Chapter 15

Out of nowhere Moon started bolting out of the cave, like there were a million dragonbite vipers chasing her.

Poison was startled by the move, it was so unexpecteded from a calm and shy dragon like her. But then she remembered of her mind reading powers.

She must have figured who the IceWing Winter cares about is after.

Poison started dashing after Moon with Qibli close behind her. She didn't trust the NightWing to keep herself safe, whoever the dragon was, they could be dangerous.

They raced through the tunnels, checking the library first. Starflight was in there, alone. He lifted his head, startled, as we sprinted through. Poison was tempted to stop for a second to explain, but she doesn't do feeling bad and there wasn't any time.

Poison and Qibli kept chasing after Moon, boy she sure was fast. They caught up with her just in time to see her bumping into Umber.

"You're not safe —" she started to gasp, but then she stopped.

So... the dragon isn't Umber, thank moons. Poison couldn't imagine that little kid even thinking of hurting anyone. Yet it's clearly a MudWing, given how Moon got confused and mistook him...

Poison blinked, realisation striking her. She whispered to Tulip who was casually watching this unfold. "No way?"

Tulip just nodded back. "Yes way."

"I'm not? What?" Umber asked, undoubtedly confused

"Sorry, not you, I have to —" She apologised stepping around him.

"Wait," Umber said. "What's wrong?"

"Moon, you have to tell him," Qibli said.

Wait... how does Qibli know though?

"Qibli, Turtle and Kiki know that Moon is a mind reader and that she can see the future," Tulip stated.

Right now, Poison believed that the true mind reader is her little pet scavenger.

After some time, Moon finally spoke again, stopping Poison's train of suspicion.

"Umber," she said, "I'm sorry, I have to tell you something awful."

Poison felt bad for him, he would be heartbroken.

"Oh, no," Umber said. His face twisted and it was obvious he was worried.

"We know who set the bomb yesterday," Qibli said.

Of course, Qibli, who had so much brains in everything but fashion, had known out who it was.

It is decided now. Poison hate sleeping. She missed around a million things when she slept.

"And she just tried to kill Icicle," Moon said.

Icicle?

Poison shrugged, content to finally know the IceWing's name.

Still haven't figured why she's so close to Winter though.

Poison thought, before wondering why she even cared. Sparkleface could go be close to whoever he wanted, that shouldn't, that isn't any of her business.

Umber took a step back, shaking his head. "No. It's not true."

"It was Sora," Moon told him gently, even though it wasn't really needed. "And Icicle knows it, too. We have to get to her before Icicle finds her, or she's dead."

Umber didn't argue anymore. He didn't ask how they, well Moon and Qibli knew. He just turned and ran, and they followed.

They burst into the healing cave. Sora was crouched by Tamarin's bedside, crying. Tamarin was unconscious but thank Moons that she didn't look hurt. In fact, she seemed like she was sleeping.

Sora looked up and saw it in their eyes. "I'm sorry, Umber," she sobbed, collapsing forward. "I didn't mean for anyone else to get hurt."

"Oh, Sora," Umber said. He went over and put his wings around her. "Sora. Sora, I love you anyway. But why did you do it?"

She covered her face with her claws. "Don't you know who she is?" Her words came in gasps, between hiccups and sobs.

"She killed Crane," Sora sobbed into Umber's shoulder. "I saw her. I saw her. She's the one who killed our sister."

"Sora, how can, you be sure?" he asked, pulling her close. "It was a terrible battle. There were a hundred IceWings there, and we were all fighting for our lives. Your memory could be playing tricks on you."

Poison felt a pang in her heart when she heard Sora. She understood her completely. If she was placed in the same cave as the dragon who killed Mercury, Poison would have definitely killed them in a heartbeat.

"I'm sure it was her," Sora said. "I'm not crazy, Umber. I got a scroll to look up IceWing physiognomy; I made sure she'd been on the front lines. I couldn't ask more specific questions without making her suspicious. But I knew what she did, and I couldn't let her live."

"The war is over, Sora," Umber protested.

"This had nothing to do with the war," she said.

"But what about everyone else?" Qibli asked. "Didn't you care if the rest of us died?"

Sora couldn't meet his eyes. "I thought she'd be the only one in there. I've never used a dragonflame cactus before — I expected it to go off sooner. And she should have been in there. I can't believe I failed twice." She gave Tamarin an anguished look. "And then the other two dragons — and poor Tamarin — but it's just collateral damage, isn't it, Umber? We learned about that from the SkyWing generals."

