Chapter 19: Betrayal
"Beware the person who stabs you and then tells the world that they're the ones bleeding."
-Anonymous
"I'm so tired."
You whined as you allowed your body to fall onto the soft mattress below you, the bed making a loud creaking noise at your sudden weight.
You all had planned to be at Pamelia by nightfall, but you all made several stops because of Yoongi's wound, adding numerous hours to your journey.
You'd been on and off that horse for almost 12 hours and you were extremely tired and sore.
Because you had arrived so late, the gates to the city were closed and you all had to go in the back way, not being noticed by anyone.
You were thankful that Jimin had managed to find everyone rooms in an inn near the town square.
Well I say "rooms" it was actually just one big room with multiple beds and a few sofas, but there was enough space for everyone to sleep.
A deep chuckle sounded from above you.
"I'm glad your already comfortable." Namjoon's voice sang.
Ah yes,
Namjoon.
After the incident with Taehyung at the stream, Namjoon never left your side, not even for a moment. It was almost suffocating to never be alone, but you grew to enjoy his company, he talked to you of magic and his people, that had sadly died out in the Great War.
The two of you bonded over many things, finding more and more things that you have in common. And finding more feelings that you didn't quite understand.
Namjoon was a gentleman. He didn't bring up the kiss, or make you feel pressured to talk to him about it, he simply avoided the subject altogether, more than likely waiting for you to be ready before either of you discussed your feelings for each other.
You nodded your head, moving to lay on the bed properly, and shutting your eyes in peace, releasing a contented sigh.
"I'm so tired." You yawned out.
Namjoon smiled fondly at your sleepy form, his eyes dancing over your small figure.
"You should rest." He stated.
You only nodded in agreement, allowing your body to become completely still and your breathing to become shallow and soft.
Taehyung watched as you fell asleep.
Guilt was gnawing at him like he had never known before. The words he said to you at the stream were repeating themselves inside his head.
Throughout the day the elvish king had tried numerous times to speak to you and apologize again for his actions, but Namjoon would always cut him off and tell him to leave you alone.
Taehyung respected his wishes, not wanting to anger the golden eyed sorcerer, or hurt you further.
He honestly couldn't believe how stupid he was. He hated himself for being so cruel towards you and even going so far as to lay his hands on you.
Taehyung released a heavy sigh and continued to unpack his saddle bag.
"Where did Yoongi and Hoseok go?" Jungkook's voice asked quietly, as he noticed the absence of the two.
Jimin shrugged.
"Hoseok had mentioned something about him running out of clean linens for Yoongi's wound. I assume they went to find some."
"Those two have been acting strangely all day." Jungkook mumbled out. "Something feels wrong."
Jimin's eyebrows raised in curiosity.
"Why do you say that?"
Jungkook frowned.
"Think about it. Yoongi has never in his life volunteered to do anything that didn't benefit him. And He suddenly volunteers to help send y/n, the only possible way to save his kingdom, back home without using her in any way. It just seems awfully nice of Yoongi to do something like this." Jungkook states.
Jin nodded.
"I agree. Those two are behaving strangely."
"We shouldn't jump to conclusions. After all Yoongi did take an arrow to save y/n's life." Namjoon stated quietly as he moved away from your sleeping form. "Let's give him the benefit if the doubt."
Jungkook released a sigh and ran his hands through his chestnut locks.
"I know. I just have a bad feeling all of a sudden."
Jungkook sighed.
"Maybe we shouldn't have come to this town."
-----------------------
Yoongi inhaled deeply as he watched the guards push open the dark wooden door. His heart was hammering inside of his chest as his father's broad back came into view. Fear was creeping slowly into Yoongi's mind as he watched his father slowly turn to face him.
The room was lit with the dim light of candles' flame. It was small in comparison to the throne room of their castle, but big enough to hold a good amount of people.
Yoongi's father stood infront of a table, maps and documents sprawled all over the wooden surface, some with black markings and writings on the edge.
"My son!"
Yoongi's tangerine gaze snapped up to meet his fathers, suddenly feeling small in his overwhelming presence.
"Father."
Yoongi's voice came out much colder than he had anticipated, but his father didn't seem to notice, as he approached him and wrapped him up in an embrace.
The hug wasn't at all friendly or welcoming. It was more like a warning, a reminder of how terrifying Yoongi's father truly was.
The Dragon King released his son, a giant smile plastered on his face as he placed his hands on both of Yoongi's shoulders.
Yoongi and his father resembled each other quite a bit. Both with raven hair and pale skin, and each of them with a gummy smile.
"I have missed you my son. Tell me, how has your journey faired?" The king asked.
Yoongi gulped.
"It was well, but-"
The king chuckled deeply, interrupting his son.
"I am glad to hear that. I must admit, when I first received your letter I was skeptical. But when I heard that the Great Barrier had been broken I knew your words were indeed truth."
He stated happily. "And now that you have brought the girl here to me, we can take her back to our kingdom and tear down the Wall, once again becoming the most powerful of the Four Kingdoms."
Yoongi only nodded, his hands beginning to shake in fear.
Yoongi had seen what his father's rage was like and it was scary to think about. The man infront of him had killed his own wife for being caught with someone else. Yoongi hated how angry his father could get. It scared him to no end.
"Father, I have come bearing ill news." Yoongi stated quietly.
"Ill news?" The king started in a slightly angry tone. "What ill news?"
Yoongi gulped, his orange eyes moving over to meet Hoseok's.
For a moment, Yoongi wondered if this was the right choice. Should he tell his father the truth and allow you to be killed? Or should he lie and more than likely have his own life taken from him?
Your words suddenly flashed through his mind.
"I'll call you Suga!"
"Sugar?"
