CHAPTER ONE: BAD BEGINNINGS
I sat by myself outside with a book on Greek mythology in my hands. It was hard for me to read sometimes but I loved hearing the stories. It was my tenth birthday but I doubt anyone at my orphanage would care. The bruises on my thin pale body proved that. I blinked tears out of my hazel eyes, my choppy red hair covering my face. All I wanted was a family who would love and care for me, but no one did. I heard several boys walking towards me and I looked up in fear. The smirked down at me and pulled me by my hair behind the building. They took turns beating and raping me. They did this nearly everyday. As soon as they finished I thought they were just going to leave me there like they always did but this time the oldest of the three pulled out a gun. "Time to make sure you don't tell anyone what we've done." The boy said with a smirk, shooting me in the thigh. It hurt like hell. I immediately scrambled back and screamed, and something happened. The ground around me started shaking and it cracked open, and the three boys fell in. I was so scared that I grabbed my jumper and pulled it back on, running into the nearby woods. I whimpered and sobbed as I limped along, the pain in my leg was unbearable. I collapsed against a tree and fell asleep. In my dream I was a baby and I was laying in my crib. I looked over at a boy who was laying next to me. He had dark hair and green eyes. I smile at him but then I hear a woman scream and a large flash of green light. I see another flash and feel a burning on my right shoulder. I wake up in the woods screaming. I quickly look around to see where I am. I'm no longer in the woods alone, but there is a beautiful woman with dark curly hair and her eyes are closed. She has on a dark green Greek style dress and her hair is braided with gold and jewels. I scramble back. "W-who are you?" I ask, shaking from fear. The woman smiles gently at me and I feel warmth spread throughout my entire body. "I am your mother, my sweet." The woman says. "You are?" I ask in disbelief. She nods, holding her arms open to me. I immediately rush into her arms, hugging her tightly. The woman, my mother, hugs me back, and all the pain in my body goes away. "I'm so sorry I wasn't able to protect you my love. I promise that no one will ever hurt you again." She said, wiping away my tears. "I know you won't Momma." I reply. "I'll take you to a place where no one will ever hurt you again. A special place for children like you." Momma says, running her hands through my hair. I smile up at her and nod. "I'd like that." Momma smiles. "Then close your eyes my sweet." She says kindly. I do as she says and I feel us being whooshed away.
