Chapter 20: Heartbreak

"I thought for a moment that you were healing me, turns out, you were only making me worse."
  -Anonymous

The night air was cold.

The breeze would blow in through the barred windows of the prison, and sweep across your clothed legs in an attempt to make you shiver.

Your tears had dried a long time ago, your eyes probably running out of the salty liquid.

You cried for two hours.

You sobbed over the friendship you had lost, the hurt you felt, and the betrayal that you faced.

Your heart was broken.

You mentally thanked god for being placed in your own cell, and being separated from the rest of the men.

You didn't want them to see you.

You felt like a fool.

You trusted him. You told him everything about you, from your home town to your sick mother. But he played you. He lied to you.

He betrayed you.

You cared for Yoongi, and you played yourself into thinking that he cared about you too.

A part of you didn't want to believe his words. You wanted to think that he would come storming into the prison and rescue you, that he would tear the shackles off of your feet and everyone would be safe.

But the only way you were leaving this jail, was if the king wished it.

You released a heavy sigh, and leaned your head against the stone wall of the prison cell, the chains on your feet rubbing against your bruised ankles.

You could hear the men in the other cell conversing with one another, trying to come up with an escape plan, each one of them livid with anger against the raven haired prince as they spoke.

You remained silent, closing your eyes in hopes of getting a few hours of rest before you were forced into a cursed kingdom and killed.

"Y/n?"

Your blue eyes snapped open at Taehyung's deep voice.

You were in slight shock.

With all the Yoongi business, you had completely forgotten about yours and Taehyung's scuffle at the stream. It seemed like such a meager thing now.

"Yes?" You whispered back.

It was odd, the amount of comfort you found in simply hearing his voice. It seemed to provide you warmth in the cold, lonely cell.

"I'm sorry."

He breathed out.

You didn't know what he was apologizing for: For treating you like dirt at the stream, or for Yoongi betraying you.

You nodded your head.

"It's okay." You whispered back. "I forgive you."

You heard Taehyung sniffle.

Was he crying?

"I swear on my life, y/n." He started. "I will get you out of here."

You frowned deeply.

"No."

"What?"

"I said no." You stated.

You heard Taehyung shuffle.

"What do you mean? Don't you want to get out of this prison? Don't you want your life to be saved?!" He asked fervently.

You sighed, shaking your head.

"Of course I do, but." You breathed. "How are we supposed to get out of here before sunrise? How could we sneak seven people last a whole city filled to the brim with guards? How could we all make it out alive?" You asked silently.

Taehyung grunted in frustration.

"We would find a way. We're still planning and-"

"No." You interrupted.

"Y/n, you can't just say no. We can get through this! We can save your life! You can't stop hoping!"

"Look around you Tae!" You yelled, causing the other men to fall deadly silent. "We're in a prison! You can't pretend that its okay anymore. You can't fake it anymore. You can't just imagine that everything will turn out okay because it won't. its hopeless, and I know It will never get better. So I'm done crying, I'm done fighting and I'm done trying. I'm just done."

Tears sprang to Taehyung's lavender eyes at your hopeless words. In all the time he's known you, you had never once been hopeless. Sad and angry sure. But never hopeless.

"So you're just going to give up?" He asked, a small amount of anger lacing his tone.

"Letting go doesn't mean giving up, but rather accepting things that cannot be." You stated quietly.

"How could you say that? After everything you've been through, after everything you've survived!? How could you just be finished with everything so quickly?!"

"Don't judge me!" You snarled. "You couldn't handle half of the crap I've dealt with. There's a reason why I do the things I do. There's a reason why I am who I am."

Taehyung sighed at your words, bringing himself to calm down.

"I know that." He stated quietly. "I know it's been hard for you. I understand that. But you're not a quitter."

Taehyung sighed, running a hand through his messy blond locks.

