Chapter 25: Death
"Death is the greatest of all human blessings."
-Secrates
The town square was booming with life as the eight of you were all thrown onto the hard, stone ground. You were all positioned on your knees, each of you on display for all the citizens of Pamelia to see.
Nathaniel had called the whole town to the square so they could witness the executions that he had planned for each and everyone of you.
Your stomach churned in fear, and anxiety as you watched a large smile grace Nathaniel's gruff features. He walked across the line, giving a smug smile to each and everyone of you.
You wanted nothing more than to pound in his face right then and there, however the sword held to your throat ceased all actions you may have taken.
Your glowing, blue eyes moved over to glance at Yoongi. The Dragon prince knelt beside of you, his head hanging low as his tangerine gaze remained on the stone ground. His raven locks covering the majority of his face.
You couldn't help but feel guilty. If it weren't for you, he wouldn't have come to Pamelia, he wouldn't have gotten his hopes up, and he wouldn't have killed his father.
Your eyes trailed away from the silent prince and toward the crowd of villagers that had gathered around you. A little girl caught your attention, her hair was a soft shade of gold and her eyes were a bright golden color. She stared at you, but the look she gave you was not one of hate, or disgust as all the others were. No, the look she gave you was one of interest and pity.
You tried your best to comfort her, showing her a tight-lipped smile as a way of saying "it's okay." But the young girl continued to stare directly at you.
"People of Pamilia,"
You moved your gaze away from her and back towards the arrogant king who began to speak.
"This day is a day of great turmoil, a day of liars and cheats, a day of immeasurable betrayal, not only to the throne, but to you, the people."
You almost scoffed at his words, your blue eyes rolling in your skull before you continued listening to him.
Nathaniel moved to stand in front of Yoongi. His large hand reaching out and grabbing a handful of his raven locks, pulling him off the stone ground and displaying him to all the people.
Yoongi released a groan of pain, but didn't fight or struggle against the Bear King, and you couldn't help but wonder why.
"This man- This monster has betrayed your trust. You offered him warmth, and shelter and in return he brought a dark curse upon you all!" He announced loudly.
You struggled against the ropes binding your hands as you watch Yoongi grit his teeth in pain as Nathaniel dragged him around by his hair.
"You have been betrayed! You've been taken as fools by a prince you once traded with! A man whom you once called friend."
The villagers began to talk amongst themselves, each of them sending Yoongi glances as they took in Nathaniel's words. Yoongi remained silent, his face set in stone as he watched each of the people converse with one another.
You moved your blue eyes over to look at Jimin, who's golden eyes were already trained on you, worry evident on his features. You offered him a reassuring smile and turned your attention back towards the smiling King.
"This beloved prince has brought a witch to your city."
The crowd gasps. Each of their eyes going wide and their voices getting more anxious and worried as they urged Nathaniel to continue.
"A woman who has seen dragon fire, and lived to tell the tale, she has broken down The Great Barrier, and her flame attracts the treacherous beasts! The monsters shall come and feast on the flesh of your children and loved ones, and it is all because of this foolish prince!"
Nathaniel shoved Yoongi down onto the ground, his large smile never leaving his face as he watched Yoongi grunt in pain and try to move.
"Prince Yoongi could never be good enough to rule!" He yelled into the crowd. "He could give the people everything they want and he still wouldn't be good enough! He's betrayed his kingdom, he's betrayed his father and he's even betrayed himself by falling in love with a woman he know he cannot have!"
Nathaniel holds back a laugh as he turns to you and yanks you up by your arms. You can hear the other men protesting in the background, but your focus is on the burly man in front of you.
"Behold, the witch!"
The crowd immediately begins to panic, screaming is heard from women and the men have begun to advance towards you slowly.
"Kill the witch!"
"She'll drag us all to hell!"
"BURN HER!"
Your ears were ringing with the loud voices of the villagers, it took everything in your power not to cover them with your hands. Your heart was hurting and your chest felt tight and constricted, like you could have a panic attack at any given moment.
