Flashback
Levi's pov

I leaned against the wall and watched as my 'sister', jade, and her husband played with their child.

I glanced out the window, staring at nothing in particular. We were going outside the wall for a simple surveillance mission. Shouldn't take long.

I glanced at my 7 year old 'niece'.. She looked nothing like her parents and I was suprised she was even theirs.

Both her parents had brown hair. Her mom was short and had sharp blue eyes that would catch anyone's attention in a second. Her hair was down, I always told her how it would get caught and she was stupid for doing so but she ignored me.

As for the brats father..lets just say we don't get alone. For starters I hate his stupid accent. He said his family's from some place called Ireland but I've never heard of it. He's also filthy.. Finn, or asshole as I like to call him, is tall, has spikey hair, and has a beard. He also always has that same smug smirk on his face and I hated it.

Their brat looked over at me and smiled. Her green eyes sparkled from the sunlight and her long ginger hair sat on her shoulders as she waved.

"Uncle Levi! Come here!!" She yelled happily.i growled in annoyance and went for. She ran over hugging my leg. I never understood why this kid loved me so much.

"Brynn come on. Get off your uncle " Finn said trying to pull her off.

"No!" She yelled hugging me tighter.

"Tch" I said pulling her off. She glared at me ever so slightly.

"Corporal! We have to leave!" Patra yelled from outside.

Brynn looked disappointed. "Hey don't be sad" Finn said lifting her up.

"We'll be back in a few hours ok? You can take care of yourself, isn't that right my little hunter ?" He asked. I growled at him saying that. It was inappropriate and he knew it.

She nodded and he put her down ruffling her hair.

"Let's go Levi" jade said grabbing my hand and pulling me outside.

I got up onto my horse and we all rode off, away from HQ. I saw Brynn watch us in awe from the window.

I glanced back at her. She smiled at me before running back inside.

I sighed. I'll admit it, I don't show it but I care about the brat. This is no place for her to be.. And just because jade made a mistake doesn't mean that her child has to grow up in this hell hole.. It's better then giving her away...

Sometimes j feel as if she'd have it better if she grew up like we did...

Time skip

We'd been out here for hours. Nothing.. And considering where we were in the formation that was unusual... No red flares or anything we'd just been riding in a straight line for some time now.

"Captain! Do you thinks somethings w--" Gunther was about to ask till two flares went off near us.

A black flare and a purple flare. My heart sank. That was jade's squad!

I turned my horse quickly in that direction and kicks him slightly so he'd go faster.

I ignored the various calls of my squad telling me to come back.

Come on Jade! I can't loose you too!

I made my horse stop as fast as I could, I almost fell off. All I was was a trail of blood, limbs and corpses, aswell as a dead horses.. Why the hell didn't the Titan eat them?.. They just killed them..

I fallowed the trail. At the end there was no sign of Titan. No foot prints...what the hell?..

"L...Levi...." I heard a weak voice call out to me.

"Jade?!" I called out recognising her voice.

I jumped off my horse and saw her. I ran to her.

"Oh thank god you're alive.." I said.

"N..not for long.." She said.

"What?.."I asked her in disbelief as I propped her up.

"We tried..we fought so hard. It was to strong..only three of us made it... Finn's under a dead horse..his ran off... We'll only last a few more hours..." She told me. Her eyes closing slightly.

"No you won't. You and the asshole are going to make it Jade. I promise" I told her. She laughed sadly.

"Please..look after Brynn for us. I don't want him finding her..." She begged. I nodded. But I intended on her living.

"Levi! What seems to be the problem?!" Erwin's voice yelled from behind me.

I looked back. He had my squad, who looked sick at the scene, fallowing him as well as a horse in tow that I believed was Finn's.

"Only two soldiers and a horse seem to have survived commander! I believe we should retreat and get them medical attention back home!" Eld said, coming back with Finn over the back of his horse. He was muttering something I couldn't understand.

"gruaig fhionn .. súile gorm .. .. Ná muinín .. Ná cairdeas .. Fan amach" He muttered over and over again.

(English translation {roughly}:blond hair.. Blue eyes.. Don't trust.. Don't befriend..stay away)

"He's lost it.. He won't stop repeating those words... And it's in Irish and we can't tell a damn word he's saying" Eld muttered.

I'd lost all emotion at that point.

"Get them on horses and get back to the wall" I ordered. I took out a blue flare and fired it, signalling our retreat. I glared at Erwin, making sure he wouldn't say a damn thing.

I went back to focusing on them. Olou took Jade from me and everyone rode off. I hopped onto my horse and galloped off.

Shit..how am I going to explain this to Brynn..

Time skip

As we rode in, I saw many people coming up looking at the deceased members of my 'sisters' squad and crying. Yet who or why they were wasn't any my concern. My squad and I rushed through the crowd in an attempt to save Jade and Finn. I saw Brynn look at us worried and confused from the crowd. She ran fallowing us to the hospital.

Her small body trembled at the sight of her parents.

I held Jade in my arms as we waited for a doctor. Olou and Gunther supported Finn who hadn't stopped muttering.

She ran to her father and I strained my ears trying to hear the young girl's reaction.

"Dad! Are y-" she was about to ask when Finn cut her off, muttering that same phrase.

"gruaig fhionn .. súile gorm .. Lies .. Ná muinín .. Ná cairdeas .. Fan amach"he told her.

She looked confused. "Cad é? .. Ní gá duit a chiallaíonn Cheannasaí a dhéanann tú? Nó Mike? Inis dom a Gortaítear tú daidí!" She asked him anxiously. I really wished I could understand Irish...

(English translation {roughly}:What is it? .. You don't mean the Commander do you? Or Mike? Tell me who hurt you daddy!)

He said nothing and simply looked at her sadly.

"Brynn...come here baby..." Jade asked weakly. Brynn looked over at us with tears in her eyes but nodded. She came over.

Jade held her small hand. "Sweetie.. I'm going to tell you something you have to promise not to forget ok?..." She asked, her voice slightly shaky.

"I..I promise mom..." Brynn said trying not to break down.

"Don't go near him.. Stay with your uncle, we'll be back soon ok?"she told her. From the look in Brynn's eyes I knew she could tell this was a lie but she nodded.

Jade gave me a pleading look and I nodded telling her I understood.. I'd protect the brat...

Suddenly a doctor came and whisked the two away. That's when Brynn lost it. She screamed for them. Gunther, Eld, Petra and Olou tried to calm her down.. I felt nothing... They weren't coming back....after all I did they weren't coming back....

End of flashback

I felt someone shake my shoulder.

"Uncle Levi...Levi..wake up!" I heard a voice yell. My eyes opened slowly as it had ripped me from sleep. There I saw my now 10 year old niece I front of me.

"You slept in! Everyone tried to get you up and you wouldn't budge. That isn't like you at all.. Are you ok?" She asked, tucking some of her ginger hair behind her ear and looking at me with obvious worry.

"I'm fine brat.." I told her, pushing her away from me as I got up.

She looked hurt by this and left. I sighed.

I'm doing this for her own good.. She'd only have a break down if I told her anyway.... And that is something I really don't need today...