"You're not weak. You're brave and strong for fighting to get back up. When you felt the world falling apart around you,  you found strength in your struggle and pushed to move forward. You may still feel heartbroken at times, but you know that the best is yet to come." Taehyung sighed. "Not giving up is something to be proud of."

You sighed and closed your eyes shut, trying not to allow the tears to fall from your eyes.

"I don't let go easily. I fight for what I want., and it takes a lot for me to give up on something or someone. I know I can't just throw away the hard work and time I've put into it. I know I can't just give up because times are hard." You sniffed. "But sometimes, giving up is the only option left."

Tears began to stream freely down your face as you stared at the stone Wall infront of you. Your cell only being lit but the light of the full moon outside.

"Nothing worth having comes easy." Taehyung stated. "Giving up is the only sure way to fail."

"But how much pain do I have to go through until giving up is okay?" You asked as you choked down a sob. "How many times do I have to be betrayed just so I can finally take a break from disappointment?"

You sighed, leaning your head back against the wall.

"I just fell like I'm waiting for something that will never happen." You stated.

Taehyung opened his mouth to speak, but his words were interrupted by the creaking of the prison door, signaling everyone in the room that someone had just entered.

Was it sunrise already?

Your blue eyes darted towards the barred window in confusion, only to find that the moon was still hanging high in the sky.

You moved your gaze back to your cell door, listening as heavy footsteps came closer to you.

Curiosity was eating away at you.

Who was here?

The unknown man came and stood infront of your cell door, the dim lighting of the prison and the hood covering his face did very well at keeping his identity secret.

A kings guard stood tall beside of him and you watched as he pulled keys from his belt and u locked the door to your cell, allowing the unknown man to step in your presence.

"You can go." The familiar voice spoke quietly as he nodded towards the guard. "And remember, if my father learns of this, I'll slice your throat."

Your eyes widened at the threat.

The guard nodded sheepishly, leaving as his footsteps marched towards the exit, closing the door with a loud creak.

The hooded man turned back to face you, his ringed fingers coming up to remove his hood.

As the cloak fell away, his face was revealed, lit by the dim candle light.

Yoongi.

You immediately turn your back towards the man, cuddling yourself up in the damp corner.

You heard Yoongi released a heavy sigh at your actions, clearly seeing your anger.

"Y/n,"

You remained silent, hoping that the raven haired prince would take the hint that you had no interest in seeing him.

But he didn't.

"I know you don't want to see me in fact, I'm probably the last person you want to talk to," He started with a heavy sigh. " but I needed to see you."

You didn't utter a word, your back still facing him.

You heard him release a sigh.

"So that's it then? You're just going to ignore me?" He asked.

"She doesn't want to speak with you traitor." Jimin's voice rang from the cell beside him.

Yoongi pulled at his hair and grunted in frustration at his words.

"Stay out of this Park."

Yoongi moved his gaze back to you, taking a few steps closer to your form and sitting down beside of you, leaving a few feet between you.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I was going to tell my father that you died on the way here and I was going to get you out of the city safely, but they found you before I could convince my father of your death."

The prince turned to look at your back, his orange eyes trailing down to the chains on your ankles.

His hand moved instinctively to touch the bloody skin.

"Don't touch me."

Yoongi's hand snapped back at your low voice.

"You're hurt." He stated.

"And who's fault is that?" You asked sarcastically, turning to face him.

Yoongi frowned.

"Y/n, I'm sorry-"

You scoffed.

"You're sorry?!" You yelled in disbelief. "Do you honestly think I believe that?! I trusted you!"

"I know."

"I cared for you!"

"I know."

"I helped save your life!"

"I know."

You breathed in heavily, trying not to let your tears fall. You were hurting.

"How could you do this to me?"You asked sorrowfully. "Was everything a lie?"

Yoongi tried to keep his composure, he tried not to allow his own tears to fall from his orange eyes. He felt like a monster for doing this to you. You didn't deserve this.

