Chapter 33: Deserve
"The moment you ask if you deserve better, you do."
-Anonymous
Jungkook's heart pounded in his chest as he made his way down the dimly lit hallway, his feet padding softly against the dark wooden floors, as his nervous eyes scanned for your room.
He was a jerk.
And he knew that. The way he behaved was ungentlemanly and just plain rude. He had worked hard to achieve the level of friendship that he had with you and he wasn't about to let everything go to waste because of his childish actions.
He was going to apologize to you. Tonight.
The swishing if his bed robes filled the halls as he began to move swifter, silently praying that you weren't asleep.
His body stopped infront of your room, his golden eyes scanning the door as a small smile formed on his face, his hand moving slowly to touch the door knob-
"They all had blue eyes."
Jungkook's hand froze at the familiar voice of the sorcerer, his heart plummeting to his chest. Why was Hoseok in your room at this hour? What were the two of you talking about?
"Like me?"
His golden eyes softened as your small, curious voice filled his ears. He listened as the sorcerer chuckled.
"Yes. Like you. Each one of them had seen dragon fire in their lifetime...thus their blue eyes."
Jungkook raised an eyebrow and leaned his ear against the door, trying to hear better.
"Why hasn't anyone told me about them? What happened?"
Hoseok sighed.
"When The Great Wall was built, the dragons fled and the Riders fled with them. Some people don't believe that they even existed. Some say that they are just hiding until the Wall comes down.. and some say that they all died in the War."
Jungkook listened as you sighed.
"If what you've told me is true, then there may be a way for me to tear down the wall and not..die."
Jungkook's golden eyes widened.
"Y/n, the mission is dangerous, you do realize that you could lose everything. Your family, your friends......your life."
The soft sound of your sigh filled the air, and the golden prince couldn't resist the temptation to peek into your room. His eyes softened as they landed on your figure.
Your h/l, h/c hair cascaded down your neck, your cream, lightweight shirt, dropped to reveal your prominent collar bone, your trousers hugged your legs in a modest manner and your blue eyes were dim as you stared at the sorcerer beside of you.
"I know." You breathed. "I've been thrown into a land I've never known before. Ive been bitten by monsters, robbed by thugs and almost killed for being a witch....and I guarantee that two days ago I wouldn't have even begun to consider this as an option...I would've told you that you were insane....but I've come to realize that it isn't just about me. It isn't about what I want or what I need....it's about the children that live here, it's about the mothers and fathers who work hard to feed their kids, it's about the royals who try and try to keep their people healthy....it's about the people."
Jungkook felt his heart clench in pain as he listened to you speak, his hands balling into fists.
"Maybe I am here by accident, Maybe I have absolutely no purpose in this land, but one thing I know for sure is that I didn't come this far, to only come this far."
Hoseok smiled at you softly, his tangerine gaze dulling to a pale yellow as he stared into your blue orbs.
He admired you.
You were unlike anyone he had ever known before, your confidence, happiness, and bravery were qualities he had never seen before in his life. Your presence had made a lasting impact on him and his heart, and he simply adored you.
Your passion to help his people, your love and compassion for his land, drive him to the point of madness. You were kind and unselfish, you laughed in the face of death and didn't give a second thought when it came to helping others you were selfless and beautiful.
Hoseok's large hands suddenly met your warm cheek, his now yellow eyes scanning over your face in pure adoration.
"I love you." He breathed. "So, so much."
You didn't even have time to react as his warm lips met yours softly, passion radiating off of the sorcerer in front of you as he pulled you closer. His lips moved against your slowly as his hands tangled themselves in your soft locks.
Your body instantly reacted, hesitantly kissing him back and wrapping your arms around his neck. No man had ever kissed you this way. With such passion and adoration.
Your heart thrummed loudly in your chest and the both of you slowly parted for air, his yellow eyes staring into yours as a small smile creeped onto his face.
"If you really want to do this, we can leave tomorrow night. We won't tell the others."
You nodded, a deep blush raising on your cheeks.
"Okay."
Jungkook watched with wide, teary eyes as the sorcerer pecked your cheek softly, before tucking you into bed. The golden prince turned on his heel, his feet swiftly dragging him to his room. He slammed the door shut angrily and slowly slid down its wooden surface, his head resting in his hands as the vision of you two kissing constantly replayed in his mind.
Your beautiful, innocent eyes staring up as Hoseok slowly moved in and-
He began to pull at his own hair in frustration.
