Blade Learns
I woke up with Blade's tail wrapped around my waist and his head still on my chest. I felt way more rejuvenated than usual, possibly a side effect of Blade's comforting warmth. I needed to get up, so I carefully unwrapped his tail for my waist, as it was restraining me. Then I carefully lifted his head off my chest. Mission success, Blade was still asleep. I walked downstairs and began brewing some coffee. I needed to go to the store that day. I wrote the following:
LOTS of beef sirloin
Different blends of coffee(see if Blade likes any)
Lots of meats in general(see what Blade prefers)
Lettuce
Tomato
Ranch Dressing
My writing was interrupted as I heard a loud, distressed sounding screech from my bedroom. Next thing I knew Blade bolted through a doorway (this time ducking), looking like he was scared. He jumped down the staircase with what I could only assume was a worry face. He began frantically looking back and forth until he saw me. Then he ran to me and hugged me so hard I couldn't breathe. "Woah woah woah buddy calm down. I'm here. I'm here. I'm sorry to scare you like that with me not laying next to you when you woke up." Blade must have had a panic attack when he woke up and realized I wasn't there.
After releasing his tight embrace, Blade began his search of the house again. "Back at it already, huh? You know, you're something special Blade." He looked back and smiled at me. "You know what Blade, I have a question for you." He looked back, clearly interested in what I was about to say. "Do you want to learn how to read and write?" He immediately nodded and ran back to me, with a smile on his face. The entire process only took about an hour and a half, surprisingly. All I need to do was explain to him the English alphabet and the sounds the letters make, and he was already writing sentences, as Xenomorphs are extremely intelligent. When we were done, I asked, "Well Blade, what is the first thing you want to say to me?" He wrote: Why are you not hostile towards me? "Oh, well, I didn't expect that. Well, you were clearly hurt when I found you unconscious on the ground. You needed help, or you would die. I decided that I would help you, as I didn't want you to die. If you did die, there would be that permanent stain in my memory that said 'You let that poor creature die, hurt and alone'. I guess I just wanted to be nice, and besides, my house here is sort of isolated from humanity, so I took the chance to get a friend for once. You are the only friend I have now. Now my question. Why are you not hostile towards me?" I am not hostile towards you because you helped me. Like you said, I would have died out there, hurt and alone. When I woke up in your room, I was scared. My kind are not ones to admit that, but I will. When you walked in the room, I thought you were going to kill me. Then you fed me, returning my strength. You are the only friend I have. Therefore I would not ruin such a good fortune, as every human I have ever met has tried to hurt me. Now my question. What is your name? The sudden realization hit me like a brick. "Oh my god. Shoot! Sorry! I forgot to tell you my name! I guess I was just too caught up in the craziness of the situation yesterday. It's Christian. Now my question. Why haven't you left yet? I would assume you would want to go back to your family. Er, I mean, hive." Blade looked down in sadness. I have no family anymore. I was out hunting when I felt the ground shake beneath me. Not one, not two, but eleven times. I sensed that they were all gone. I quickly ran back to the hive to find nothing. Just a smoldering ruin of nothing. The military must've came by while I was gone and bombed the whole hive and wiped out everyone, including the queen. So that is why I am still here. I have a friend, probably the only friend I will ever have. There is now no reason to go back. A pang of sadness washed over me like a wave. Now I understood why he was so panicked this morning. I am literally everything he has, and probably everything he ever will have. He doesn't want me to leave him. I have one last question. May I stay here? "Of course. I guess it's mutual, Blade, because you are also my only friend. I would love for you to stay here. You can stay until the day you die." Blade then leaned forward and hugged me. I returned the embrace, all the while he was scratching my neck with his tail.
