Chapter 36: Dragons II

"If you want to conquer the world, you best have dragons."
                   -Anonymous

Your heart pounded in your chest as your mind took in Taehyung's words, your palms slowly becoming sweaty and warm and your head began to pound in your skull.

"Holy crap." you breathed out as your blue eyes took in the huge beast.

You watched as it climbed onto the tops of buildings, its giant claw breaking away the shingles and bricks of every house it touched as it's large, slitted blue eyes slowly rose to meet yours from a distance. Your eyes widened as the scaly beast released a loud roar, shaking the village and forcing you to cover your ears. You had never seen or heard anything so dangerous, and you found yourself being extremely frightened.

The dragon's body slowly began to move, it's blue eyes never once leaving your shaky form as it climbed over the rooftops of houses, clawing away at everything just to reach you. You had the blue flame...It was here because of you.

Taehyung's hand suddenly found your upper arm, his body pulling you away from the window harshly as he began to lead out of the library.

"We can't stay here." He stated. " Its after you. I thought we had at least a few more days before one of them found you, but apparently I was wrong. We need to get you somewhere safe."

You simply nodded, allowing the violet eyed king to drag you from the library out into the busy streets. People were everywhere, some running, some trying to find shelter and some searching for their loved ones frantically. Everyone was panicking and you couldn't blame them, because, in all honesty.... you were too.

You didn't want to die, not like this, not hen your death wouldn't do any good....not when your death would be useless.

Taehyung continued to pull you through the streets another roar sounding through the village, and shaking you to your very core as you heard more screams erupt from the people around you.

"Fire!"

Your eyes widened and your body slowly began to turn around, your blue gaze falling onto the flames that now burned throughout the town, a few villagers screaming in agony as the flames burned away at their flesh. You covered your mouth in shock and disgust as you watched them fall to the ground, either dead or close to it.

Taehyung pulled once again on your arm.

"Run Y/n!"

You heard him clearly, your mind understood every word he said, but your body couldn't move. You stood frozen as your eyes watched innocent people burn. Your mouth was dry and your throat constricted in dread.

Taehyung couldn't wait for you to move on your own. He forced you to move, grabbing your hand and pulling you away from the carnage of the town square, his feet running as fast as they could, his mind only focused on getting you to safety. His heart pounded against his ribs as he struggled to pull you along with him. He needed you to be away from that monster, he needed you to be safe.

His lavender eyes began searching for a place of refuge, somewhere, anywhere that you may be safe from the dangers of the town. His mind began racing in his head as he scolded himself for not being more prepared.

ThinkThinkThink!

His gaze suddenly fell onto the town's prison, his mind going back to his first night in this town, the night when Yoongi betrayed everyone. The prison consisted of two floors, the first floor was merely a lobby of sorts, a place where people would come and settled small disputes with the town chancellor, no prisoners were held there, but the second floor was underground, it's walls were sound proof and virtually inescapable...It was the perfect place to hide.

He began pulling you towards the building, trying his best to ignore the screams coming from behind him.

"Where are we going Taehyung?!" You yelled out.

The elvish king glanced back at you.

"To the prison. It's the safest place to be right now."

You suddenly stopped walking, your hand slipping away from Taehyung's. The purple eyed king stopped in his tracks turning to face you, anger and frustration written on his handsome features.

"What are you doing?!" He yelled. "We need to get to shelter!"

You nodded, your eyes glancing around at the carnage and scared people around you.

"So do they."

Taehyung's eyes widened.

"We don't have time for this y/n! Your life is in danger, now come on!"

He reached for your hand again, only for you to swat his hand away, your blue eyes sending him an icy glare.

"These people are top priority. We help them or I don't move from this spot."

Taehyung stared at you dumbfounded, anger and adoration swimming in his eyes at the same time as he released a heavy sigh of frustration.

" Very well." He breathed out.  "But we must hurry."

You nodded your head, your eyes falling onto the scattering villagers. You began to move quickly, trying to find someone who wasn't dead. Your gaze fell upon a small child. Her blond hair covered in ashes as she cried over the dead body of an older women, you presumed to be her mother. The child was only two years of age if not younger, her body sat in a pile of ruble as she screamed at the top of her lungs, you watched as people continued to run past her, not even acknowledging her presence.

You didn't hesitate.

You ran toward the little girl as swiftly as you could, dodging the panicking people and the fire that burned on the rooftops in a blazing fury. The child screamed and extended her hands to you, tears falling from her bright golden eyes and rolling down her chubby little cheeks. You gently leaned down and picked her up, hugging her body close to yours as she rested her face in the crook of your neck, her cries becoming quieter as you held her.

You continued your mission, frantically finding people and telling them to run to the prison, most of them listened to your instructions, others merely blamed your for this and shoved you away.

After a few minutes the streets were almost empty, but the dragon grew more furious the longer that it didn't have you. It released another roar and a wave of flames hit the city, this fire, stronger and greater than the last one. You began running towards the prison, your right hand cupping the child's head as your feet moves swiftly away from the beast that began to advance on you.

