Chapter 21: Fathers
"There's nothing worse than a man that can be everything to everybody, except a father to his own child."
- Anonymous
"Father." Yoongi's voice was stern as he shoved the wooden doors open, his eyes shining a deep red color as his gaze fell upon the king.
"Yoongi!" The king exclaimed happily. "You're just in time! I was just about to begin without you." He smiled.
Yoongi's face remained stoic, anger clearly evident on his features.
"We need to talk." He stated.
The king nodded, waving his hand in the air.
"And we will, after we have planned the ceremony." He said. "Now, do you think we should have a feast before or after the witch is dead? I personally-"
"No." Yoongi said firmly. "We are going to talk now."
The Kings smile fell at his sons harsh tone, and he watched as Yoongi moved to step closer to him, not giving him any time to speak.
"You can't kill her." Yoongi stated boldly.
The king chuckled lightly.
"Kill who my boy? Your horse? I was just joking when I said we'd have to eat her-"
"Not the horse."
The king's eyebrow raised.
"Then who, Yoongi?"
"Y/n."
The Kings eyes widened at his sons words, shock crossing his face.
"What?" He breathed.
"You cannot kill her." Yoongi repeated. "I won't allow it."
The King ran his hand through his dark locks in confusion.
"What do you mean? Why are you behaving this way? Have you been drinking?" He asked.
Yoongi shook his head fervently.
"I am sober. And I am serious. You're not going to kill her."
The Kings gaze hardened on his black haired son.
"If this is a joke, it is far from funny." He stated.
"It is not a joke father." Yoongi took a step forward. "Release the maiden."
The king's eyes began to turn red as he listened to his sons demand, anger settling in the pits of his stomach.
"It seems that you have forgotten your place, my son. Shall I have you tied to the whipping post to remind you just how worthless you are?"
Yoongi took another step forward.
"Your threats are empty. They don't scare me anymore." Yoongi said coldly. "You don't scare me anymore."
The king chuckled heartily.
"Well, well, it seems you've grown a spine on your journey here. I would be proud of you, if you weren't making me so angry."
Yoongi's eyes narrowed.
"Let. Her. Go."
Yoongi's father growled out lowly, barred his teeth in aggression.
"Why are you fighting for her life?! You and I both know that the only way to bring down that wall, is to summon a dragon and offer the girl as a sacrifice! Do you not care about our people?! They are starving because of that cursed wall!"
"The Wall was built by us, it is our own fault that we are a cursed kingdom, and we must take responsibility for the choices that were made, we cannot force others to carry our burden."
The king's face darkened and he took a few steps closer to his son.
"Our Kingdom was cursed because of the jealousy of others! They wanted our wealth, our power and our kingdom. They made us suffer just to make themselves feel better about their worthless lives!"
"No ones life is worthless! No one is expendable! It isn't right to wish pain on someone just because they hurt you first! You can not punish the innocent for the sins of others!"
The king stepped forward, his footsteps heavy against the wood of the floor.
"I can do as I please. I am the king."
"Then behave like a king!" Yoongi snapped.
"I am!" The king shouted. "I was born of royal blood, raised to rule my people, and taught to make the hardest decisions. Decisions that worms like you could never understand!"
Yoongi glared at his father.
"Your are a king by blood only, in your heart you are nothing more than a coward."He started. "If you were a king you wouldn't have to force others to fight your battles, you wouldn't have to kill your own wife, you wouldn't have allowed yourself to become a heartless monster!"
The king remained silent as he watched his son breath heavily, anger radiating off of him in waves.
"So that's what this is about." The king breathed. "You're angry with me because I killed your mother. Because I had her head chopped off and thrown to the dogs!"
Yoongi frowned, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists as he tried to maintain his composure.
"No." He said. "I have moved past my mother's death. I have matured. No, I am angry with you because you are trying to take away the only person in this world who has ever shown me true kindness, you're trying to rip away the only piece of happiness that my pathetic life has ever known, your trying to kill the woman I love, and I'm not going to let that happen."
