52.
You can't." Jin's voice was indifferent.
"Listen to yourself." Arya rolled her eyes.
"Uh-hm."
"You don't believe, right?" Arya chuckled.
Jin just shrugged, he was busy strapping the harness belt of the parachute.
Arya checked her harness and looked at Jin, "let's make a bet."
"With what? You have nothing to offer me."
"Look at you, throwing shades!" Arya chuckled again, "let's say, If I can land it properly, you'll give me one day off."
"And if you can't?"
"Anything you want."
"Anything?" Jin raised one brow.
"Anything appropriate," Arya added and wondered why she had to add that.
It's not like Jin would ask anything out of his way.
"Ninjutsu. Six sessions. Basic."
Jin decided.
"Ya! That's cheating!" Arya exclaimed, "I just wanted one day off and you are expecting me to do a full six sessions? Unfair!"
"Worried that I might win?" Jin's voice was hinting a little mock in his voice.
"Dream on." Arya laughed, "I never lose."
"I can't remember the last time you won against me." Jin's voice was relaxed.
"You know you suck at trash-talking?" Arya again chuckled.
"Is it working?"
"Hell yeah!" Arya sighed, "but don't you dare to think I'll go easy on this. I will successfully land this one."
"You can't."
"Listen to yourself," Arya replied.
Sensing both of them going in the same circle once again, Chamiyu raised his voice from the cockpit, totally done with the bickering two grown-ups near the jump door, "Or both of you can just get the hell out of my plane and do the jump already!"
Arya laughed and saluted Chamiyu and indeed jumped out of the jump door followed by Jin after her.
She has been jumping for the whole last week after Jin came back.
She can't say her acrophobia was gone, but it was now in her hands. At least she can control it.
And she didn't think she could do it if Jin wasn't there to push her.
After a few long minutes, Arya landed on the cape-like coral reef surrounding the Petlas's lagoon.
Jin landed beside her a few seconds after.
Landing on pinpointed location was tough. It required precision and practice for ages. And they had been doing it since the first additional course they had together under Soojin's supervision in the academy.
And that was the source of debate between them up in the plane whether Arya still can do it or not.
Arya finished gathering her parachute and folded it and saw Jin doing the same.
In one side of her was the calm, bluish-green water of the lagoon surrounded by the coral reef like a ring, and to the opposite of her was the angry waves of the sea crashing on the coral wall, spraying tiny vapors of saltwater in the air.
"Now what?" Arya smirked, "told you I can land here."
"One day off," Jin answered.
"Hey, Jin?" Suddenly Arya grinned mischievously.
"Mnn?"
"Does it burn?"
Jin looked at her, confused.
"Does it burn that you lost the bet?" Arya flashed her teeth with a wide smile.
Jin didn't answer, rather he sat down on the coral reef and put down his legs into the calmer side of the water after taking off his shoes.
The scene instantly brought back the memories from the night of the festival, and Arya sighed at the sight,
"wow, deja vu!"
"Didn't doubt for a second that you'd land it." Jin's voice was casual, answering Arya's previous teasing.
"And you still decided to push it." Arya rolled her eyes for the thousandths of times today and sat beside Jin, "Where the hell is Chamiyu the great? He just disappeared with the plane!"
"Marshal island. Sent him for refueling and supply."
"And how do you think we should go to the shore now?" Arya was annoyed a little.
"Simple. You swim."
"You are one stubborn man." Arya groaned, "now I have to swim two kilometers because of you."
"Should be fun."
Arya frowned, "what do you know about fun? You just know how to be boring."
Jin didn't answer her and got up. His eyes were keen on looking deep in the water, eyes searching for something.
Arya confusedly looked at him. What was he up to?
Jin's hand found the zipper of his jumpsuit And pulled it down.
"Yeah yeah, take it off." Arya whistled, "let me see."
Jin shot a look in her direction and uttered mildly, "Overt!"
Arya chuckled.
Jin didn't give much attention to her anymore and took off the jumpsuit.
He was wearing a pair of swimmers' shorts and a T-shirt underneath.
He went further and took off the T-shirt and inspected the calm water for a bit more, and flawlessly dived into the water without almost any splashings of water.
The water inside the lagoon was crystal clear, she could see Jin going deeper and suddenly he disappeared from her sight.
Arya tried to locate him craning her neck over the water from the coral reef.
It was almost a minute and a half when Arya started to get worried.
It was normal for them to be able to keep their breath for a long time.
The first training they got for developing lung capacity in their frogman course was by keeping their breath underwater for a long time.
She wasn't worried about the breath control, but about the whereabouts of Jin.
Where the hell did he go?
After almost two minutes, she saw Jin coming out and she let out a relief of sigh. Jin came out of the surface and released the used air slowly before inhaling fresh air and shook his wet hairs out of his sight and looked at Arya.
"Where the hell did you go?" Arya glared at him, "I was worried."
