22.
Jin took a quick glimpse at his lower chest, expression still unchanged. His white dress was already a bloody mess.
He again gazed in front and asked, "Remember the address on the book?"
"Yes." Arya nodded in agreement.
"Go straight to him."
"We are being chased," Arya yelled, "I am pretty sure they had spycams in his house and located us this fast. But if you think I am gonna leave you here, again? Not gonna happen."
Jin sighed and gave her a look.
"Don't look at me like that. You are injured." Arya tried to reason.
"Stupid." Jin looked in front.
"It's the second time you are calling me this." Arya glared, "what did I do?"
"You don't know?"
"I wish I knew," Arya complained, irritated a little. She didn't like Jin playing the hero every time while she knew she didn't need his protection or sacrifice.
Jin didn't respond.
"Are you gonna tell me, or what?" her voice lifted a little, "you know it's a lot disturbing when you decide to go mute at a crucial time."
Jin's brow knit a bit when he looked at Arya. His expression was changed a little, a bit stiff and stern, his eyes expressing the rarest thing openly- irritation.
He again looked in front and closed his eyes and sighed.
When he opened his eyes, his face was solemn and composed again. He was quick to regain his composure and get back control.
Arya was a little in a reverie. She thought to herself, did she see right? Was it fury in his eyes? The expression- he seemed quite angered. What did she do to flare him up?
"Jin?"
Jin's fists were clasped on the steering wheel but he remained silent.
"Are you mad at me?" Her tone was surprised realizing he was actually angry.
"Shut up."
"What did I do?!!" Arya scowled and reached to lift his blood-soaked cloth to assess the wound.
His one hand grasped her wrist hard and seethed, "Don't touch me."
"Alright alright, big man!" She raised her hand in retreat, "cool. But you have to tell me why are you mad at me?"
"You want to get killed?" This time Jin looked directly into her eyes.
"Why would I?" Arya mocked, "why? Do I look like I want to die?"
Jin's face hardened once again before concentrating on driving fast.
"Ok, ok sorry. I won't make fun again," Arya grinned, "I am serious."
"Why did you keep on scouring the broken laptop? I told you to get cover." His voice was scarily low.
Arya revisioned what happened in that house. Yes, indeed instead of taking cover, she was looking for something in the broken laptop when it was literally raining bullets everywhere. It is a spectacle that she is still breathing.
"Oh!" Arya cackled in amusement,
"Don't tell me you were scared that I was going to die!"
Jin didn't answer.
Seeing his expressionless face, Arya decided to tease him a little more and a wide grin appeared on her face, "Dear Jin, If you tell me that you were worried for me, I'll tell you what was I doing back then!"
"..."
"Answer me, Jin." She didn't get dejected and elicited more into him.
Jin seemed to snap but with her dismay, he remained silent.
She laughed it off and peeked through the rear window.
The siren was being heard, but the police cars were far behind to see.
"I was."
The voice was so mild that Arya for a second thought that she was hearing things.
She looked at Jin with absolute amusement and suddenly she burst into laughter, "Oh! Jin! Who thought I'd manage to make you say something like that?"
"..."
"That being said, I remember back in the days, you never actually liked me." Arya grinned and looked at him giddily, "I bet you wanted to strangle me every second when we were young."
"You were saying?" His voice was indifferent.
With no reciprocation of her energy and eagerness, Arya rolled her eyes and pouted in annoyance unconsciously,
"Always so sturdy and stiff! So boring! Anyway, I was looking for this-" Arya brought out a tiny square-shaped device from her pocket, "I retrieved the hard drive from the broken laptop. Scan it, you'll get the documents."
Jin looked at her hand holding the broken hard drive.
"I had the equipment in the hotel room to possibly scan it," Arya said after giving it a little thought.
Without any further warning, Jin pulled over in the road.
"Get out. assemble your equipment and go straight to the address on the book. Salvage the documents before I come back."
Arya once again took a glimpse at Jin's bloody shirt and got off without protest.
Before Jin could start the car again, she looked at him, "Careful!"
Jin neither did answer nor look back before driving off.
Arya ran into an ally before anyone can catch up with her.
