Chapter 2
A/N: In the picture is what Freya looks like.
I woke up the next morning to something poking my shoulder. I slowly opened my eyes to see Milo's grinning face in front of me. I propped up on my elbow and yawned.
"Hey, Freya, time to wake up. Breakfast is ready."
I smiled at the boy and sniffed the air. "I can tell. It sure smells good."
Milo began tugging on my hand, forcing me to get up and follow him. He led me to the kitchen and sat me down beside him. Isla placed a plate in front of me before sitting beside Liam.
"Good morning, Freya," she said. "Did you sleep okay last night?"
I smiled and nodded. "I slept great. Thanks again for letting me stay."
"It was no problem," Liam replied.
"I guess I'll be leaving today then."
"Aww, do you have to?! Can't you stay a little longer?!" Milo whined.
I blinked at him. "Well...I really should get going soon."
"Come on, Freya," Isla chimed in. "You're welcome to stay longer if you like. We enjoy the company, right, honey?"
Liam quickly nodded in agreement. I took a moment to think, staring down at my food. Should I really be staying? I don't want to put this family in danger. But it should take some time for anyone to track me down again.
I finally looked up at them again and smiled. "I suppose I could stay a bit longer."
Milo jumped up in joy. "Yaaaayyy!"
I giggled at him and we finished our breakfast. Milo took me back to the living room where he grabbed a piece of paper and showed it to me.
"Look, Freya, you were sleeping for so long that I drew you in your sleep!"
I smiled and gazed at the picture. "Wow, what a lovely picture. You did a great job, Milo. It looks just like me."
His cheeks were tinted pink and he grinned up at me. "It was easy because you're so pretty. If I find something pretty, it's easier for me to draw."
I giggled and crouched down to look at him. "That's so sweet. Thank you."
I pat him on the head and stood up. I noticed Isla sitting in a nearby chair, smiling as she glanced at us and mixed spices and plants in a bowl. I grabbed my cloak and fastened it around me.
"Hey, Isla, I'm going into Onibus for a while. I'll be back later."
She looked at me in slight confusion. "Sure. What are you going to be doing?"
"Nothing much. Just looking around, seeing if there's anyone who needs my help."
She smiled. "You're such a kind wizard. If only there were more people like you out there."
I suddenly felt a hand take mine and looked down at Milo. "Come back real soon, okay?"
"Don't worry, I will."
I left the small house, seeing Liam gathering plants a small distance away. He hadn't noticed me so I decided not to bother him. I lifted my hood over my head, hiding my face as I headed out of the woods and into the town.
I passed by many people. Some of them gave me strange looks while others didn't even notice me. I began thinking to myself again. I wish I had a way to thank Isla and her family for taking me in and being so kind to me.
They seem to be pretty poor. I could tell by their clothes and things. Maybe I could get them something. I looked around and noticed a small jewelry store.
I looked in the window and spotted a beautiful necklace. It had a large, green gem on a silver chain with two smaller red gems on either side of it. For some reason, it reminded me of Isla.
I went into the small shop and was instantly greeted by a small man. I remained quiet and didn't really pay him any attention. I simply went over and stared down at the necklace.
The price on it was 2,000,000 jewels. That's quite expensive, and yet I don't have a single jewel. No way any poor person could afford something like this, and it's not like a rich person needs it anyway.
I narrowed my eyes slightly and picked up the necklace. I turned and headed for the door when I heard the man shout at me.
"Hey! You have to pay for that first!"
I ignored him and quickly left the shop and darted down the street. "Someone catch her! She stole my jewelry!"
I continued running and turned, going down an alley. I quickly faded into the shadows, escaping my pursuers. I traveled along down a few streets before emerging on the roof of a building.
I looked down at the necklace in my hand and smiled. Isla's going to love this. I've always been a bit of a thief, but that's because I don't have any money for food or anything. If it's going to someone who needs it, then I don't consider it bad to steal.