"Put her on the fire!!"
"TAKE OUT HER EYES!"
"Kill her!"
Tears began to spring to your eyes as your chin was suddenly gripped and you found yourself face to face with the green eyed king. A large smile eveident on his face and the strong smell of alcohol on his breath.
"You've lost, witch."
Your heart stopped at his words, because you knew that they were true. You and everyone you had come to love was going to die and it was all your fault. Tears poured down your cheeks as you stared up at the bearded man.
You hated him.
You hated him so much.
But you couldn't do anything.
You could only accept defeat. You had been beaten and this was the end of your story.
"Is this truly what we have become?!"
You jumped back at the booming voice that over took the crowd. Your blue eyes snapping to find the source of the voice that made everyone stop in their tracks.
Jungkook stood tall, his chestnut hair ruffled and tousled by the restless night in the cell, his hands bound in front of his with thick ropes, and his golden eyes held a determination that you had never seen before, a glint of hope and anger that when mixed together could only bring about suffering to anyone who got in his way.
"Have we become a fearful, foolish people?!" He yelled. "Have we truly stooped so low that we would kill an innocent just because of the sayings of one man?!"
Nathaniel scoffed, releasing your chin and shoving you away, his forest green eyes fixed on Jungkook.
"She has even enchanted your prince, her magic has taken over his mind and now he runs to her aid."
Jungkook sent a hard glare to Nathaniel.
"I am not bewitched. I am trying to stop these people from ending an innocent life because of the fear you have planted in their minds!"
"And what do you suggest we do?!" Nathaniel snapped. "She is a witch! And she will only reign down destruction upon these people!"
Jungkooks golden eyes darkened.
"You are the only one bringing destruction." He stated coldly. "You have been a plague on this land from the day you were born. All you have ever brought, all you will ever bring is darkness."
Nathaniel frowned, his gaze hardening on the golden prince.
"I'm trying to help these people-"
"You are trying to help yourself!" Jungkook snapped.
You watched with wide eyes as his chest heaved, heavy with his labored breaths, you have never seen Jungkook so angry, and the soft made your whole body shake in fear and anxiety.
"You care nothing for these people!" Jungkook continued. "You are doing this for yourself, because you are selfish and cruel, you have plunged your Kingdom into a time of murder and hatred and I will NOT allow you to destroy the goodness within these people, within MY PEOPLE!"
You jumped slightly at Jungkooks angry voice.
Nathaniel remained silent as Jungkook continued. The golden prince began to address the crowd.
"Lady Y/n is a good, kind-hearted woman that I am proud to call my friend. She has seen dark days and has been plunged into an unfamiliar realm where she has come close to death on more than one occasion."
The crowd seemed to be contemplating his words, even some of the guards from the dragon kingdom were intently listening.
Your blue eyes sparkled as you listened to Jungkook speak so highly of you. Your heart began to beat rapidly and a warm feeling spread through your chest.
"Her heart is he most pure and gentle of any I have ever experienced. It is true that her eyes shine with dragon fire, but the fire in her eyes speaks of a story that she'd never tell."
Jungkooks golden gaze fell on you, his face gentle and soft as he stared at you with an unknown emotion.
"She is kind, and strong and broken all at once and Even though she lost everything, she was brave, and fate listens to brave."
The crowd was silent. No more rambling or yelling. No more shuffling of the feet, only silence filled the air as you stared directly at Jungkook, your blue eyes wide.
Jungkook smiled softly at oh before turning back to the crowd.
"As for the prince, Min Yoongi is not his father, in fact he is more the man than his father ever was, and I believe that if given the chance, he could break down the wall the separates his Kingdom, and lead his people out of the darkness and into a new era. An era of light and life, a time of prosperity and loyalty, but if you allow Nathaniel to lead you, if you allow him to control you.....you will never EVER see anything but darkness."
