Scrapped plot for The ShapeShifters

Title: Chapter two

Background:
Ollie is the main character and we've been introduced to this future where everything is kind of in disarray. I scrapped this plot because it didn't fit with the flow I wanted it to but it works anyway.  (Basically, I went more sci-fi than fantasy in the edited plot)

Sunlight streamed through the window of Ollie's apartment, illuminating the neatly made bed. The previous occupant of that bed was sitting on the only chair in the room, staring at what used to be a beautiful landscape. Trees were practically non-existent, replaced by artificial oxygen makers. Everything was electronic nowadays. His alarm clock beeped and announced a way too cheerful message. "A&E welcomes you to another wonderful day!" The artificial voice chimed out. "Eat your meals and get to your work, everyone is vital."Ollie sighed and rolled his eyes at that message. As much as the company liked to hide it, they were working towards total control, and they were already halfway there. Grabbing his bag for the day, Ollie walked out of his door into the hall, the door locking automatically behind him. He took the E-tron down to the bottom floor, a ride that took all but a few seconds. He didn't even bother to read the date that was displayed in bright white letters. It was just another day in the boring year of 2040.The crowd outside was quiet, except for the muffled shuffle of everyone going to their daily tasks. People waited solemnly in lines, waiting for the only mode of transportation available, the tram. People of older age had sadness written on their faces, as they remembered a time when the world was better. The younger people just were quiet, their stares blank and emotionless. No one paid him any attention, even as he smiled the weakest smile he could. Ollie remembered stories his grandmother told him of what the world used to be like. It had its problems, but it was nothing like this. Interactions between people existed outside of pre-assigned friendships and marriages. Laughter was one of the most precious things that people of the past used to do.Ollie barely knew what laughter was. It was like a happy memory that got buried under all the bad ones. The tram was just rolling up, announcing where it was taking people. Shuffling in like zombies, the crowd remained silent still, doing their daily routine. That is until the sound of glass shattering interrupted them.An expression as close to shock appeared on all of their faces as someone jumped out of a window and used a line to grab on to a nearby skyscraper. Swinging like Spiderman, the person covered in black and green, knocked the glass out on the other skyscraper and disappeared, leaving a line dangling. No one moved a muscle until all of the screens lining the tall buildings around them crackled and went out. Then a horrible sound erupted from the crowd. Chaos. People ran and screamed around him, searching for shelter. Ollie stood frozen in the middle of it all, shocked.A strong hand clamped down on his shoulder and a gruff voice spoke in a low tone. "Come with me." Ollie looked at the man to see that his face was obscured by a visor. His entire body was covered in thick white material, symbolic of an Enforcer. "It wasn't a question." He growled.Complying, Ollie let the man lead him to an alley in disarray. Trash spilled out of dumpsters contrasting to the bright and clean city just a few feet away. Cigarette butts littered the ground, crunching underneath his shoes. At the end of the alley was a brick fence and an entrance to the sewers."In there." The man prodded Ollie. Gulping, Ollie looked at the sewer cover. He didn't know what the Enforcer had planned for him, but he didn't think it was good."Hey, I don't think it's nice to take people into the sewer!"Both the Enforcer and Ollie jerked towards the sound to see the man that was previously swinging from buildings, perched on the top of the brick fence like a cat. The Enforcer pulled out a tazer and aimed it at the newcomer. The man simply tilted his head at it and laughed. In the blink of an eye the man jumped, avoided the shot of the tazer, and knocked the Enforcer out cold. Ollie got pulled down with the guard and lay on the ground, winded. The newcomer held out a gloved hand to help Ollie up. Ollie looked at the hand for a second, not moving."If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done so." He raised his eyebrows at Ollie. Finally Ollie took the hand and was lifted up quite easily. "Good." The man looked back out at the street with a frown and then looked back at Ollie. "It won't take them long to figure out what I've done to knock out their system." He dragged his fingers through his salt and pepper hair."Who are you?" Ollie dared to ask, wondering how someone of that age was so agile."I'm your ally, Ollie."—————————"How do you know my name?" He asked the man who claimed to be his ally. The man responded by glancing back at the crowd with sharp blue eyes."I have my ways. Now is not the time to be asking questions, they are looking for me." He glanced back at Ollie who stood stubbornly still. His look clearly indicated that he was mentally sighing. "Have you seen what they are like out there? Surely you can see the difference."Ollie still refused to move, folding his arms. "I'm not going with someone I-""What someone who isn't in a pre-assigned friendship?" The man interrupted in a mock tone. "If you don't come with me, they will come after you. You don't want to know what they do to people like you.""People like me? Everyday people like me?" Scoffed Ollie."Then explain why the Enforcer singled you out and dragged you here."Ollie had no answer to that."Look," The man pulled at his face. "I realize you don't trust me. But I need you to think about something. I'm the one who caused the disruption in the first place. I came to rescue you." He held out his hand one more time and the look he gave Ollie looked strangely familiar.Ollie hesitated for a second before he heard the shouts of Enforcers. "Over there! The fugitive!""What's your name?" Ollie asked as the 'fugitive' glanced at the Enforcers with a tad bit of fear."Chris." Chris wasted no time in grabbing Ollie's hand and leaping onto the wall. No human should have been able to scale a wall like that in a single jump. Chris looked at Ollie's size and listened as the footsteps thudded closer. "Don't run," Chris closed his eyes in concentration. His body shifted into the form of a black panther, sprouting a tail and the knees inverting. When he open his eyes on his cat face, they were a light green and had the pupils of a cat. "Get on my back." The panther growled out, wiggling out of the now baggy clothes. Ollie didn't move until he started to hear the wall being broken down behind him. He wrapped his arms around the chest area, thankful that he was a relatively small guy. Chris, the panther, took off as soon as Ollie was on, the strong muscles sliding underneath the short black fur. He leaped over obstacles in a very run down area. Ollie had never seen this part of the city. It was so damaged compared to what A&E put up front."Why are you a cat?" Ollie squeaked out with his eyes shut tight against the wind. "And what about your clothes?""Don't worry, I have them when I morph back. The ones I left behind were a distraction."Well that's a relief, Ollie thought. He kept his eyes shut, spending all of his concentration on holding onto the slippery pelt. About ten minutes went by of the painful bumping and side to side movement until Ollie heard a very distinctive growl."Get off and hide behind the dumpster." Chris commanded. Opening his eyes, Ollie saw a very different world than what he was used to. Buildings with holes torn in the side of them, debree blowing around. In front of them was a silver tiger, its pelt riddled with dried blood and scars. It was no normal tiger however as it let out a horrible laugh."They have caught your little rebellion now." The tiger taunted Chris as Ollie snuck to the trashcan that reeked of rotting things. "What are they going to do without their famed panther?" It mocked."You haven't caught me yet." Chris growled in reply, flicking his ears back and twitching his tail. "Tell your leader that if he wants me so badly, he's going to half to bring himself here.""What a greeting. Shame that you'll have to deliver that in person." The tiger roared and leaped at Chris, shiny claws extended. Expecting this move, Chris had already rolled to the side and twisted to bite the nape of the tiger's neck. He wrapped his front paws around the neck, putting pressure on the throat until the thrashing movements of the tiger stilled."You killed him!" Ollie gasped, not seeing the faint rise and fall of the tiger's chest.Chris looked at the tiger and put his ear to the heart. "He isn't dead. But he'll be awake soon and lusting for blood." Chris morphed back to his human self, thankfully with clothes, although these were a little tighter than the first. When he noticed the look Ollie gave him, he explained. "Super baggy clothes don't go in between morphs. We have also gotten far enough from the city to get to where we need to go."
