Chapter Four
Konstantin walked inside the house, where once again it was another party, filled with a bunch of nobodies, some of them were upstairs nearly dead from the blood loss thanks to his blood brother and his four wives. He sighed as he put his coat up and started walking around, ignoring the burning burn of thirst that hit the back of his throat. Some of the nobodies were aristocrats, who nodded and said hello to him, while the others fully ignored him and were dancing, drinking, or indulging in some kind of sin.
"Ah, brother, there you are!" Trevor said mouth bloodied once he raised his head from the neck of a courtesan, a beautiful elf woman that Konstantin had no idea who she was. "Welcome to the Evie goes to hell party. Got quite a ring to it, don't you think?"
"Where is Evangeline, anyway?" Konstantin asked, crossing his arms over his chest. "Shouldn't she be here?"
"And what?" Dominika asked, siding up to him in a pink silk dress that hugged her curves perfectly. "Ruin it by trying to run away from her only family? Not feast on these wonderful humans who look so scrumptious right now..." She licked her ruby red lips as her eyes trailed off when an aristocrat walked passed her, giving her a little wink as he did so. "Maybe I can get myself a toy so this house would be lively again. Though poor little Evie was fun to torment every once in a while..."
"But she's gone now-probably dead somewhere in the woods with a knife in her heart or starved to death..." Trevor said with a smirk. "I don't think she'll be coming back here anytime soon."
"Are you sure about that, Trevor?" a voice asked behind him, making the three vampires turn to see a man in all black and red, his crimson eyes almost glowing in the chandelier lights behind him. His hands were in his pants pockets, and his messy silver hair seemed to shine in the light. Next to him was a pink-haired girl with very long bunny ears who was holding an armadillo in her arms. She wore an all-black dress as well, and her head was turned to the side, blinking up at them with huge crimson eyes as well.
"Daddy?" the girl said, sounding like she was no older than four years old. "What did they do to Miss Evie?"
The man looked down at the girl and gently patted her head. "They got rid of her, my darling," the man explained. "She didn't fit into their family."
"Why would they do that?"
"That is exactly what I want to know," the man said, his left eye glowing red. "Where is Evangeline Kingsleigh, Trevor?"
The question was simple, but there was a lot of power in it, and it even made Trevor tremble. He knew exactly who this was-Viscount Salem Krukrenberg, the vampire who was the only one allowed in a human court and is part of the Vampire Council, and his daughter and heir of the Krukrenberg line, Marceline Krukrenberg, a humanoid haregon who was from the faewilds, in a land called Pekoland. And if the Vampire Council was looking into her disappearance...
Shit.
"I don't know what you mean, Viscount-" Trevor started to say until he started to levitate from the ground, his throat being crushed by powerful magic even though he wasn't breathing. Marceline's laugh sounded like fireworks in his ears as she laughed and clapped at him.
"Make him go higher, Daddy!" she said, almost jumping up and down as if they were playing a game. "Make him go higher!"
"Oh, I will, my sweet," Salem crooned, his voice promising just that. He had taken his hands from his pockets and now had his arms crossed over his chest. "As long as he answers the question. Unless you want Marceline to feed from you, to see what you did to dear Miss Evie...and then, well..." the Viscount casually shrugged, as if he wouldn't have any control over his child if she did that. "I don't think you'll like it if she gets very angry."
Trevor's blue eyes flickered over to Dominika, praying she didn't open her mouth, even when he felt the bones of his neck starting to creak. But it was Konstantin who spoke up instead, which Trevor would've taken a deep breath if he would.
"If you must know where Evangeline is, Trevor threw her into the woods and left her with the wolves to pick on her broken body," Konstantin explained. "I've been trying to track her for days, and it only led me to a cave and the smell of death and blood."
Marceline looked over to Konstantin, blinking back blood-red tears at the answer. "He hurt her, Daddy," she said, her voice slowly turning deadly. "I wanna play with him now."
That made Trevor gulp. He heard stories of how Marceline "played", and how they ended up broken, nearly out of their minds, and sometimes she'd kill them in a childlike manner, or worse as if she was one of the four warlords that were ruling almost each corner of the world. How can one bunny rabbit be this psychotic, he had no idea. But he didn't want to be one of her playthings, and he started to shake.
"Viscount, please, I don't think I'd be the perfect playmate to the Lady Marceline," he stammered. "I don't think I know what her favorite toy is—"
"Miss Evie was always nice to me," Marceline said, taking a step forward, keeping her crimson eyes on him. "She always played with me and gave me the best toys, and you took her away from me. Now I get to play with you and find Miss Evie—if daddy let me."
Trevor gulped at the thought of the vampire finding Evangeline—wherever she was—and then taking her in and making her part of the family. He wanted to tell them to go ahead and try to find her, only for the magic to enclose more around his throat, cutting off whatever threat was going to come out of his mouth. "I think," Salem said slowly, blinking once at him, walking up close to him till they were face to face. "That is a perfect idea, my sweet Marceline. I think you should go and find her, and bring her home to us," he said, finally letting Trevor go and watching him coldly fall to the ground with a crash. "And then maybe....just maybe...she can finally be free from a bastard like you." He said with a hint of a growl, his lip curled up as he turned and left the party, Marceline trailing behind him.
Trevor waited till he was gone so he could speak, but before he could, Dominika shook her head. "Don't," she said. "If you go up against that man, it's not going to end well."
He nodded before a slow smile tugged his lips. "What if we didn't go up against him?" he said slowly, a plan slowly forming in his mind. "What if...we actually go and get something he has, and then once we get what we need...we can finally be on top for once...and crush that fool and kill dear Evie all in one stone."