The king's red eyes hardened.
"I should have known." He spat. "I should have guessed that you had developed feelings for that whore. You always had a soft spot for pretty things."
Yoongi continued to glare at his father.
"I am done discussing this. You will release her and the others."
The king chuckled.
"Or what?"
Yoongi unsheathed his sword suddenly, moving the cold metal to touch his father's clothed stomach.
The king's eyes grew wide at his sons behavior.
"Or I will run my blade through you."
The king chckled nervously.
"Y-You wouldn't. I-I'm your father!"
Yoongi's eyes hardened as he applied more pressure to the blade.
"You were never a father to me."
The king stared wide eyed at his son, raising his hands in surrender, and nodding his head slowly.
"V-Very well, I-I'll release them. J-Just lower your sword first."
Yoongi was hesitant at first, but began to slowly move his sword away from his father's gut.
The king struck into action, his foot coming up to kick Yoongi in his stomach, causing the ravenette to clutch his waist and release a groan of pain.
The king took his chance and pulled out his own sword, watching in amusement as Yoongi regained his composure.
"Did you really think that you could get the best of me? I was the one who trained you! I taught you everything you know!"
Yoongi lunged at his father, the sound of metal on metal filling the rooms as the two of them sparred.
"I'm going to kill you." The king huffed as he hit his sword against Yoongi. "And when I've finished with you, I'm going to go down to the dungeon and kill all of your friends."
Yoongi yelled in frustration, swinging his sword to swipe across his father's stomach, but missing by a few inches.
"And then I'm going to take the witch back to the wall, and I'm going to watch as those dragons burn her alive. I'm going to listen to her scream and plea for her life!"
The king brought his sword down in a hard blow to Yoongi's, causing it to fall to the floor, with a loud 'CLANK'
"Or maybe I'll put that pretty little body of hers to good use before I throw her to the beasts. After all she is such a pretty, young thing."
The king chuckled, running his hand through his hair to remove it from his vision as he pointed his sword at his son.
"It's a shame really. You could've been such a great king, but your kindness got in the way."
Yoongi breathed heavily, moving his hand to the back of his trousers where a dagger was hidden. His fingers danced across the hilt of the weapon and he swiftly pulled it from his clothes, dodging his father's sword and shoving the dagger straight into his stomach.
The king's eyes widened, his mouth opening and gasping for breath. The once vibrant red of his eyes beginning to dim into a pale yellow.
Yoongi could feel his father's warm blood trickling down his own hands, his father's eyes moving to meet his.
The king's sword fell to the ground and his arms fell limp to his sides, as Yoongi leaned in to whisper in his ear.
"I choose to be kind, because it makes me happy, but I will defend my boundaries and loved ones without hesitation. And If you ever try to come after y/n again make no mistake. I will not leave her. I will always be there waiting, watching, keeping to the shadows, but when she needs me, I'll step out and I'll defend her. I'll protect what's mine."
Yoongi pulled the dagger from his father's body, his red eyes watching as it fell limply to the floor, the life slowly leaving his eyes.
The black haired prince, wiped the blood from his dagger and placed it back into the waistband of his trousers.
The door to the room suddenly swang open to reveal a disheveled looking Hoseok, his orange hair was sticking up all over his head and his orange eyes widened as he took in the dead body of the king.
"Yoongi, wh-what happened?!"
Yoongi moved over to his father's desk, grabbing the ring of keys before turning back to the sorcerer.
"We need to get out of this town." He stated.
Hoseok only nodded, his eyes still glued to the dead body that continued to bleed on the floor.
"D-Did you kill your father?" He asked.
Yoongi frowned.
"We need to move quickly. The guards will be here any moment and when they see this, they'll lock down the town."
Hoseok nodded, following Yoongi as he ran out of the building and towards the prison.
'Oh Yoongi,' Hoseok thought. 'What have you done?'