A small commotion brought my attention to a large building. There were crowds of people going in. Feeling curious, I went back into the shadows and snuck my way inside.
I found myself inside a large theater. People flooded inside to find seats. I came out from the shadows and sat down with a small shrug. Might as well see what this is all about.
I sat through a 40 minute play that I didn't understand at all. Random characters would pop up, lines didn't make sense, and I'm pretty sure one guy wet his pants from stage fright.
After leaving the theater, I walked down the street and muttered to myself, "Well that was 40 minutes wasted. At least I got in for free."
Upon seeing the sun beginning to set, I headed back out to the woods and to the small house. I went inside to see Isla in the kitchen washing dishes. I removed my cloak and set it down. I glanced around before going over to her.
"I'm back, Isla. Where's Milo?"
She turned her head and smiled at me. "Welcome back, Freya. Milo wasn't feeling too well so he's resting and Liam is looking after him."
My eyes widened slightly. "What happened? Is he okay?"
She kept a smile on her face as she dried her hands and replied, "Don't worry, he's fine. This happens all the time. He's got a small fever and a stomach ache. Liam's upstairs with him now."
I then remembered the necklace in my hand and held it out to Isla. "Here, this is for you. It's my way of saying thanks for taking me in."
She gasped and her eyes grew wide. She carefully took it from me, gazing down at it before smiling.
"It's beautiful, Freya! But how did you get this? I didn't think you had any money."
I nervously rubbed my arm. "Uh, w-well, I don't. I kind of...took it."
She frowned at me. "Freya! You shouldn't steal things!"
"I know, I know, but I just had to. Besides, someone who could afford it doesn't even need it."
She sighed and said, "Freya...thank you."
She flashed me a quick, small smile. I then headed upstairs to see Milo lying in his bed with Liam sitting beside him. I slowly approached them, seeing Milo fix his gaze on me and smile weakly.
"Freya...you're back."
I smiled down at the boy. "I told you I would, didn't I?"
He nodded while Liam stood from his seat and pat me on the shoulder. "Why don't you stay with him for a while, Freya? At least until he falls asleep."
"I'd be happy to."
I watched Liam leave the room and I sat down in his seat next to Milo. Milo gazed up at me, causing me to smile slightly.
"Did you get to see what Onibus Town was like?" he asked.
I nodded and replied, "I did. I even got to see a play."
"Really?"
"Yep. It was really weird and I didn't understand it one bit."
He started laughing a little. "That's funny."
"Why don't you get some rest, Milo. You'll feel better tomorrow."
"Could you tell me a story first?"
"I don't really know any stories."
"Please? It'll help me sleep."
I thought for a minute before smiling. "Alright. Just one story. Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was born with an amazing gift. She was able to see into the future."
Milo's eyes widened slightly. "Now this girl could also use magic and trained to master it. She learned ancient and powerful spells that could change the world. But then she had a terrible vision."
I could see the fascination in Milo's tired eyes as he listened to every word. "A vision about herself. Those powerful spells she learned would be used for evil. She would one day use them to bring darkness across Fiore. Not wanting this to happen, the girl ran. She hid herself away in an attempt to avoid the disaster she foresaw."
"Then what happened?"
"She continued to run and hide until the day she died. She took those ancient spells with her to her grave so that no one could bring about the disaster she foresaw. The end."
Milo suddenly frowned slightly. "I don't like the way it ended."
I giggled at him and asked, "Well how would you like the story to end?"
"I think instead of dying, someone came along and saved her, setting her free from the one's who wanted to use her magic for evil."
My eyes were wide and my mouth hung open slightly by what he said. Save her and set her free? I quickly shook the thoughts from my head and pulled the blankets over Milo.
"Now rest up, Milo. You'll feel better soon."
He gave a tired smile and closed his eyes. I quietly stood up and headed for the door. I looked back at him one more time before shutting the door behind me and leaving him to rest.