Jin didn't answer and put a few oysters on the reef and got up on the coral reef. His hands emptied his pockets and placed a few more oysters from his pockets in front of Arya.
"Oh, oysters?" Arya was confused,
"You have two whole pearl farms on the island. What is left to fascinate you in these tiny oysters?"
Jin brought out his hunting knife from the pocket of his jumpsuit that he left on the reef before and proceeded to open one oyster with it.
He inserted the blade inside the tightly clasped shell and cut the muscle that controls the hinge. The oyster opened without any more resistance.
Jin inserted his fingers into the fleshy part, felt for any bumps on the way, and when he took out his finger from the flesh, one round white pearl was shining between his index and thumb.
"Holly molly!" Arya whistled and Jin put the pearl in her palm.
"It is not Tahitian black pearl!" Arya frowned, eyeing the pearl in admiration.
"No." Jin agreed.
"Where did you find these? And how did you know these will have a pearl inside? People remain unlucky even after they open up thousands of oysters you know?"
"This reef has random caves underneath. These oysters are from there." Jin explained.
"And how do you know about the caves?"
"I and dad used to come here every week. He dived down always, brought back oysters, put something inside, and again took them back down there. They didn't have the farm here then yet. Dad started it as an experiment. Nobody knew about this apart from us twos."
"So it's your father's customized pearl shop?" Arya grinned.
"Yeah." Jin actually agreed, "He brought oysters samples from different renowned pearl beds across the globe and tried his experiment. I had long forgotten about it." Jin touched his nape I unsurely, "well, until now."
"Why did he do it?"
"Probably for mom." Jin sighed,
"Mom loved pearls. Probably that's why he thought he'll give her the richest pearl bed with every species possible."
"Aww." Arya almost squealed, "he was such a romantic person unlike you who only knows how to get killed by boredom."
Jin opened the oysters one by one and after six oysters, two beautiful pearls were sitting on Arya's palm.
When it is called good luck when people get one pearl out of three thousand oysters, two pearls in six oysters were unimaginable, no doubt that Jin called it the richest pearl bed in the world.
Arya was grazing the pearls in her palm, "What should we do with these?"
"I don't know." Jin shrugged casually.
"Useless!" Area snickered and shoved the T-shirt in Jin's hand, "put this on, will ya? You are distracting me!"
Jin's ears instantly turned pink and he put on the shirt keeping his gaze fixed at the shore ahead.
"Are you blushing?" Arya grinned.
"No." Jin was quick to answer.
"Awww, don't be embarrassed! I'll shut up."
"Mnn."
"Wait," Arya suddenly grabbed his arm.
Jin frowned and looked at her in confusion.
Arya yanked up the sleeve of his shirt and stared at the scar on Jin's bicep. Her brows formed a tight frown when her eyes moved to Jin's eyes.
"Jin?"
Jin pulled out his arm from her hands and looked ahead, "leave the parachute and jumpsuits here, Chamiyu will collect those later. Let's go to the shore now."
"But..."
"Let's go." Jin didn't let her finish and got up.
Arya watched him again diving into the calm water.
Subconsciously her one hand reached to her right arm and touched the tattoo on her bicep. She made the tattoo there to get rid of the nasty scar Jin's sword made while they were coursemates.
But what she just saw, Jin's scar...could that be...
"I am waiting!" Jin said from the water.
"Coming." Arya sighed and took off her jumpsuits and dived into the water after shoving both pearls in her trouser pocket.
"Two kilometers." Jin said looking at the shore, "what do you think? Can make it in thirty minutes?"
"Make it twenty," Arya replied.
"Wanna bet?"
"What is the catch?" Arya asked, a little excited for Jin never joins her goofing around like this.
"If you lose, No off day and blind shooting- I want six accurate shots minimum. "
"And if I can?" Arya smirked, "One off day and you'll cook for me."
"Greedy," Jin commented.
"let's reverse the bet." Arya suddenly quipped.
"How?"
"This time let's not make it about me whether I can or can't. Let's see, if you can win against me."
"Oh?" Jin raised one brow, "fine. If I win, no off day and six shots for you."
"If you lose, same. Off day, you'll cook and..." Arya tried to fish out what other idea she can put into, "let's come back here for some more pearls."
"Thought you didn't care about pearls." Jin frowned.
"But I want to see those caves, sounds thrilling and fun." Arya shrugged.
"Deal. But if I win and you miss any of the six shots, how are you gonna pay back?"
"Don't provoke me, boy!" Arya warned Jin, "I'll not miss this time. Well, if I do miss, fine, I'll do the Ninjutsu sessions. Happy?"
"Good deal." They shook hands and Arya mumbled, "Seemed like you won't rest until I say yes to this session you proposed anyway."
Jin shrugged and looked at her,
"ready?"
"Go." Arya clapped and they both started swimming towards the shore at the same time.
