Brynn's POV

I stood beside Armin as we smiled at our friends. They all were in the top 10. They could go off to a life of luxury. They would have warm beds, food and the pleasure of never seeing a Titan for the rest of their lives. I didn't want that life, so I didn't care that I wasn't in the top 10. They all deserved it, they'd worked hard to achieve this.

We all saluted as the commanders droned on and on. I glanced around for Erwin yet I didn't see him. I frowned slightly yet pushed the thought out of my head.

After all of that we all got changed and went to celebrate. We drank and ate a lot, which seemed to make Sasha happy.

I mainly stuck with mikasa, Armin and Eren, just in case the ale got the better of me.

"Your really going to turn your back on the MPs for the scouts ? Why would you do that your in the top 10?" A guy asked grabbing my attention as I snapped back into reality. I glanced at Eren who was staring at the floor.

"The scouts have always been my goal. I don't want the easy life. Not with all the work I've put in. I trained to fight Titans" Eren said.

"Well said mate" I told him, taking a sip from my mug. Thomas looked shocked.

"Are you insane ?!" He yelled, catching everyone's attention, the room went dead silent.

Thomas looked embarrassed but he continued on his rant.

"How many people have died ?.." he asked.

"Millions" I muttered in response.

"See?.. we're talking a fifth of the population. If that doesn't paint a picture for you I don't know what will. This is our life now. We can't beat them" he said. I glared at him.

He has no idea, and I wanted to slap him across the face for it. Yet I kept drinking and shut my mouth.

"Yea?.. so what ?.." Eren asked. I looked up. He had a fierce look in his eyes. "We buckle ? Take it all lying down ? Things have changed. Maybe not a hell of a lot but enough. They aren't the mystery they were 5 years ago. There's still a long way to go but we've made progress. Every battle we lost has taught us a lesson and gave us the tiniest inroad towards something like hope. Your telling me it's better to cut our losses? Let all the death and destruction be meaningless ? Just ball it up and except it ?" He asked. No one answered.

My grip tensed on my mug as I continued to listen. Images of my mom and the many other bodies I saw flashed through my mind. I wanted to puke.

"Not on your life ! Humanity's future lies outside the walls, and I'm going to clear the way! I'm gonna take back what Was ours ! I'll drive them out. And as long as at least one us can say that, we're not done ." He said. Everyone looked at him as if he'd just murdered someone. He growled and looked at the floor, running out of the building.

"God dammit.. Eren!" I shouted as I ran after him. Mikasa and Armin followed. "Eren wait !" Armin yelled.

We saw Eren on the steps. His eyes were red and puffy from crying. We all walked over and sat beside him.

"That was uh.. quite a speech you have us there" Armin commented. I chuckled.

"Yea.. most of it was yours. All the stuff you used to say back in the day" Eren said.

Armin suddenly looked rather confident. "Yea well I'm joining the scout regiment too!" He yelled.

"Now you're just being stupid. Come on ! Your not a fighter ! Your life is in books !" Eren yelled.

"He'd make a good captain or commander then " I commented but Eren ignored me.

"I'm through with letting other people fight for me" Armin said in response.

"I guess it's the scouts for me too then" mikasa said.

"Same here. I was going wether you guys were coming or not" I said.

Eren turned quickly to mikasa. "Oh come on! You were top of the class! You'd be waisting your shot !" He yelled.

"Understand this Eren. Where you go, I go " she said. "I made a promise to your mom before she died. I'm not letting you die. I've got your back wether you like it or not so just deal with it " she said. Eren looked away.

I sighed, wishing I brought that ale with me.

"Yea.. well mom's not here.." Eren replied.

"A lot of people I used to care about aren't here either" mikasa responded. I put an arm around her for comfort. She didn't shrug it off so I assumed it didn't annoy her.

We all looked up towards the wall. Over it was a beautiful star lit sky. A shooting star flew past. I wondered, only for a moment, would I ever see one of those again.. maybe.. maybe when we're free.

The next day

All of us were up in the city, watching the scout regiment come back before we had to go up the wall. We were on cannon cleaning duty. I smiled when I saw Erwin come in, only nodding respectfully at him as he went by on his horse.

"That's it commander Erwin ! Did you give those ugly bastards a thrashing ?!" I man yelled. Erwin didn't reply obviously.

"Look it's captain Levi! They say he's an entire brigade by himself!" Another man yelled. I glanced in that direction to see Levi and hangi. I waved slightly.

Levi's POV

"Tsk. Spare me please" I muttered.

More people were yelling and screaming various things at us as we rode past. Shitty glasses was riding beside me.

I glanced over and saw brynn. The main reason I saw her is because her jacked was filthy and her hair was braided like usual. I glare her a slight glare as she waved.

Hangi squealed. "Is that my baby brynn?! Hi!!" She yelled. Brynn smiled. I looked at her jacked and then back to her face. When she looked down she seemed to curse under her breath as she wiped it off. Finally.. have I taught that girl nothing ?..

Eren's POV

Hannes came out of the crowed and over to us. Brynn looked confused as she probably had never met him. "Hey hey lookie here !" He yelled.

"Mr.hannes !" I yelled happily, smiling at him.

"Word on the street is they let you graduate yesterday. Either you've grown up or standards have plummeted"he said. I heard brynn laugh slightly behind me.

"Oh yea like your one to talk. The corps of engineers keep their new chief off the drink ?" I asked. He flicked my head.

"Watch it" he warned, Jokingly. Suddenly his face went a little stoic. "I'm sorry if this is out of the blue. But I want you to know your mom's death still haunts me.." he said.

Damn.. "me to. But it wasn't your fault" I told him. "We were shooting in the dark then. But nothing like that's gonna happen again. We know what we're dealing with now" I finished.

Brynn glanced up at the wall and tugged my sleeve. "Eren we're late" she said. I nodded and we both ran to the wall, leaving mikasa and Armin behind.