Taehyung stood at the entrance of the prison, his hands ushering in the wounded and the rest of the people as his gaze slowly moved up to watch your small form run towards him, your arms holding a small infant.

Taehyng's eyes widened.

The beast was following you.

"Y/n!"

You didn't even look back, you didn't have to. You could hear its footsteps coming closer to you as you ran to the prison doors, the child screaming in your arms.

The dragon advanced on you, his wings spreading out as he stood on his hind legs and landing back on all fours, causing the earth to shake and your balance to almost be lost.

You were it's target now, and it had you locked in it's sight.

The dragon released another wave of flames.

The prison door slammed shut as your body entered into the safe haven, the small infant crying in your arms as your gaze met Taehyung's. Your chest heaved and your eyes were wide in fear as you swallowed hard, throat sore from running.

Taehyung stared at you, releasing a heavy sigh of relief as he took in your unwounded state.

"Never do that again." He said.

You released a breathy laugh.

"No promises. I like being unpredictable."

Taehyung sent you a disapproving look, his gaze falling onto the child in your arms.

"Where is it's mother?"

You frowned, your hand stroking the baby's head affectionately.

"She died."

Taehyung nodded sadly.

"I see..."

You moved your eyes away from him.

"Where are the others? Did they make it?" You asked wearily, part of you scared to know the answer.

Taehyung nodded.

"Yes. They all made it inside. They are calming down the people as we speak."

You released a sigh of relief.

"Thank God."

Another roar resounded from the dragon outside, causing your body to jump back in fright.

"We need to move down stairs with the others." Taehyung stated.

You nodded, following him down the stone stairs, into the cell room where all the survivors were held up, each of them muttering amongst themselves, fear written on each and every one of their faces.

Your eyes instinctively searched for a familiar face amongst the large sea of people, your blue gaze falling onto Namjoon, whose hands were extended in front of him, holding two pieces of bread. Two small children took the bread from him and began to dig into it.

You smiled widely, tears almost pouring out of your eyes as you slowly began to spot your friends in the crowd one by one, each one of them dong their best to stop the chaos.

Jin's golden eyes rose up to meet your form, a large smile forming on his face as he slowly trudged over to you, his arms taking your body and puling it into his chest, not even noticing the infant you held.

You were slightly in shock at his actions, but you lowly hugged him back with your free arm.

"I'm so glad your not dead."

You laughed weakly.

"That definitely makes two of us."

Jin slowly pulled away, placing a chaste kiss on your forehead, before receiving a hard smack to the face.

The rosy haired prince gasped, raising his hand to his cheek as he searched your face with wide eyes.

"Did you just slap me?" He asked dumbfounded.

You chuckled, shaking your head, and pointing your finger at the two year old in your arms.

"I think she did it."

The baby girl burst out in a fit of giggles as she watched Jin's jaw drop to the floor.

Jin couldn't help but laugh at the baby's cute giggles.

"Y/n. Jin." Yoongi's deep voice rang through the cellroom, causing both you and Jin to look away from the giggling baby and at the orange eyed prince.

Yoongi didn't speak, he simply motioned his finger for the two of you to come to him.

You and Jin shared a worried glance before approaching the man and following him half way up the staircase, closing the cell room door behind you.

All the men stood staring at you, worry and fear evident on their face as they too in your frazzled state.

"Are you okay?" Jimin's soft voice asked worriedly, his golden eyes glancing at the child in your arms.

You nodded.

"I'm fine." You stated. "What is this about?"

Hoseok released a heavy sigh, his hand rubbing his eyes stressfully.

"There's no food or water here." He said. "We have nothing to give these people."

"Can't we just wait for the dragon to get bored and leave?" You inquired.

Jungkook shook his head.

"Dragons don't get "bored". They nest. If this dragon thinks that he has wiped out every living thing here, then chances are that it isn't going to leave for a long time, and even if it doesn't nest, it won't leave until it has what it came for and it came...." He trailed off, his eyes falling from your form.

"For me." You finished quietly. "It came for me."

Jungkook bit his lip and nodded, refusing to make eye contact with you.

You released a heavy sigh.

"I guess it' pretty clear what we have to do." You stated. "I have to go out there."

An immediate uproar of protest sounded from the men around you, each one saying the same thing......No.

You frowned, your blue eyes carefully studying the men infront of  you, as your thumb instinctively caressed the infants cheek as she grew upset at their loud protests.

"I am not putting this up for debate anymore." You growled out. "I have been running from this ever since I got here. I've worked so hard to avoid this, but the time has come for me to stop running. I'm sick of playing the damsel in distress, I'm sick of all of you constantly fussing over me and treating me like some kind of doll each of you fight over. I know you all care deeply about me, I know you all....love me. But it's time to stop thinking with your hearts and start thinking with your brains. If I don't go out there, these people die. Every. SIngle. One. Of. Them. You may be okay with their blood on your hands but I am not. I'm done running."

The men stood in amazement at your powerful, yet calm speech, their hearts thudding in their chests as they realized the inevitable... You were right. You had always been right an dthey didn't allow themselves to see that. They didn't allo themselves to see you as a heroine because they wanted so badly for you to be a damsel in distress. They wanted nothing more than to swoop in and save you, and be your hero, but the sad truth was.......you didn't need a hero...You were your own hero, and you were about to save everyone's lives.....including theirs.