"Anyway, I have to go to the store." Store? he wrote confusedly. "A store is a place where you trade currency for goods, like food and water, as well as items." I explained. He seems to understand. May I come with you? He asked. "Yes," I answered, "but you need to stay out of sight. If anyone sees you other than me, they will probably get scared and call for help. There is a long line of trees on the way to the super market, you might be able to jump from tree to tree while staying hidden. When I get inside the store, you need to wait for me to come back out again. And I'll walk from my house to the store, to enjoy the scenery." He nodded and followed me out the door to my house. Sure enough, as I was walking, I saw a familiar long, black, slender shape jumping from tree to tree. When I walked in the supermarket, I saw Blade perch on top of a palm tree, then wave at me. Is it right to say that a Xenomorph is cute? Once inside, I headed straight for the meat section. I dragged my hand across the shelves, sweeping up everything into my cart. I did the same with the coffee section. I got every blend I could possibly find, as I (and maybe Blade) would need it. R.I.P my bank account. When I was paying for my "food" the cashier looked at me like I was insane. "It's for a friend." I said. When I walked out of the store, Blade was still there, on top of the palm tree. He didn't see me when I walked out, so I lightly threw a rock at him. He looked over, clearly in a state of shock, wondering if someone saw him. Then he saw me. Now I couldn't hear him since he was way up in a palm tree, but I could see him put a growl on his face. I laughed. I started walking back home, and sure enough, he started following me.
When we got home, he walked in, clearly still not very happy with my little stunt. As he walked past, he poked me in the back with his tail. "Heh heh, sorry bud. It would have been a little suspicious if I yelled 'BLADE!!!' in front of everyone. Anyways, come over here. Look what I got us." I showed him the tons of chicken, pork, steak, and sirloin I got. He grabbed his notepad and wrote: That's a lot of food. I suddenly had an idea. "Hey Blade, do you want to watch a movie?" He put on his confused face. "Come here, it would be better if I just showed you." I took him into the recliner room. "Here, come sit down." I said. When he sat down, I pulled the lever to make the footrest come out. "Blade, what feels the worst recently? I mean, what part of your body?" My back and neck are pretty sore. Why? He wrote. "You'll see." I pushed the button on the recliner to start a neck and back massage. He seemed surprised at first, but then he started purring the loudest I've ever heard him purr. I turned on the TV. All I heard was "SCREEH!!" I turned to see Blade shielding his "eyes" from the sudden flash of light. I immediately lowered the brightness on the TV. "Sorry! Are you Xenomorphs sensitive to light?" Blade nodded. "Here, let me make it up to you. Follow me." I walked to the microwave in the kitchen, Blade behind me the whole time. I put two bags of popcorn in the microwave and activated it. Blade reared back at the sudden popping, looking around to see where it was coming from. "It's coming from here, Blade." He walked back to the microwave, confused. "This stuff does that when it cooks. When it was done, I put the popcorn into two separate bowls and walked back to the recliner room. "Don't forget to bring you notepad!" I called to him. When we sat back down, I gave Blade a bowl. He looked confused. "Eat it! It's really good!" I told him. This time he ate it without hesitation. I probably gained his trust in food after I gave him the cyanide - free sirloin when I met him the day prior. He stuck his secondary mouth into the bowl with with such force it sent popcorn flying all over the room. "Like it?" I asked. He nodded. "Just be a bit more carful next time when you take a bite. Now we are going to watch what we humans call a movie. It'll be about one and a half hours long. The movie is called 'Aliens'. It's about your species!" He seemed interested, now knowing it was about his fellow Xenomorphs. I turned on the movie. He was instantly mesmerized. He smiled every time the Xenomorph came on the screen, and he also smiled every time the alien killed a human. I pretended not to notice. When the movie was over, I looked at the time. Wow! It was already 8:00! Well Blade, what do you want to do now? I'm pretty tired. He wrote. Let's go to bed. When we were upstairs laying in bed, I thought about something. "Hey Blade. Are you male or female? Because I've been called you him in my head this whole time." He wrote: I am a male. Males are extremely rare when it comes to the Xenomorph gene pool. "Cooleo. Goodnight Blade. Love you." As he pulled me close with his tail, he started purring right beside me.
