Chapter 3: The Avalanche
Pandora, Raven, and Ember all woke up. The sun shone brightly in the sky, making the surroundings of snow become an assault to the eyes. Pandora yawned, Raven stretched, and Ember cleaned her paws. Flame was still snoring by the time they had fully awakened. Ember rolled her eyes. "Do you think we should just leave him here and give him a scare for once? I mean, he has done with us at least 6 or 7 times." Ember whispered. Pandora sighed, but nodded. Raven smiled as they padded off, wiping their paw prints away with their tails. They positioned themselves inside of a bush and waited. After 3 to 4 minutes, Flame woke up, yawning. His eyes darted around. "G-guys?!?!" He shivered and leaped up. His eyes actually looked pretty panicked, but they still didn't get out of their hiding place. His ears were flat on his head. "G-guys? Where are you??" His head swung back and forth so much that it looked like his neck would break. They finally decided to come out of their hiding spot. As they all walked out from behind the bush, Flame's eyes were filled with relief. "I thought you guys had left me! I thought I was doomed.." Flame studied them. Pandora was trying to get dust out of her eyes{Safely of course}, Raven was nibbling on her claws, and Ember was giving him a cold stare. He didn't try to connect any dots, he just knew something wasn't right. The group of four padded through the forest until they left it. At the Edge of the Foxtail river, they all stopped for a drink. The water was cold and refreshing, despite its color. Ember's ears pricked as she heard a howl. "I think there are wolves near.. We stick out like Black rocks on a pure white tundra. Very true for You and Raven, Pandora." Ember told her. Pandora let out a sigh. She shrouded the group of four, her eyes accepting the faint tinge of darkness. A yawn was revealed by Raven, who's eyes looked droopy. Ember poked Raven with a claw. "Don't be falling asleep on us Rae." Ember told her. Raven smiled at her nickname. "Thanks Emb, but I'm going to be fine." She replied. The foxes ran over a white tundra. If they were visible, they would have been splashes of black, violet, blue, red, and orange on a blank white canvas. They could've ran for hours or minutes, but not a single one of them would know, even if they tried. They stopped for food once the sun was lower in the sky. They had no choice but to do for fish, despite the multiple birch forests. They each caught a rainbow trout, and they ate their food happily. It was strange their journey had been this peaceful, despite the Blind Fox and the golem guarding the way into the snowlands. Pandora stretched again, watching the flowing water and her friends. She was tired, but happy. Suddenly, the ground shook. Too late, Pandora and the group realised that they were by a mountain. One that was very prone to avalanches. "RUN!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. Briefly, as she ran, her mind darted to the Forest Fire. The way she had screamed just like this. She pushed herself to go faster, and Raven tried to make it so Flame wouldn't lag behind, but Ember had it covered, so she gave up. The avalanche cascaded down, snow, rocks, bushes, and trees begging for something to snag that was alive. Flame tripped on a lose stone and lost his footing. Ember yelped as she was pulled down with him. "No!!" Raven shrieked. She used her water to try and redirect the Avalanche, but it fought past her water and created the biggest wall of Snow, ice, trees, bushes, rocks, and things they couldn't identify between them and Ember and Flame. They heard another shriek from behind the wall and the oomph of snow falling. 'No no no No No no NO no NO!!!" Pandora fell to the ground, her body shaking. Raven's eyes glassed over and she fell beside her sister. They began digging like mad foxes, trying to get through. But more snow fell on top of the hole they were making, and there were no signs that Ember and Flame had survived. Raven eventually passed out, and Pandora laid beside her, falling asleep instantly.
*Timeskip*
*After their 'coma like thing'*
Raven and Pandora both woke up, in a dirty hole in the snow. Pandora and Raven's eyes both felt dry and neglected as they got up and went to the edge of the Fox Tail river to drink some water. They caught a few tadpoles and ate those, despite the fact they weren't hungry. They hadn't eaten or drank in 5 days though so that was strange. They trudged along the bank of the river yet again, their paws dragging in the snow and frozen earth. "I hate that avalanche so much." Raven broke the silence. Pandora nodded. "Me too." She whispered. "I hope though that Ember and Flame somehow are still alive. They know that we are going to the Mystic Lands, so if they survived, we'll meet them there." Pandora nodded again, her ears flat against her head. Raven raised her head to look at the general area the sun was in. "We need to keep going this way." Raven muttered. Pandora shivered. Her brain was full of memories of the Forest Fire, and the Avalanche. Why was Tragedy stalking them? It seemed like a Tragedy written in the Stars, almost like the tales Pandora would hear from Elderly foxes in her skulk. She wondered where they all were now too. She yawned and saw that Raven had seemed to have her appearance more under control. Pandora could tell her fur was dirty and messy. She couldn't exactly blame anyone except the avalanche and the loss of Ember and Flame. But it was still her fault that she looked this way. It wasn't right for her to look like this, but her fear and sadness made it so she didn't stop and clean up. She knew that it would backfire, but she didn't really care. 'I couldn't save them. I can't really save anyone..' Pandora thought. Her eyes looked as if clouds were draped over them, and Raven noticed and stopped. Pandora sat down, and began to clean Pandora up. Pandora tried to protest, but she was too tired to continue, and Raven had always had a way of calming down the middle child of the family. After Raven had cleaned Pandora up, they kept walking towards the Mystic lands, not looking back. A cloud of sadness still hung over them, but they went on, sure of their duty.
