are you sure you're okay? You were out ever since you used that spell yesterday."

I looked at him in slight shock. "I was out for a whole day?"

They all nodded and Evergreen smirked and said, "Bixlow wouldn't leave your side for a second."

I looked straight at Bixlow, who simply grinned at me. "It's true. I stayed right here by your bed the whole time."

I couldn't help but smile at him. I leaned over and pecked his lips. His grin only seemed to widen and he wrapped me in a hug.

"Just don't ever run away again. I can't stand seeing something like that happen."

I pulled away to look at him. "Don't worry, I won't. But I really have to stop Draven. I know how."

I slowly got up out of bed, but as soon as my feet were on the floor, my legs felt weak and I nearly fell down. Luckily, Bixlow caught me and sat me back down.

"Relax, baby, Draven's not going anywhere. Get your strength back first before you go running off to save the day."

"Just relax! Just relax!" his babies echoed.

I sighed and gave a small smile. "Okay. You're right. I still haven't completely recovered yet."

I patiently waited. Bixlow brought me something to eat, which I hungrily scarfed down. All of us sat around, talking and resting. Once I felt I had recovered my strength, we set out.

I walked ahead of my team, watching as other members of our guild came out and began to follow. With everything covered in darkness, it was impossible to even tell if it was day or night.

I stopped before venturing out to where Draven was and looked back at everyone. "All of you wait here. I'll handle this."

Evergreen started coming closer. "But, Freya-"

Bixlow's arm shot out in front of the brunette, cutting her off and stopping her. "Freya's got this. We have to believe in her. She knows what she's doing."

I smiled slightly and said, "Thank you, Bixlow."

"Just promise me you'll come back," he said with a small grin.

I nodded. "I will. I promise."

I turned and left them all behind while making my way back to the place where I used my spell. When I got there, Draven stood facing me, as if knowing I would come back.

"Freya, my dear, did you have a nice rest?" he asked with a grin.

I didn't answer him. I noticed all the shadowy creatures that fixed their eyes on me. The creatures, they're similar to the ones that I create.

"Oh? Are you giving me the silent treatment?"

I ignored his questions. "Shadow Demon!"

The shadows rose up and covered my body. I towered over Draven, who seemed to ready himself for battle.

"You mean to fight me? In my world?"

For once, feeling myself in complete control, I laughed at his statement. "Your world?"

My voice came out deeper than I expected, but I continued to speak, "Look around. You really think this world is yours? You may have everything covered in darkness, but within the darkness, the shadows reside. This is my world, Draven."

I lunged at him, swiping my claws at him. He quickly dodged and jumped back away from me.

"Dark Delete!"

I stood there, allowing his attack to bounce off my shadow body. I chuckled at him, for the first time, seeing fear in his expression.

"How pathetic," I said. "You of all people should know that this form cannot be harmed."

I leapt at him again, continuously swiping at him. He dodged all of my attacks, but I then saw an opening. I grabbed him, wrapping my claws around his throat and lifting him up to my six red eyes.

"You were a fool to think that you could simply use my power and rule over this dark world. You should just accept your fate. Or would you prefer to try and escape it like I once tried?"

Draven suddenly brought his foot up and kicked me in the face. He then broke free from my grip and backed away again. I shook off the sudden blow to my face and growled at him.

"Why fight it? You said it yourself, you cannot escape your fate. You are destined to fall before me. That is what my mother foresaw all along."

"Y-You're wrong. You told me that your vision was of all this. That the two of us succeeded," he said, his voice trembling.

"It's true. That is what I saw. But my mother saw more. She knew this day would come. She knew that you would fail. Now it's time to finish you."

I felt another power inside me. A spell I'd never learned. It's as if my mother is here, helping me to fulfill my role. I held out both my hands and slowly began forming a square in front of me.

"Gate of Shadows!"

A square, portal-like door opened up in front of me. Inside, numerous shadowy beings with glowing red eyes could be seen.

"Go, my shadows! Drag him into the world he so desperately desires!"

At my command, every shadowy creature turned its gaze to Draven. They stalked towards him. I watched in amusement as he threw spell after spell at them in an attempt to fight them off.

They ignored his attacks and grabbed him. He struggled and cried out for help, but I simply watched the dark beasts slowly drag him into the portal. Each of them followed in after him before the portal finally closed.

Everything suddenly became quiet. Seeing the darkness overhead finally beginning to fade, I let my shadowy body disperse. I fell back onto the ground, my body once again drained of magic energy.

I suddenly heard footsteps quickly approaching. Bixlow came into view. He crouched down and lifted my head up while smiling down at me.

I managed a weak smile and tiredly said, "Bixlow...I did it... It's finally over."

"I know," he replied. "I'm so proud of you. You saved Magnolia, and probably all of Fiore. You can finally rest easy now."

He held me, letting me rest my head against his chest. I closed my eyes, finally feeling myself relax, knowing that everything was going to be alright.

~~~~
Things were finally going back to normal. The sky was clear of all darkness. The people of Magnolia were once again out and about, living their lives.
Master Makarov was quite shocked when he returned. So much had happened in the few days he had been gone.
I was relieved that everyone from the guild had recovered from Draven's attack. Fairy Tail had been rebuilt as well, with a few things added in for the entertainment of the guild's members.
Now that Draven is gone, I can finally relax. I don't have to worry about my friends being in danger because of me.
I sat out on a grassy hill, staring out at the sunset. The cool breeze blew, causing the blades of grass around me to sway.
I smiled and spoke softly, "Thank you, mother. I couldn't have done all of this without you."
"Hey, Freya, come on!"
I turned my head, seeing Bixlow standing a small distance down the hill. I smiled to myself and quickly stood, rushing down to meet him.
"Sorry, Bixlow. I forgot that you wanted to take me out tonight."
"No problem, baby. Did you still want to go back to Onibus tomorrow to visit Milo?"
I eagerly nodded. "Yeah, I'd like to see how he's doing."
"Alright then. Anything for you, baby."
He grinned and wrapped his arms around me, kissing my lips. I returned his kiss before pulling away.
"Love you, baby."
"Love you too, Bixlow," I replied with a small giggle.
With his arm around my waist, he walked me back toward Magnolia. Looks like my future has a happy ending after all.