What had he done wrong? Where had he screwed up so majorly in his life that someone thought to punish him with that?! You were his everything...his rock, his best friend, his first love and yet it seems like he is, once again inferior to someone older than him. Why couldn't he, just once, come in first? Why did it always have to be someone else getting all the glory? Why couldn't he have the one thing that he need the most? Why couldn't he have you?
Jungkook stares at the floor, watching as his tears made wet spots on the wooden floor.
He lost his mother, his father never loved him and his brothers treated him like he didn't even matter. You were the one person who treated him like he was an actual human being. You didn't see his title, or his crown, or his responsibilities....you saw him. And that was something Jungkook had never experienced before.
You were like a breath of fresh air in his dreary life, a spring day after a cold, harsh winter. You were his savior and angel, the only person he could depend on fully....and yet...you loved someone else.
Someone who wasn't him.
_______________________________
You smiled happily as you slipped toward the dining room, the clicking of your boots filling the Great Hall as you happily hummed a small tune to yourself. You were in a great mood. You and Hoseok had been up most of the night planning your journey to The Great Wall and trying to find out a way for you to take it down and not...well die.
You were excited, things were finally going your way.
You slowly pushed open the large doors to the dining area, the large wooden table already filled with various foods and drinks as the other princes and kings entered the hall, some still wearing their sleeping robes.
"Good morning!" You greeted chirpily, causing everyone to stare at you curiously.
"Good morning y/n." Jimin greeted with a large smile. "You seem to be in a good mood this morning."
You nodded and took a seat beside of the silver haired prince.
"I am indeed ChimChim."
Jimin's nose scrunched at the use of his nickname, but he remained silent, his heart becoming light at your happy smile, one that he hadn't seen in a few days.
Everyone sat silently after that, light and happy conversation being made as you all continued to eat your breakfast.
It seemed as though the morning would be peaceful.
But you were wrong.
The dining hall doors suddenly slammed open, revealing a disheveled looking Jungkook. His face was pale and ashy, and dark bags sat under his eyes as he glared daggers at you. He was still adorned in his sleeping robes and his chestnut hair was thrown about in all places.
"Good of you to join us, Jungkook." Yoongi spoke. "Rough nights sleep?"
Jungkook completely ignored the raven haired king, his golden eyes still completely fixated on you.
You shuffled slightly under his gaze, beginning to feel self conscious and uncomfortable as he stared directly at you harshly.
"Jungkook? Is something wrong?" Jin asked cautiously. "You aren't yourself."
Jungkook cocked his head to the side, still sending you the hardest glare you'd ever seen.
You cleared your throat nervously.
"I-Is there something I can help you with?" You stuttered out.
"Why did it have to be him?"
Your eyes widened at the princes words, the whole table falling into an uncomfortable silence as Jungkook continued to stare at you.
"What are you talking about?" You breathed.
"Why did it have to be Hoseok?" Jungkook repeated.
You frowned and casted your gaze onto the floor, suddenly finding it very interesting.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about."
Jungkook scoffed.
"Don't try to play coy with me." He growled. "I saw everything last night. I saw the two of you. I watched him kiss you. And more importantly I watched you enjoy it!"
You stared at the prince wide-eyed, your heart racing in your chest. How did he see that? You two were alone!
"Look Jungkook," You started with a sigh. "It's not what you think it is."
Jungkook frowned, standing up from his chair and placing his closed fist on the table.
"Do not take me for some fool, y/n. Do not insult my intelligence! I saw the two of you kissing!"
You nodded.
"Yes...we did..kiss. But how is that any of your business?! What I do in my time has nothing to do with you! I don't understand why you're suddenly being like this!" You stated.
Jungkook suddenly moved his arms across the table, sending cups and plate crashing into the floor as he send a hard punch to the table, causing your body to jump back in fear.
"Why am I being like this?! I'm being like this because you insist on constantly hurting me! You have betrayed my trust time and time again. I made my feelings clear to you last night and you just stomp them into the ground and act like they are of no relevance! Well they are! I love you! And I plan to marry you one day! i plan on giving you my everything and making you my top priority! That may not mean anything to you! But it means everything to me! So forgive me if I am hurt when I see another man kissing you and putting his hands on you! I should be the only one touching you, I should be the only one holding you and I should be the only one kissing you!"
The room grew silent as Jungkook finished his speech, his golden eyes narrowing on you as his chest heaved in anger. Your blue eyes watched as a single tear fell down his cheek.
"I've gone through too much," he started quietly, his voice cracking slightly as he stared at you. "I deserve to be happy for once."