"That's why you saved my life isn't it?" You asked. "Not because you were my friend, but because you needed me to bring down the wall. That's why you took the arrow for me." You stated.

Yoongi frowned.

"I'm sorry."

You chuckled sarcastically.

"I wish I could go back to the day I met you and walk away."

Yoongi's heart ached at your cold tone.

"I made a mistake and now I'm living with the consequences I regret it I really do and I'm sorry. If I could turn back time, if I could undo this, I swear that I would. I would make it up to you."

" I don't want your pity." You spat. "I don't want your fake apologies, I just want you to get out and leave me alone."

His orange eyes widened at your words.

"Y/n, I'm-"

"You're what?! You're sorry? God, why do you keep saying that!? Sorry doesn't change anything!"

"I know that!" Yoongi shouted back. "I know that no matter how many times I apologize none of this will go away, and you will never forgive me, I know that no matter how many times I say I'm sorry, the fact will always be that this is my fault and no one else's and you're going to die because of me!"

Yoongi let out a shaky sigh, and ran his hand down his face in frustration, a few tears trailing down his cheeks.

"I'm scared." He stated sadly. "You were my only friend, you are the only one who understands me, the only one I can talk to, and now I've condemned you to death and I'm terrified."

Your eyes were wide at his words.

"I've never been so scared of loosing something in my life, but then again nothing in my life had ever meant as much to me as you do."

You remained silent, your blue eyes watched as a few tears escaped his eyes that had now dimmed to a glowing yellow.

"I should have said something when they caught you. I should have stopped them, or died trying. I should have helped you, but I saw the sadness in your eyes and I didn't know what to say I couldn't think of anything to take your pain away so I kept saying in my head 'I'm sorry to have caused you so much trouble.'"

You frowned.

"Don't be sorry." You started. "I'm the one who trusted you. It's my fault, not yours."

Yoongi felt his bottom lip begin to tremble.

"Y/n-"

"Forget it, forget everything. Forget me, and I'll forget you, and both of our lives will be better"

"You don't mean that."

"Yes I do."

"I won't forget you! I can't!"

"Why not?!"

Yoongi sighed out heavily, his heart pounding loudly in his chest as he stared at the stone wall in front of him.

He had screwed up massively.

But he needed to fix it.

He inhaled deeply and let the words fall freely from his mouth.

"Because I love you."

Your heart dropped at those three words, the silence around you becoming thick and tense as those simple words hung in the air. He loved you?! The man who just betrayed you loved you?!

You began to breath heavily.

He was lying.

He was trying to get under your skin.

You hated him.

So why was your heart beating so fast?

"You're lying." You stated as you moved to stand up in shock, Yoongi following suit. "You're lying!"

Yoongi's gaze was soft on your own as he spoke.

"I wish I were." He said. "Then I wouldn't feel this terrible aching in my heart. I would be able to watch you die and feel no remorse, but the sad truth is that I do love you. I love you with all of my being and no matter what happens, I can't let you die."

You ran a hand through your hair in frustration.

"I'm sorry for all the times I hurt you, for the times I lied to you, and for every other reason you're so mad at me. I know my apologies don't mean anything to you, but aside from all that, all I can promise to do is that I will try and be better in the future. I love you."

Tears began to spill from your eyes, you wanted so badly to scream at him and tell him to get out, but no words left your mouth, only quiet sobs.

It hurt you that he still could make your heart beat fast.

"You," You started quietly. "You saying you love me is like killing me inside, because I know you don't mean it, so please stop saying it, because I surrender, I can't stand it anymore."

Yoongi's heart wrenched at your words, but he wasn't going to back down from you. He was going to get it all out in the open, because after everything that had happened, you deserved to know how he felt.

"I can fake a smile, I can pretend to be happy, I can do a lot of things, but I can't pretend that I don't love you." He stated with a sigh. "You don't have to love me back, but I'm still going to give you my heart. All of it. Every single day for the rest of my life.

Because no matter what happens, I will always love you."
