Chapter 3: Huff, Huff, and Blow The House Down

Anger:
a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility.

My picture should be next to that definition.

Dear readers, don't stay in the stage of anger for too long, it'll only make this process worse.

The day after my blackout, that's a good example of worse... in a weird sort of way...

Dammit! No spoilers!

I luckily got a ride with Luke and Becca today. This way, I could avoid Dumb and Dumber with their red car.

I hopped out of the black mini van, making my way towards the doors of my inevitable doom. Becca and Luke followed behind me.

"Are you sure you are okay to go to school today?" Luke asked pushing his glasses further up his nose.

"Yes I'm fine! Why are you so worried mom!" I sarcastically snap at Luke.

Luke doesn't deserve it. He's a puppy that just wants a bone.

Come on guys! Give him a bone!

"Hey! That's my older brother you're talking to." Becca used her Marlon Brando impression from the God Father as if to intimidate me.

"I'm not in the mood Becca." I storm away from my two friends and run up the stairs to the front door of the school.

I walked down the hallways until I was facing my locker. I made sure no predators were near to feast on their prey. I unlocked the combination in order to open up the green metal door. My books were neatly stacked on the top shelf and a leather jacket was hung up at the back. I put my satchel in the locker and grabbed a binder and my chemistry textbook. I closed the locker door and lock it up.

As soon as I turn around, a slim figure bumps into me.

"I am so sorry!" The girlish voice replies, reaching down to pick up my stuff.

"Yeah sure you are." I snap at her.

"What? No, I really am -"

"You know, just because someone is smaller than you and you may consider them to be a nobody, doesn't mean you can just take every chance you get to make their lives miserable." I cut the girl off, picking up my binder and textbook from the cold tile floor.

"I really don't know what you're talking about-"

"Oh sure! Let me just casually bump into the one guy at school that everyone hates!" I purposely didn't make eye contact with her, just looking at her blue shirt.

"Honestly it was! I'm new -"

"Oh yeah! Like I haven't heard that excuse before!"

"I'm being serious!"

"You know, just shut the f-"

I was interrupted by the bell ringing for first period.

"Now if you excuse me, I have to go." I spit out as I make my way to Chemistry.

God! The nerve of some people.

I AM AN IDIOT!

Do you see what happens to you? It's awful, isn't it?

Every single day of your childhood your parents always say to be kind.

Help people.

Stand up for yourself.

And here I am, yelling at some girl I have never met before because I was having a rough week.

Dear readers, your emotions important to express...

Until they are not.

I walked towards the only class that I was actually acing this semester. I enter the class and smell the comforting stench of chemicals. The heavy books are weighing down my arms as I walk towards the only empty table in which I sit alone.

Yet again.

I look to my left and see Becca sitting next to Jessica.

Becca, I swear to God, you mess this up for me and you'll be the next Marie Antoinette.

Mr. Barker enters the room in a jolly mood. His Santa like complexion shouldn't fool you, because deep down underneath all those layers upon layers of skin, he's Satan.

He was also my favourite teacher.

"Okay everyone, today we have a new student joining us."

Didn't someone say something about a transfer student?

Yes, yes they did.

Wasn't the transfer the person who saved my ass yesterday?

Yup! Also correct!

A girl appears through the doorway of our class with a nervous smile. She has a mulatto complexion and her eyes sparkled a brilliant blue. She was petite, but also well built. Her hair was in tight curls and haloed around her entire head. She wore these funky leggings with Pacman all over them. I looked upwards to her chest (in the general area guys! Come on, I'm not a pervert!) and see the blue of her t-shirt.

She was beautiful.

Too bad there was Jessica.

You MORON!

I look at her again.

Blue.

T-shirt.

Ah, SHIT!

"Parker, you can take a seat next to Mr. Nelson." Mr Barker pointed at me.

You could see this so-called Parker girl begin to tense up. She weakly smiled and nodded her head at Mr. Barker without saying a word. You could hear the squeak of her sneakers against the slippery tile floors of the classroom. She took the seat next to mine and put her head down, trying to block me out perhaps.

"Now, whoever is sitting next to you will be your lab partner for quite some time now."

Oh boy.

"Miss Emmett, Mr. Nelson in quite the know-it-all in this class. You can ask any questions about what we have learned thus far in this class and he will be able to answer." Mr Barker smiled, as if he knew this was causing me pain.

You asshole, Mr Barker.

"I'm so sorry if I offended you in anyway today." Parker said meekly.

I sighed and looked at her. "I should be the one apologizing profusely."

She laughed a bit, "No, no, no need. You obviously have been having a rough couple of days." She finally looked up at me, making eye contact. "How are you feeling today?"

I knew she was referring to yesterday but it still took me a while to register and respond. "I still have a wicked headache but I think I'm okay."

"The nurse said you had a mild concussion." She looked around the class carefully. "Should I be worried? Will I get bashed up like you did?"

"No, you'll be fine. Just don't mess with the football guys."

She smiled with a nod of her head before directing her attention to the front of the class.

"Now, for the next couple of weeks, we will be conducting a series of experiments and labs. You will have to fill in your lab notes and hand them into me after every one we perform. By December, we should be done with the experiments and then you and your partner will have to design your own lab and perform it."

Sometimes when Mr. Barker talked like this, he slowly began to morph into Charlie Brown's teacher.

*Wah wah wah, wah wah wah wah, wah*

"Understood?" He asked with gusto.

"Yes sir." The entire class responds.

"Good. The remainder of the class will be to fill out your lab notebooks with the following format, we will be performing our first lab on Friday." Mr. Barker turned towards the chalkboard to write down the note format.

"Psst. Um... Mr. Nelson?" Parker said handing me a note.

"It's Toby by the way." I take the note from her with a sideways smile.

She lets out a little bit of a breathy laugh before opening her notebook to fill in the format.

I opened up the pink slip of paper that smelt like roses.

Jessica.

I should also point out that you will all probably suffer from the pathetic stage.

Don't worry, we all turn out to be pathetic in the long run!

But between all of you and me, we are the most pathetic out of the lot.

Toby, text me after school and we can meet up at my place. You need to explain this shit to me. :)

I turn to look at Jessica who is sitting at the table next to me. She flashes me a smile and gives me a thumbs up. I return the thumbs up before she begins to look back at her notes.

I decide to begin writing down the format since Slow Barker over there was almost done.

Maybe this day won't turn out so bad after all.
