The Gathering

I padded through thousands of trees. Where was I? I've never seen this place before. Ever.

I padded into a clearing and stopped. There was a cat in the middle of it.

"H-hello? Who are you?" I asked.

He turned around, his green eyes glowing enchantingly in the dark of the night. His dark gray pelt glowing silver under the light of the moon. He took a step towards me, his muscular build making him look like a fresh warrior ready to fight.

He sauntered up to me, never letting his eyes leave mine, he stopped, his muzzle an inch from mine.

Then he spoke.

"Hello Moonpaw." His voice was like a song, filling my ears with it's melody and putting me in a trance.

"I- hi Nightfeather." I don't know how I knew his name. I just did somehow.

He smiled warmly at me, before licking the top of my head and padding past me into the woods. He stopped just before going in. "Are you coming?" He swiveled his head around to look at me.

Then I woke up.

My mentor, Mintburr, was prodding me with his paw.

I stretch and grin up at him. "Morning Mintburr! What's up? Wow It's REALLY early! The sun's not even up yet!"

"Actually, it's very late." Mother poked her multi-colored head in from the tunnel. "It's almost time for the gathering."

"OOOOH! We'll be out in a moment Mother!" I call.

Mother smiles. "Alright. See you soon my darling."

She walks out of the den and I turn to Mintburr, remembering that he'd told me to tell him if I ever had an odd dream. And I'd definitely say that my dream had been odd.

"Hey Mintburr, you said that if I ever had an odd dream, then I should tell you, right?" I ask.

"Yes. Why? What did you dream about?" He asks me.

"Well..." I bite my lip, searching for the right words. "There was this cat. And he acted like he knew me. But I'd never seen him before. But somehow, I knew his name."

"What was it?" Mintburr asks.

I tell him, then he asks me to tell him what the cat looked like and I gave him my best description. He said that it sounded like I was describing ThunderClan's Medicine Cat apprentice, which was weird.

He says that he'll be at the gathering so I could tell him if it was the same cat or not, and we head out with the rest of the Clan.

We soon arrived at the fallen tree. I smelled cats. SO MANY cats!

Mintburr helped me with crossing the log and I jumped onto the island. He led me through the huge crowd of cats and to a small group of three gathered near the edge of it.

Three cats, one was an orange tabby tom, the she-cat sitting next to him was red with a blue tail and a ticked tabby pattern, while the third looked to be an apprentice like me. She was a simple black and white she-cat.

Mintburr padded up to them and dipped his head. "My friends, this is my new apprentice, Moonpaw."

I flicked my tail and smiled nervously. "Hi."

"Hello Moonpaw! I'm Jaypaw! I'm from RiverClan!" The black and white apprentice jumped to her paws and grinned at me.

I laugh shyly and smile at her.

"Hey, where's Foresttail and his apprentice?" Mintburr asks his companions.

"ThunderClan haven't arrived yet." The red and blue she-cat meowed.

"Oh. Well, Moonpaw, this is Sunblaze," he nodded to the ginger tom. "Dappleheart," he nodded to the red and blue she-cat. "And you've already met Jaypaw."

"Hello." Sunblaze said.

Dappleheart smiled warmly at me, "Hi Moonpaw."

"Hi." I say.

Suddenly a new scent hits my nose and I turn my head to see multiple cats jumping into the clearing, two of them separated from the group and were padding towards us.

"Foresttail. Nightpaw." Mintburr nodded to the two cats.

Nightpaw's perspective:

Foresttail pads up to the group sitting in the same spot we always meet at, it was my third gathering.

As we padded up to them, Mintburr greeted us and I noticed that there was a new cat here. She was completely white with silver tabby stripes throughout her pelt. She had a perfectly curved head shape and deep, beautiful, enchanting blue eyes. And, not surprisingly, she was taller than me. She smiled at us and I felt my heart beat speed up.

I don't really know how to put into words how beautiful she was. The simplest way I can put it is, drop dead gorgeous.

"Um, hi." She meows gently. Oh great StarClan her voice is angelic! How can such a beautiful cat even exist?!

I blinked and just stared at her.

"Uhhh... hellooooooooooo?" She said.

I gulp. I wanted to speak, but I couldn't. Not with such a beautiful creature in front of me.

"Uh... Oh-kay then." She says.

Foresttail sat down and he glanced warningly at me, as if to say, "I know what you're thinking. Don't break the code."

He knew I had a hard time controlling my feelings. I'm able to control myself physically. But when it comes to my emotions...

I sometimes wonder how him and my father could even be related, Foresttail was so... mean. But my father was the complete opposite.

I glare back at him. Besides, I just think Moonpaw's pretty. It's not like that. We're Medicine Cats for StarClan's sake! And not just that, we're from different Clans. So even if we weren't sworn not to ever take a mate, which I still wondered the reason for, the warrior code says otherwise.

So why should Foresttail be worried?

As the older Medicine Cats chatted about herbs, possible prophecies, and a whole bunch of other stuff, I could hear Jaypaw and Moonpaw as they started chatting about things like having a dream from StarClan for the first time, which happened to me a moon ago, that was why Webstar had insisted on having me be the Medicine Cat apprentice.

That grumpy cat actually seemed intrigued when my mother told him about my odd prophetic dream about a brewing storm that the Clans would have to face together.

I remembered telling Jaypaw about it and she'd said that she had had the same dream.

So did that mean Moonpaw had had a similar dream?

I thought about that for a moment, should I ask? No, I'll probably stumble around with my words and make myself look like an idiot.

So I decided to just listen to whatever it was the two she-cats next to me were talking about.

"Yeah, both me and Nightpaw had the same dream!" Jaypaw meowed. So she did have the dream?

"Oh, well what'd you think it means?" Moonpaw questions.

"I'm not sure. But I honestly prefer to let the adults handle that sort of thing." Jaypaw shrugs.

"But StarClan sent the dreams to us. Don't you think that that means we're supposed to solve the problem?" Moonpaw cocked her head, and I could see her point. I had been thinking the same thing when I'd described my dream to Jaypaw. But I hadn't said anything because I thought, she's older and more experienced, so she would probably know more about it than me.

But maybe Moonpaw was right, and we should try and figure it out. At some point Sunblaze will have to get an apprentice, so maybe we can try to figure it out then.

But soon the gathering began, and the four leaders began discussing their topics.

WindClan announced their three new apprentices, Starpaw, Sunpaw, and Moonpaw, obviously. ShadowClan spoke of two new litters of kits being welcomed to their nursery. RiverClan talked about how a few of their warriors chased off a badger, and ThunderClan, my Clan, informed everyone that we had two new apprentices and a new litter of kits.

Spiderpaw and Beetlepaw grinned excitedly at each other and stood with their heads held high when Flickerstar called their names.

Then, the gathering ended as fast as it'd begun and I followed my mentor back over to our Clan mates.

I glanced over my shoulder at the others, and I saw Moonpaw saying something to Mintburr, and he looked right at me.

The look on his face, his already small eyes squinted and his brow furrowed, scared the living daylights out of me. I squeaked and bolted forward, catching up with Foresttail and the rest of the Clan.

What did Moonpaw say about me? What did she think??? These questions ran through my mind all the way back to camp, and they kept me up late that night.
