8.
Slight violence ahead:
Jin was sitting on the stairs of the club for some time being. Chaos and the smell of liquor were coming from inside. Yellow light was coming out from the skylight of the basement behind him.
Anybody who would see him would take him as a useless, depressed addict at this hour of the night.
He was waiting. He sent a letter to the address with the code given by Namjoon. That girl, code name AA3, should know the code. If she was still willing to contact NIS, she would come to meet him. If she doesn't, he would have to assume that she is willing to stay put and betray NIS.
In the latter case, he would have to go for some methods to extract the information from her, and if he succeeded, the next thing he would have to do is not pleasant to him.
Killing was never a pleasure.
But judging by her experience and previous work, it's obvious that she was highly trained and an excellent agent. It would be a great help if he could gather more information about her.
It's not likely she will yield to the torture methods he'd have to perform to extract that information easily if she doesn't cooperate.
He looked at his watch. It's late. This area of the town is for the poor. The club he was sitting in front of was probably one of those illegal outlets. Very few numbers of street lights were spreading yellowish sodium light weakly trying to eradicate the darkness of the night.
Except for the crowd inside the club, the street was almost vacant.
A motorcycle stopped in front of him suddenly. It came out of nowhere almost crashing in front of the stairs at a recklessly ridiculous speed.
"AA3?" Jin got up from the stairs.
She threw a crunched paper ball towards him, "You are the one who sent it?"
Jin stopped moving. Where did he hear the voice? Why it was so familiar?
"And every fair from fair sometime declines-?"
Her voice was commanding.
Jin understood she was verifying his identity. He should answer now.
Back in his head, he started to shuffle the famous poem, what should he respond with? the next line? Or the previous line? Why she is verifying him in the first place? She is acting like he should know the answer.
She was waiting.
"AA3..."
The girl put off the helmet from her head and asked in a rough voice again, "And every fair from fair sometime declines-??"
Jin saw the face in almost dim light.
Jin looked at the face for a moment.
Dishelved, rough hair, unusually stiff face with a tinge of stubborn seriousness. Cruelty was peeking into the corners of her lips pressed against each other into a thin line. There was an unusual kind of stubbornness and confidence in the eyes. At first glance, this girl seems to be a cold-blooded killer anytime.
But that didn't make Jin froze.
For the first time in his life, he was out of words. He struggled a few seconds for words and could finally let out a sound, slightly stuttering,
"A...Arya?!!!"
"Who sent you?" Her voice was cold yet impatient. No signs of familiarity were seen in her eyes.
"Arya??!!!" Jin again could manage to speak, but only this much.
The very next moment the girl pulled out a gun from her biker jacket and shot Jin.
Jin put down the scissors to the basin and poured down the antiseptic solution to the wound on his flank. He gritted his teeth and grabbed the edge of the basin letting the burning sensation subside slowly.
He still grabbed the edge of the basin turning his knuckles pale slowly even after the burn became bearable. He stared at his reflection for some time and slowly cleaned the wound. After securing the wound with a bandage, he shoved the medical supplies in the waste paper bin.
He came back from the bathroom and sat down on the bed.
He needed answers. To a lot of things. He took out the LRAC device and started to encrypt a message.
He texed for a background check for Arya in this country to the sleeper agent assigned here.
"The Beretta, .22 caliber," Jin remembered. Libya doesn't allow Beretta. Even the black market doesn't sell Beretta here, especially the .22 caliber in specific. Why she was carrying this special gun? How did she get her hands on one? She doesn't live well off here. How did she afford this expensive gun in the first place?
Most importantly, why did she shoot him?
He closed his eyes lying on the bed. He needed sleep. Longs days are ahead, he could feel it.
But for the first time in a long time, he couldn't sleep that night.
He got up after a long while with the beeping of LRAC. The agent sent him the information he could gather on Arya.
Jin slowly read through the lines on the screen.
The girl was Aira Armin. A Japanese- Libyan in origin. Works full time in the local cyber cafe. lives in a compact apartment. She has the luxurious hobby of practicing shooting almost every day in the city shooting club.
This was a general identity she picked up here.
Jin went through the next passages what the agent could gather about her past and shadow life.
She surfaced in Libya not more than two weeks ago. Before that, she was seen in different cities in Israel. She was admitted to a local hospital in the remote city of Palestine. But she was received by some people demanding themselves as her "relatives". They had every document they needed to prove their attachment with Arya. They received her and transferred her to one of the best neurology specialized hospitals in Israel.
After getting released from the hospital after almost six months, Arya got arrested by the local police and spent three months in prison in solitary confinement.
But it is still unknown why she got arrested. Later when she was released, she got involved with cybercrime and hacking. But surprisingly she wasn't arrested anymore after that one time.
Medical records say she is acrophobic, insomniac, and was prescribed high doses of antidepressants and antianxiety drugs.
She vanished from Israel suddenly eight months ago.
Jin let out a breath. Her behavior, the indifferent looks in her eyes, and not recognizing Jin or the words she was uttering to get a response, and the overly sensitive paranoid behavior which led her to shoot him- everything seemed to fall into the pieces of the puzzle.
Neuro hospital? That makes sense of everything.
And .22 caliber Beretta? It is the signature gun used by Israeli intelligence, in specific, MOSSAD.
The call was received after some time in the secured line.
"What?" The operator's voice was calm.
"The grey wolf," Jin replied.
The call was immediately transferred to a specific person.
"Hyung," Namjoon's voice came through.
"She is an agent. A MOSSAD agent."
"Explain," Namjoon's voice was calm.
"She survived the plane crash somehow, was taken into a hospital in Palestine. MOSSAD extracted her from there, brought her in for better treatment. She was detained after she was released, probably they trained her at that time.
She started to work for them, they probably convinced her that she was a MOSSAD agent even before the accident."
"Why would she? She knows she is not part of MOSSAD."
"They took her to neuro hospital. Probably she is suffering from retrograde amnesia. That explains why she doesn't recognize me."
"And?"
"She probably fled from Israel, ditched MOSSAD. That explains why MOSSAD is after her and why she is paranoid. She expected me to be a MOSSAD agent who came to retrieve her and that's why she asked me for the code to verify my identity. When she realized that I am not from MOSSAD, she shot me."
"She shot you, hyung!?" Namjoon was surprised, Jin is not someone who could get shot that easily.
"Trace Israel's involvement. Why they made one of our agents into one of theirs? If it was because they want the documents too, what is their interest here? Why the documents concerning particularly our two nations concern them too?"
"On it," Namjoon added hesitatingly,
"Now what about her?"
"If she is amnesic, there's no way we'd be able to know the whereabouts of the documents or not there is any possibility of her spilling our secrets to other intelligent. I'd keep an eye on her for some days, if she seemed harmless, I'd leave her be."
"Second option?"
Jin was silent.
"Hyung?"
"If I leave her here only because she is of no use now to us, MOSSAD will get her. We don't know what will they do to her if they can catch her. But we can imagine."
"So you won't let her be there like that? What do you want to do, hyung?"
"I'll bring her back."
Namjoon let out a sigh. He guessed it already and once again, he was right.
Jin would not kill her. There was no way.
He waited for Jin's questions though he knew Jin wouldn't.
"Hyung, do you want to know anything? About her? About why did she...?"
"No." His voice was indifferent and scarily, Cold.
