87.

At 5:40 that morning, Jin first felt the shake coming from outside of the submersible.

But he didn't move a bit.
He was there.
Sitting.
With Arya's body inside his arms, her head still resting on his chest.

He didn't move, he didn't blink.
Probably he wasn't breathing either.
Nothing touched him anymore.
When the mechanical four arms of the twin submersible locked Jin's submersible and used two powerful thrusters to pull it up, Jin was still sitting without any realization.

Or maybe he just didn't care anything anymore.

They pulled the submersible up on the surface about an hour later.
The zodiac was waiting in the water with Namjoon and Hoseok in it.

As soon as the submersible surfaced, Jimin came running up in the dock.
He was operating the automated submersible from the control room all this time.

Namjoon banged on the hatchway as soon as the zodiac was near the submersible, "hyung?"

There was no response from the inside.

Namjoon tried a few more times.

The last hope of two of the people trapped inside still being alive was slowly fading away.

"Move aside!"
A strong voice shouted from behind.

Namjoon looked back with a stone-faced Hoseok beside him.

The second zodiac was down in the water.
And a weak but determined-looking Jungkook was there with a worried Taehyung on it.

The second zodiac also docked beside the submersible.

Jungkook climbed up to the hatchway.
"Hope you are ok, hyung. We are coming in!"

No response.

Jungkook nodded to the crews of the zodiac and they handed him the saw cutter.
He was weak, but he still tried to use it until Taehyung took it from him and started to cut the hatchway.

Within minutes, Namjoon and Hoseok joined in.

The hard hatchway took time to cut in.
When everyone was dripping in sweat, the final blow from Namjoon broke the lock and the hatchway sprang open.

Jungkook didn't wait for a second more and went in.
Taehyung and Hoseok followed.

The inside of the Submersible wasn't that spacious.
After three of them went in, there were hardly any spaces left to stand.

As soon as Jungkook stopped, Taehyung almost crashed in his back and cursed, "What?"

Jungkook didn't say anything.
Taehyung peeked from his behind and he also fell silent.

"What?" Hoseok this time pushed them both and came forward.

Seeing Jin just sitting there, a sigh of relief washed through him and he frowned immediately.

"What the hell were you doing, hyung? Why didn't you open the hatch from the inside?" his voice raised an octave.

Jin didn't move.

"Hyung?" Hoseok's voice suddenly came to a stop seeing Arya in Jin's arms.

She was as beautiful as ever.

That fair skin under the touseled hair and high arched brows were spotless. Her mischievous eyes were closed, and so was her smile.

But she looked peaceful.
As if she was sleeping.

Hoseok fell on his knees as if there were no strength left in his body anymore.

His hand was trembling when it carefully tried to reach Arya and slowly touched her hand.

Cold.

His best friend lay there.
Cold and dead.

"Hyung?"
This time Namjoon's voice came through the hatchway, "what are you doing inside?"

Taehyung was going to say something back to Namjoon but Jin's voice beat him to it.

His voice was soft and calm and full of tranquility that no one expected to hear from him now, "It is ok. Let's go."

Hoseok was still there, helplessly leaning against the wall of the submersible, unable to comprehend any words. Just his palms were shutting his mouth hard to prevent him from yelling in agony. But the shaking of his body wasn't invisible to others.

"I am sorry!" Jin's voice was clear as he calmly put down Arya's head on the floor carefully.
His words were calmly thrown at Hoseok, "Sorry I couldn't save her."

Half an hour later, Jin climbed up in the deck of Haenyo with everyone following him one by one.

It was Yoongi who took Jin for a hug first. Jin stayed calm and silent and even patted Yoongi a few times to wear off his worry.

But before even half a minute passed,  Yoongi was yanked away from Jin and a hard punch landed on Jin's face.

And there followed a cursing and crying Jimin taking him for a desperate embrace.
His hands mercilessly hit Jin and cried as he grabbed his collars and shook him, "Don't you ever do that to me! You hear that? If you ever do that to me..."

"Jimin..." Jin started but he was shut by the furious younger who was a crying mess right now. Jim has held back up until now like a stone-cold professional, but this time he had to unload the baggage Jin left with him.

"Don't you ever make me promise you something like that again! Do you hear me? You are such a..."

"Shhh." Jin calmly shushed him with slight assuring pats over his head, "I promise I won't ask you to do something like that ever again."

"That was cruel," Jimin complained burying his face in Jin's chest and Jin hid a sigh.

Namjoon wrapped Jin in an overcoat and patted on his back but didn't try to say anything.

Nobody was saying any words and when Jungkook softly spoke, "hyung, you ok?"

"Mnn," Jin said as his eyes fixed on the horizon.

The sky was still dark with a mild breeze sweeping over everyone. Sign of a day ahead was there on the horizon as the first light of the dawn was about to break through the fogs.

Medics from the Haenyo went inside the submersible to retrieve Arya's body. Namjoon strictly instructed them to take care of that until they get back to shore.

"Should we leave you alone?" Taehyung asked softly. He was holding Jungkook close as the younger one was barely able to hold himself on his feet.

A shout from the hatchway of the submersible came.
Someone was shouting orders for others.

Jin's eyes were traveling elsewhere as if his thoughts traveled for some unknown destination. All the sounds around him seemed muffled and distant and he closed his eyes.
He needed to take back the control that he lost.
He can't break down like this.

"We got her." The shouts were making a bit sense now.

Did they get here? Jin sighed a little. At least she didn't have to be down there for eternity!

"Medic!"

Jin bit his lips. He should be strong.
But he didn't know how.

The shout from the hatchway this time was urgent, "hurry up! We got the girl alive here!"

Jin stilled.

And a second later, he dropped to his knees.
Jungkook freed himself from Taehyung's arms and thumped down beside Jin and enclosed him in a tight hug.

"We need blood here! Warm saline and blood!" someone shouted from distance and rushed footsteps were reverving everywhere on the deck.

And in Jungkook's embrace, Jin finally cried.

He cried like a torn man sinking deeper every passing second.

The boys within moments encircled both the entangled body on the deck facing the opposite direction.

A team of maintenance crews was coming this way and Yoongi blocked them casually, "sorry, wrong way."

"But it is the way!" The crew frowned.

"Not today," Yoongi shrugged a little, "use the other way around."

"But..."

"Tell everyone to not come here until I say so." Jimin's voice was heard.

"Aye, sir!" The crews went away, confused.

The boys were silent.
Their expressionless faces this time didn't show any traces of emotions as they kept on blocking the road in an unspoken understanding diligently encircling their broken hyung in the middle pretending as if they weren't hearing anything.

The first light of dawn as well as the mild breeze blew over six boys as they waited for the man to let it all out calmly and watched the zodiac take Arya inside the Haenyo in an urgent rush.

Joys of living or worries of dying were long lost between the souls in the deck when it all came down to the fear they shared.

Losing someone you love.
And they didn't want that.

Not with Jin.