After coming out from the confidential administrative wings of The Blue House, the cheif noticed a man approaching.
Cheif looked at Soojin beside him and managed to show a gentle smile on his face.
He greeted the man with heavy ornamentations on his American combined forces' uniform,
"General."
General didn't seem so pleased with his modest gesture, he directly went to the point, "tell me, Lieutenant general, I am hearing some rumors about you contacting people from the Blue house for a specific matter. Is it true?"
The cheif smiled a little and answered amicably, "I am not sure what has general heard, probably I can enlighten him if he is discreet."
"Are we gonna sign the deal or what? If anybody has an objection to our taking control of six bases, why wasn't it presented with reasons and logic? I am sure both parties can agree," his voice was annoyed and rough.
"Don't get me wrong, General. I am not against it," The cheif smiled gently.
"But I heard otherwise."
"I don't know what you have heard, general," The cheif was still calm,
"But you can't blame me if we want to be more cautious, right? We are just taking time to make decisions here."
"I won't push if the Blue house is agreeing with you on this. But there's nothing to discuss much, is there? We made every point clear and gave clear reasons and planning of our demand." The general was pissed at the man below his ranking but still holding nerve in front of him.
"I mean no disrespect, general, but it's not a deal we can crack in one day. Let's have patients." The cheif was still cool and was dealing with the matter carefully. He definitely wouldn't want to stir up troubles between the diplomatic relation between two countries and of course he wouldn't want to dismiss the matter saying straightforward "NO" to their deal. Unless he has the evidence in his hands, he has to leave the option open for using it later.
"You went to retirement, exactly when, Lieutenant-general?" General's voice was commanding.
"More than ten years." The cheif nodded.
"I advise you to stay on your path then. Stick to whatever your government assigned you to do without poking your nose in
state matters."
The insult was vividly clear, yet the cheif smiled nicely, "will keep that in mind, general. Have a good day."
Bowing a little, the cheif walked away with Soojin.
"How outrageous!" Soojin burst into rage, "Cheif, I..."
"Calm down, Soojin," The cheif smiled and looked at her, "did you get it?"
"What? Cheif?"
"We hit a nerve there," The face of the cheif revealed a bit of mischief and amusement.
For the past few days, he was trying to convince The Blue House about the USA involvement in the border killings and manipulations from the shadow behind MOSSAD.
The meeting started in the morning and ended half an hour ago. And it was almost dusk outside.
While The Blue House wanted proof about the chief's indictments, they were also convinced that he can't present his proof in time before sealing the deal with the US force. If that happened, they are not backing off, and the deal which was hanging for the last six months would finally be sealed in this meeting. On the other hand, the chief refused to believe that Jin can't send him the documents in time.
The US forces had the upper hand in the meeting, the decision was heavier towards them on the scale.
But for the persistent objections and disagreements of the cheif and the departments under his command, the decision was jumping from this court to that court after every short break in the meeting.
That was before he got his hands on the documents and every information about the suspicious activity of MOSSAD with the North Korean Generals and the meetings with arms dealers and the CIA officials.
Jin kept his words.
He sent those before the deal was sealed.
The vague documents weren't enough to convince The Blue House to blow up the treaty, but these definitely made a point of suspicion and as the involvement of the USA force was indirect to assume behind the direct involvement of MOSSAD, they decided to keep the deal on hold, rather calling it off.
The cheif just met with the defense minister a few minutes ago, he specifically told him to dig into the matter and confirm the suspicions and bring the solid proof before the next meeting.
If he can't prove the USA's involvement in these, they will seal the deal and let the US forces take control of the six bases as they demanded.
Since the deal was postponed at the last minute after whole days of dominating at the USA's Side the US general was outrageous.
The chief smiled contentedly.
Now all he needs to do is, get into work, appoint his agents around to dig out the dirt from beneath the carpet.
And he was determined, he would find something against them to finally cancel the deal.
He can't let the US forces take control of their military bases. The idea itself was insulting and outrageous enough to make his blood boil with fury.
"Seokjin did a good job, cheif," Soojin clamored beside him.
"Indeed." he agreed.