Yoongi stared at Jungkook with wide eyes. He had just betrayed him, and yet he defended him so earnestly and kindly. Yoongi wanted to thank him, and tell him how much it meant that he would say that, but Jungkook moved his golden eyes to meet Yoongi's orange ones and Yoongi froze.
Jungkooks eyes were not soft and sympathetic like he expected, but cold and distant, and filled to the brim with disgust and hatred for the raven haired prince.
Yoongi knew he deserved it. He knew that Jungkook only said those things to gain your freedom, and he knew that once they escaped this town Jungkook would probably kill Yoongi himself.
The people seemed to agree with Jungkook as they all began to slowly back away from you and the Bear King.
Panic set in on Nathaniel's face.
His plan had gone horribly wrong.
"Are you all fools?!" He shouted. "The prince is enchanted! He only says those things so that you will allow the witch to live!"
He looked around the crowd panicked.
"Guards arrest them!"
The guards stayed still, their eyes landing on Yoongi. Nathaniel frowned.
"I said arrest them!"
A single guard stepped forward, his sword in his hand. You began to feel frightened until he threw his sword down onto the ground, showing Yoongi his allegiance. The rest of the guards followed suit and Nathaniel scoffed.
You flinched as Nathaniel shoved roughly, his right hand reaching behind him and pulling out his long sword and pointing in your direction.
His green eyes were glazed over in anger and it appeared as though all sanity had left his mind as he advanced towards you.
"If you fools won't kill the witch then I will!"
And with that he lunged forward.
Screams and gasps were heard from the crowd and the sound of metal meeting flesh filled your ears.
Huh.
You thought being stabbed would hurt more.
You opened your blue eyes that you didn't even realized you had shut. But when you saw the sight infront of you, you wished you'd kept them closed.
He stood facing you, his back turned towards Nathaniel and a blood covered sword sticking out of his chest. His eyes were a soft yellow as he tried his best to smile at you. A small stream of blood trickled down the corner of his mouth and you watched as he began to speak
"Y-Y/n."
You let out a gasp as he fell onto the stone ground, his body limp from the blood loss.
You moved over to him as quickly as you could, your hands moving to his body as you began to cradle his head in your lap.
"N-No pl-please." You stuttered our as tears fell from your blue eyes.
He smiled up at you softly, his hand reaching up to cup your soft face as his dimming eyes stared lovingly up at you.
"I-It's okay y/n."
"It's not okay!" You sobbed back. "Th-This isn't okay!"
He continued to smile.
"I-I don't have much time left, s-so I need to say something."
You nodded as sobs racked your body.
"Y/n, I'm dying." He started sadly. "I'm dying and I'm sorry. I'm sorry for hurting you, I-I'm sorry for using you. You didn't deserve this."
You shook your head, your ears listening as the angry crowd began to move in on Nathaniel and disarm him.
"It's okay." You breathed. "I forgive you."
He smiled, his thumb wiping away your tears as they fell.
"Wh-when I'm gone, P-Promise me, y-you won't cry for too long."
You shook your head.
"I-I can't do that."
"Y/n, please."
"This isn't fair!" You shouted. "You shouldn't die! You don't deserve to die! Please just stay alive for me. We-We can heal you, w-we can-"
He frowned at you, his eyes slowly starting to become a light shade of gray.
"Don't worry for me," He stated quietly. "Death is just another adventure."
He watched you as your body shook with tears and he spoke again.
"If I did anything right in my life. It was loving you."
Your blue eyes shot open in shock at his words.
"Wh-What?" You asked silently.
He smiled knowingly at you as he continued.
"I love you, i love you now, I will love you when I'm dead and if there is a life after that, then I shall continue to love you."
Your hands began to shake as you opened your mouth, trying desperately to find the right words, but nothing escaped your mouth.
You could only watch as the color drained from his eyes and his hand fell limply onto the cold ground.
And that's the story of how Jung Hoseok died.