"No. Suga. No, 'R'"
"That's not even a word."
"It is now. And it's your new nickname!"
"Why Suga?"
"Because you're pale-"
"Thanks."
"And you're sweet."
Yoongi smiled fondly at the memory of your bright smile as you said the words. His heart thrumming loudly in his chest. His hand moved instinctively to his wound, his mind going back to the words of comfort you gave him.
"You'll be okay, Yoongi. You'll be okay."
Yoongi couldn't allow you to die.
You meant far too much to him, to just be thrown away and left for dead.
"The girl is dead." Yoongi stated bravely as his orange eyes finally met his father's, all of his previous fear leaving his body as he thought of you.
His father's smile fell instantly at the words, releasing his grip on Yoongi's shoulders.
"Dead?!" He shouted. "How?!"
Yoongi shrugged.
"We were attacked by Umbra's. One of them bit her. Namjoon couldn't heal her in time."
His father released an angry growl, flipping over the wooden table in rage, causing papers to fly into the air and a loud BANG to fill the room.
"How could you allow that to happen?! She was our only chance to tear down the wall!" The king shouted. "You are as useless as your mother!"
"I'm sorry." Yoongi stated quietly. "I have failed the kingdom and you."
The Kings nostrils were flaring as he stared down at his son.
"You are worthless. Have I not raised you to be better?! Why must you constantly disappoint me?! Should I just kill you?!"
Hoseok flinched at the Kings loud voice.
Yoongi lowered his head.
"I-"
Yoongi's voice was cut off, by the door slamming open suddenly, the bang filling the quietness of the room.
The ravenettes heart dropped at the sight before him.
You were suddenly thrown onto the wooden floor of the room, landing right infront of the black haired prince. Your hands were tied with a thick rope and your body was bruised and beaten.
Yoongi's breath hitched in his throat as he watched you struggle to sit up, a hoarse cough scratching its way from your throat.
How did they find you?
The rest of the men were also thrown into the room, each of them bound and beaten. One by one they were thrown down.
Jimin
Jungkook
Taehyung
Namjoon
Jin
Everyone was there.
Except Nathaniel.
"What is the meaning of this?!" The king suddenly screamed in anger as he faced the guards that had just thrown you into the room.
"My Lord. This is the woman with dragon fire. These men are the prince's of the Lion Kingdom, and the king of the Owl Kingdom. We found them in an Inn on the South side of the town."
"Y/n."
Yoongi breathed out in shock.
The Kings orange eyes darted between you and Yoongi, a large smile suddenly making its way to his face.
"Ah. So this is the witch with dragon fire."
You finally managed to sit up after your coughing fit and your eyes widened at the unknown man before you.
He was tall and terrifying.
The man lowered himself down to meet your eye level, his orange gaze scanning over your face thoroughly before he released a hearty roll of laughter.
"My, My, My look at those beautiful blue eyes."
"Get away from her!" Jungkook yelled harshly.
The king ignored his comment, running his large hands through your h/c hair gently. You could feel your stomach turning at his touch and you clenched your eyes shut tightly, trying not the think about the stench of his breath.
"You are a pretty young thing, aren't you?" He asked huskily, "Maybe I should put you to good use before I kill you."
You shuddered at the thought.
"Get away from me." You spat.
The Kings eyebrows jumped in amusement at your harsh voice.
He chuckled happily before turning to face Yoongi.
You were confused.
Why wasn't Yoongi restrained too?
"You almost had me for a moment, son." The king stated. "But you were always good on your promises."
Promises?
What was he talking about?
Your eyes moved up to meet Yoongi's.
He seemed..
Sad?
What was happening here?!
"You." Jimin's voice started. "You told him we were here!"
Your eyes widened at the statement.
"You betrayed us!" Jimin continued.
"He didn't!" You shouted. "Yoongi wouldn't do that! He's our friend!" You defended, as your blue eyes met Yoongi's. "Tell them!"
You watched as Yoongi gulped.
"Y/n, I-"
"Son." His father chuckled out. "You owe these people nothing. You did this for your Kingdom. You shouldn't be ashamed. So go ahead and tell them."
Yoongi frowned and turned his attention back to you.
"Yoongi?" Your voice was quiet and desperate as you silently begged it to be wrong. Tears began streaming down your face.
You and Yoongi hadn't always been close. In fact, at the beginning you both hated each other, but then you both grew closer, and you found a respect for each other. He wouldn't betray you. He took an arrow for you. He was your friend.
Right?
"Y/n." Yoongi started sadly. "I'm sorry."
Your eyes widened.
Your heart broke.
He betrayed you.
He lied to you.
And he just admitted it.
Tears began to stream down your cheeks, as you stared at him in disbelief.
"Hoseok?" You asked hopefully, turning your attention to the male sorcerer.
Hoseok's head hung low, giving you your answer.
Your body shook with tears.
Yoongi took a step towards you as he watched you begin to cry. His heart was wrenching at the sight, and he reached out to try and comfort you.
"Don't touch me!" You sobbed out. "Don't you dare come near me!"
Yoongi stopped in his tracks, his eyes burning as tears began to fill them. Yoongi never cried.
Never.
"Y/n, please-"
"Leave me alone!"
You began to thrash around on the floor, trying to get out of the restraint that were holding you, your mind not wanting to function clearly.
You were heartbroken and hurt.
"How could you?!" You screamed. "We trusted you! I trusted you!"
Yoongi's heart shattered at your pleas and he could only hang his head in shame.
The king watched the scene with amusement, his gaze moving to the guards that brought you into the room.
"Take them to the town's jail. We leave at first light tomorrow." He stated.
The guards nodded and dragged all of you out of the room, not being phased by your kicking and thrashing.
All Yoongi could do was watch.
