Chapter 19
I walked along on the outskirts of Magnolia, enjoying the nice weather while I stretched my legs and thought about what kind of job I should take on next.
Hmm, should I pick out something simple? Nah, I'm tired of all those easy jobs. Maybe I'll ask Laxus to bring me on an S-class mission. And I'm sure Bixlow and the others would want to go too.
I was suddenly snapped out of my thoughts by a thin wave of water whisking past my face. I stopped and watched as not only water, but also sand began swirling around in the air.
The sand and water slowly formed a couple of shapes in front of me. It was two girls, twins it seemed like. They looked identical except for their clothes.
One had a blue and white colored outfit while the other was clad in white, yellow, and orange colors. They both looked me up and down before looking at each other.
"Do you think this is her, Isako?" the one in blue asked.
The one in yellow answered, "I think so, Umiko."
So the one who controls water is Umiko, the one in blue. Then the one in yellow, who controls sand, is Isako. They're twins, and now I can see the Fallen Angel crest on the tops of their hands.
I quickly turned and ran. I could fight them, but I don't want to put any innocent people in danger. I need to get back to Fairy Tail. The others can help.
"Hey, where's she going, sis?!"
"I don't know, but we can't let her get away!"
I glanced back at them to see them following me. With these two girl's playful demeanor, I don't know whether they're toying with me or if they're just like that.
"Hey, can we stop running and just fight now, please?!"
"Come on, you've gotta be tougher than that, Isako! Water Slicer!"
"Oh, right! Sand Slash!"
I looked back to see the attacks coming at me. I quickly dodged them and went into the shadows, moving up the side of a building and onto a rooftop.
"Oooh, we can do that too! Let's go, Umiko!"
Their bodies turned completely into sand and water and whisked through the air and onto the roof. When they reappeared, I took off again, jumping to another roof.
With the two still chasing after me, I stopped momentarily to attack. "Shadow Sphere!"
I sent multiple dark orbs at them, but Isako quickly stepped in front of her sister. "Sand Wall!"
A wall of sand rose up in front of them, blocking my spheres. I quickly turned and jumped onto the next roof.
"Shadow Wings."
My black wings lifted me up and into the air. Hah, no way they can catch me now.
"Water Cane!"
I immediately felt something grab my ankle, stopping me midair. I looked back to see Umiko with a water whip made from her hand. She used it to yank me right out of the air.
I hit the roof with a thud, groaning in pain while my wings dispersed. With my hands against the rooftop, I used my next attack.
"Shadow Orochi!"
My shadowy snakes shot at the girls while biting through the water whip. Now free, I stood, and with the twins now fighting off my snakes, I charged toward them.
"Shadow Claws."
I slashed both of them as I passed them. Instead of stopping, I ran and jumped down onto the ground below. Now hearing people screaming and running, I continued onward.
I noticed the girls take down my snakes and begin pursuing me once again. The three of us continued with our attacks while dodging and running. I don't know about those two, but I'm running out of energy.
Fairy Tail was now in sight, but I didn't know if I'd make it all the way there. I decided to stop and catch my breath while facing the two girls.
"Alright, I've had enough of you two," I told them. "I won't let you make a mess of this place. It's time to end this."
Bixlow's pov
I talked with Freed and Evergreen while waiting for Freya to get back. She said she was going for a quick walk to think about what kind of job she wanted to take next.
I figured it wouldn't take long, so I let her go and patiently waited for her return. The cheery atmosphere in the guild hall was abruptly interrupted by a man barging through the front doors.
"Someone help! There's a fight going on in the streets!"
Freya was instantly the first person to pop into my mind. I, along with everyone else, got up and rushed outside. Not far from the guild, Freya fought against a couple of mages.
Before anyone could even react, a dome of darkness spread over the area. That's Freya's Shadow Eclipse spell. I watched in amazement as the shadows within the dome began to swirl around her.
"Shadow Demon!" she yelled.
The shadows instantly started covering her body until a wispy, black beast was standing in her place. With large, clawed feet and hands, six red, glowing eyes, and a mouth full of sharp, white teeth, she definitely resembled a demon.
She let out a roar at the two opposing wizards, who both seemed to jump back in fear. I watched with wide eyes as she stalked toward the girls.