A silence fell over everyone in the group, not an awkward or uncomfortable silence, not a silence before the storm... no. This silence was their way of saying two very important, very specific things....."I love you." and "Goodbye."

You offered them a small smile of reassurance, gently handing the baby girl to JIn, tears filling her eyes as she reached for you once again, you smiled sadly and grabbed her chubby hands.

"Not this time babygirl." You whispered as your eyes locked on Yoongi's.

"You are a great king and I believe that you will rule not with anger and fear like your father but with kindness and valor. You will lead your people into a new era of happiness, you will make a change." You stated.

Yoongi nodded, biting his bottom lip as tears sprang into his eyes.

You looked at Hoseok.

"Look's like it's my turn to die."

Hoseok immediately hugged you to him tightly, tears already rolling off his cheeks as he gripped your shirt tightly.

"You are my everything. I-I can't lose you."

You puled away slowly, using your thumb to wipe away his tears, looking over at Jimin.

"Promise me you'll keep reaching for the stars okay?"

Jimin could only nod at your words, sniffles sounding from him.

You looked at Jungkook, your hands holding his face.

"You are my best friend, my loyal companion and I will miss you terribly. You may be a pedophile but I promise not to judge you if you marry Cassandra."

Jungkook  chuckled sadly, placing his hand over yours.

"I still don't know what that means."

You smiled and glanced at Jin.

"You and Jimin need to make up. You're both so caught up in the past that neither of you can even look forward to the future. I know Jimin blames you for her death, but you needed someone to help you cope too. You haven't fully gotten over your mothers death that's why you're constantly sleeping around with women and treating them like trash, because they keep your mind off of it. You two are brothers, you both suffered losses, it's time to swallow your pride and accept it."

Jin nodded, stroking the babies head.

"Thank you." He started, teary eyed. "For everything."

You offered him a smile and looked at Namjoon.

"And last but not least-"

Your words were cut short as the sorcerer hugged you tightly, his hands tangling in your hair as he sobbed uncontrollably, you patted his back soothingly, tears beginning to form in your own eyes.

"Come on, Joonie," You started teary eyed. "Let's not make this worse than it has to be."

Namjoon nodded and slowly pulled away from you.

"I'll miss you...More than anything."

You simply nodded, turning your body towards the door to the outside, the door to your death.

"Go back downstairs and wait until nightfall, it should be safe by then."

The men left wordlessly, descending the staircase to the cell room, each of them too scared to look back at you. You could hear the baby girl crying for you as they left and your heart tore in two.

You swallowed your feelings, slowly walking up the rest of the stairs and opening the door to the outside world.

Ruin.

That's all you could see..

Blood and bodies filled lined the streets as the fire around you slowly burned everything to the ground, the dragon's roars becoming angrier by the second as it searched for you fervently, clawing at every building it could find.

You took a deep breath, slowly approaching the town square where what was once the Great Hall was now a burning pile of rubble.

The dragon had it's back turned to you, completely unaware of your presence.

You looked around one last time, your body shaking as you thought of your family and your old life, tears forming in your eyes as you thought of the new life you started here, in The Four Kingdoms. You were a better person than you were when you first arrived, you were smarter, braver, and much wiser. You were prepared to give up everything to save the lives of these people.... and that's exactly what you were gong to do.

"Hey!"

Your yell caught the attention of the beast, stopping it in it's tracks as it's head slowly turned around to face you, it's deep blue eyes piercing your soul as it's forked tongue peeked from it's mouth. It moved from the building it was previously searchjng for, it's feet slowly advancing towards you.

Tears filled your eyes as you watched the dragon stare evilly at you.

"Go on." You said boldy, tears filling your eyes. "I'm not scared of you anymore."

The dragon seemed to be smiling as it slowly crawled closer, it's giant body dwarfing yours in size.

You glared at the monster.

"You know what? No." You said, causing the dragon to tilt it's head in confusion. "You don't get to kill me. You don't get to decide when I die. I do. I am the master of my fate here not you. I am done doing what is expected of me, I'm done being treated like I don't matter. I am not scared of you."

You stepped closer to the beast anger and determination swimming in your blue eyes, causing the dragon to stop walking towards you, fear radiating off of it's body as your blue eyes began to glow.

"I'm done being a background role, I'm done running from you and I am done sacrificing."

You marched straight up to the dragon, watching as it lowered it's head to you, no longer threatening you.

"My name is Y/n, Y/l/n, and I am not a princess, I am not a damsel, and I am not a coward."

"I am your Rider."

A sudden burst of energy pulsed through your body as your hand came into contact with the dragon's head, your body shaking at the new-found power that surged through you.

You stared wide-eyed at the silver dragon infront of you, watching as it lowered it's whole body to the ground, bowing in submission and reverence to you, accepting you as it's master.

your mind was cloudy, only one thought flooding through your mind...

It really sucks that no one was around to see that.
