Brynn's PoV

I stayed silent for a moment and thought.

"So Brynn. How do you know the commander ?" Mikasa asked.

"You mean Shadis ? I've known him since I was a baby. He was the past commander of the scouting legion " i answered.

"So you grew up in the scouts correct ?"She asked.

"Sort of.. I lived with my grandfather till I was three. Then he went 'missing' so I had to go live with my parents who were in the scouts. It wasn't that pleasant growing up their but they shadowed me from all they could but.. Seeing the bodies burning from my window wasn't an easy thing to hide.. As much as I loved my parents I never really knew them.. My uncle raised me mostly as they were busy a lot of the time. And I never got to ask my grandfather why the left me there, and I never got to ask them after..." I trailed off.

"After what?" Mikasa asked.

I sighed remembering the memory..

Mommy! Daddy!

"My mom died from her injuries when she got home from a mission. My parents were the only survivor in their squad... I don't know where my dad is.. I remember going in that day to see there bodies before they were burnt.. Moms was there but dads bed was empty.. No one knows where he went, wether his body was stolen or he just left.." I told her avoiding eye contact.

"So.. Was your grandfather nice ?" She asked me changing the subject which I was grateful for.

"Yes he was" I said remembering his caring smile.

"We lived in the outskirts of shinganshina. Away from the village but we didn't care. He was a scout survivor, he retired so he could take care of me. He'd bring me everywhere, into the forest, up the walls, threw little cracks between the alleys and into places I'd never seen before. " I said. Mikasa nodded slightly.

"When did he go missing?" Mikasa asked. I froze.

Flash back

I yawned as I opened my eyes. I sat up and looked around.

Jake jumped onto the bed, shaking his shaggy coat as he licked my face. I laughed a bit.

I got out of bed and fallowed him downstairs going to see grandpa.. But he wasn't anywhere.

I called for him but I didn't get a response.

Then I found a short letter on the dining table. I read it. I was glad grandpa had taught me to read.

daor Brynn,

Hmm.. Weird.. Usually grandpa wakes me up if he leaves me alone. I shrugged the feeling off and sat at the door.

End of flashback

"I waited for ever that day.. And the next.. And the next.. Till I couldn't wait anymore. So I packed my things and left, for some reason I thought he would be where the scouts HQ is. So I was all the way there.. He wasn't.." I said.

"I'm sorry Brynn" Mikasa said.

"Hey it's fine. If I ever become a commander or a captain I'll search for him and my dad myself" I told her smiling. She shook her head slightky.

"You amaze me sometimes Brynn.." Mikasa said.

"And how is that my friend ?" I asked.

"Even though you've lost most of your family and all you've seen is death, you were bitten by a Titan for gods sake, you still smile. And it isn't fake. And with all the greed this world is filled with all you want to do is go back to your home and find your grandfather and father. It's very Nobel " she told me.

I smiled. "Hey, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger, you try walking learning to walk again with a damn Titan bite. I got stared at for months. They even considered chopping the damn thing off, but commander Erwin defended me saying I'd be fine and I would be able to walk again in no time.. And I pledge my loyalty to him for that " I told her.

"Me, Eren and armin will gladly stand by your side, no matter what regiment we join. And if we get into the MP's I promise I'll find them, dead or alive" she told me. Suddenly I hugged her. She was stiff.

"Thank you.." I told her. She hugged back, staying silent.