The twins sent a barrage of attacks at Freya, but they didn't seem to affect her at all. Freya continued her advance toward her targets, completely unfazed by their magic.
Once close enough, Freya leapt at the girls. They both dodged, but Freya turned and caught one of them in her large claws. The girl squirmed to get out of her grasp, but Freya didn't let go.
Instead, she flung the girl clear across the street and into the side of a building. The other mage moved around and jumped onto Freya's back. She immediately went into a frenzy of trying to shake or claw at the girl on her back.
Unable to get her off, she finally stopped and flopped down onto her back, crushing the girl under her weight. Freya then got up and pressed a foot on top of the dazed girl.
Freya then clawed away at the girl until she looked like she had been attacked by a wyvern. Freya would never do something like that. What's gotten into her?
After letting out a triumphant roar, Freya looked around, snarling and snapping her jaws. She soon set her sights on all of us and slowly came toward us.
Master Makarov stepped in front of us and said, "Freya! That's enough! The battle is over!"
Despite the master's words, Freya growled even louder than before. Everyone, including myself, remained silent and frozen in place. Makarov suddenly let out a sigh.
"Sorry to do this, but you leave me no choice."
Master Makarov held up his hand and formed a bright orb of light in his palm. Freya immediately hissed and backed away while covering her eyes.
Makarov moved toward her only for her to start letting out painful roars. The shadows began to disperse while Freya's roars turned into screams. Soon enough, the shadowy form that enveloped her body was gone.
With Makarov's light fading, Freya collapsed on the ground, still covering her eyes. She finally removed her hands to show tears running down her face.
"I'm sorry," she quietly said. "I'm so sorry. I didn't want to hurt anyone."
I slowly approached her and crouched down. She looked completely wiped out, like she could pass out at any moment. Makarov suddenly came over and stood beside me.
"It's alright, Freya. We all make mistakes. That doesn't change that you are a member of Fairy Tail and one of my children."
She seemed to smile at his words before passing out. I carefully sat her up as the others began rushing over. Evergreen was one of the first to speak.
"Freya needs to get some rest. I can take her back to-"
"Actually," I interrupted while lifting Freya up into my arms, "I'll take her back to my place."
Evergreen simply blinked at me. "You sure?"
I glanced down at Freya before nodding. "Yeah. Don't worry, I'll take care of her."
She hesitantly nodded. I turned to head home and saw that the twin wizards were gone. I did notice, however, sand and water whisking through the air away from Magnolia. I silently left everyone at the guild and headed to my home.
Freya's pov
My eyes fluttered open and I slowly sat up. I looked around in confusion. Where am I? I was lying on a bed in a room I'd never seen before.
I suddenly heard the sound of the door opening and turned my head to see Bixlow poking his head in. "Bixlow?"
He slowly came in with a small smile on his face. "Freya, you're up. How are you feeling, baby?"
I returned his smile and replied, "I'm okay. Where are we?"
"My house," he answered simply. "Wanna explain to me what happened out there?"
He sat down on the bed next to me. I frowned and looked down sadly.
"I...I lost control again. Every time I use Shadow Demon, I lose control and I become a...a monster. I don't know why I was so eager to use it. I should've just fought those two like normal, but...I don't know. It's like something was urging me to use that spell. If only I could control it."
"Hey, don't worry about it, baby," he said while placing a hand on my shoulder. "Certain spells take lots of practice to master. I'm sure you'll gain control over it sooner or later."
I smiled over at him. "You're right. Thanks, Bixlow. I guess I'll head back to Fairy Hills then."
Bixlow quietly nodded and we both stood and left the room. I went downstairs to the front door, placing my hand on the knob.
"Freya, wait."
I turned my head and looked at Bixlow. "Yes?"
"Uh...w-well..." I noticed his face turning red as he spoke. "I-I...um..."
After a bit of stuttering, he finally let out a sigh and said, "It's nothing, never mind. Have a good night, baby."
I thought his behavior seemed odd, but I decided to just go along with it and smiled instead. "You too, Bixlow. See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow!" his babies echoed.
I left Bixlow's house with a small smile on my face. I wonder what he was going to say to me. It must've been something good by the way he got all flustered like that. I can only imagine the possibilities.