He shook his head, unable to speak.

"And then everyone was looking at me," Sora whispered. "Everyone was thinking about me and how awful I am and how much they hate me. They could see right through me, I know they could."

"No, Sora," Moon said, "they weren't, truly. Dragons think mostly about themselves. Everyone is so worried about what other dragons think of them, they hardly stop to decide what they think of everyone else. Believe me, no one is thinking about you as much as you think they are. And certainly no one is thinking about you as much as you are thinking about you."

If Poison didn't know that Moon was a mind reader, she would have either been suspicious of her or she would have been amused at how smart the little dragonet was.

Yes, even though we are the same age, she's a dragonet in my eyes. Poison harrumphed in her mind.

"Except maybe Icicle," Qibli said abruptly. "Who is coming to kill you right now." Moon jumped.

Even Poison had to admit, she was enjoying the emotional drama in front of her, she was a little disappointed to be reminded of the threat.

"We need to get you to Sunny and Tsunami so you can confess, and they can keep you safe."

"We can't," Umber said. "I'm sorry, but if we do that, Sora ends up dead. Either Icicle will find a way to kill her, or Queen Glory will demand an eye for an eye for Bigtail."

"Glory isn't that cruel, she will understand if you tell her your reasoning," Poison grumbled, growing defensive over her future sister-in-law. She felt offended on Deathbringer's sake.

"We'll leave now," Umber said. "I'll go with her. I'll keep her safe."

"But then you'll be a fugitive, too," Sora said. "And what about Marsh?"

"Clay will get him back to Reed and Pheasant," Umber said. He turned to Qibli. "Please tell Clay everything — tell him we're sorry — I know he'll understand. But if we involve him, the queens will shut down the school. We have to leave without saying good-bye." Umber blinked back tears.

Poison hated being soft, but a small part of her hoped Sora lived. She didn't even care that she was helping a murderer escape, she'd done much worse. Before she could rethink her decision, she walked up to the two MudWings and glared at them.

They looked at her, a little worried.

"Both of you be safe, and don't stop flying until you are at least a few hundred miles away. Even if you get tired, keep flying. Eat enough food, drink enough water and take care of health. Understood?" Poison said, more like ordered them, still glaring at them.

"Thank you," Sora whispered. She squeezed Umber's talons and darted toward the window. At the edge, she turned to look back at Poison. "It was self-defence, too. Beware of Icicle, Poison. She talks about killing all the time, even in her sleep."

"What does she say?" Moon asked before Poison could say anything.

"Our very first night here," Sora said, "when I still wasn't sure — I was almost sure it was her, but I thought I must be mad, and I couldn't let myself sleep because what if she did the same thing to me that she did to Crane? And then in her sleep, she muttered, 'Killing is easy enough.' That's when I knew. She's a murderer and she won't stop until someone does what I failed to do."

"Let's go, Sora," Umber said sadly.

Qibli stepped forward and twined his tail around Umber's for a moment. He leaned forward to give Qibli a quick hug, and then Moon. He hugged even hugged Poison, which was awkward but a tiny part of her melted.

He patted Tulip and looked at her sadly before whispering a really faint thank you before he scrambled up after his sister.

A heartbeat later, they were gone, two small shapes winging away into the dark clouds.

"Icicle is the one conspiring with Queen Scarlet," Moon said turning towards Qibli.

"Hold up, Scarlet as the evil female Voldemort Scarlet? And how do you know this?" Poison asked, not even realising she'd slipped in a Tulip-reference.

The said cutie obviously noticed and burst into giggles on top of Poison's head.

They both shared a look before Moon turned towards Poison taking a deep breath.

"Poison, I- I am a m-," Moon stuttered, before Poison cut her off.

"You are a Mind reader and a seer, yeah yeah, I know that. Just skip to the part about Icicle and Queen Scarlet." Poison tapped her claw impatiently.

"How did you-," Qibli started baffled by her comment.

"We don't have time to talk about this right now. We have to hurry," Moon said. "She may not get to kill Sora — but that's not the only dragon she promised to kill today."

A/N:

Babygirls, trust me I really planned on actually giving up on this story, but then a reader commented on my book, and I don't have the heart to let them down.

But come on, all it took was a comment on a chapter for me to start writing again, if y'all really are interested in my book, can't you even do that one thing?

And yeah, I am writing this for views and votes because I'm writing for you all. I'm doing all this for all of you, not me.

Well whatever,

Thank you misanope for reading my book

Cotton.
