Chapter 14
Poison awoke to shuffling around her bed. She felt someone take her claw in their own and had to force herself to not stiffen. For some reason she didn't feel any threat coming off whoever it was with her.
"Poison, please wake up, it's so boring without you... I realised that ever since I came here, I barely got any time to spend with you. I am so really sorry, but please just wake up," She heard sniffling and from what she could tell that squeaky voice must have belonged to Kinkajou. She was in no way hurt or sad that the RainWing barely acknowledged her these past few days, she honestly couldn't care less.
"Unhand me and consider yourself forgiven," Poison said opening her eyes. She looked down to find Kinkajou kneeling beside the bed she was on.
"POISON!" Kinkajou shouted. The dragon in question winced at the loud noise. Without a second of break, the RainWing smashed Poison in a massive hug. Poison was shocked by how much strength she had put in the hug. Poison didn't have it in her to push the little dragonet off, so she just melted in the warmth.
"I guess you did unhand me...?" Poison muttered. The made Kinkajou let out a small laugh, which in return caused Poison to smile.
"How's Tamarin? Is she ok? Did someone die?" Poison questioned as Kinkajou was pulling away from her. She would never confess that she was disappointed the warmth was gone.
Other than that, Poison had hoped that she was able to save the blind RainWing from getting hurt. Tamarin was cute, she was quiet and intelligent and cute. And even though Poison barely knew anyone, she still hoped that no one died, that would make everyone sad and even though she didn't mind it, she didn't want to walk on eggshells.
Instead of Kinkajou, a new voice answered.
"Tamarin is safe, she was barely hurt all thanks to you. Carnelian was likely to be dead but seeing that you pushed her out of the cave mere seconds before the explosion, she survived with a few scratches. Sadly, Bigtail seemed to already be in the cave and wasn't able to make it."
Poison looked up to see Sunny standing in the entrance of the cave. Unsurprisingly, the kind-hearted SandWing Princess looked like she had been crying.
Poison hesitated, mentally hitting herself for what she was about to do next. The explosion clearly messed with her head. Shocking everyone, even herself for actually doing it, Poison opened her wings slightly.
"You look like you need it," Poison muttered, looking away, still not believing she was doing it.
Sunny didn't even hesitate before hugging her tightly. Being mindful of her injuries, she didn't hug Poison as tightly as Kinkajou had but it held so much emotion it was suffocating.
Kinkajou had enough sense to leave seeing that this was going to get emotional.
"I-I was so scared when Clay dragged you out of the cave. I thought you were d-dead! Never scare me like that again. You are my little sister who I always wanted to have, but never got the chance of having. I don't want to lose you, when I barely got the chance to know y-you," Sunny sobbed, her voice cracking a few times. Poison clearly hadn't expected this, for someone to be so upset, to actually be crying because of her.
She awkwardly hugged Sunny back, patting her back trying to comfort her. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
They stayed there hugging for who knew how long, but then Sunny had to leave. She told Poison to stay in the medical cave, only satisfied when Poison nodded with a frown.
Poison promised she planned on staying, but her body was aching. She stood up for a stretch but seeing she wasn't that exhausted; she quietly left the cave.
After some wandering around empty corridors, Poison saw Tsunami with Tulip on her top of her head. She started slowly walking in their direction, hoping to maybe give them a scare. Unfortunately, like Tulip had this Poison-Radar, her head perked up and her gaze fell directly on her.
Without a second thought Tulip jumped off the SeaWing and dashed towards Poison. Even though she was small, and it was a good distance, Poison had to rush to lower herself because of how fast the tiny scavenger was running. Tulip wasted no timing in climbing up Poison and wrapping her neck around her.
She was strong for her size as it was, but she seemed to have put on extra strength in the hug. If Poison didn't know better, she would have said Tulip was trying to choke her. "You're awake!"
The shout finally made Tsunami realise that the tiny scavenger wasn't sitting on her head anymore. She looked around and gasped when her eyes landed on Poison.
"I swear to the moons, I've had enough hugs for a lifetime, stay away," Poison said in a threatening voice, huffing. Tsunami rolled her eyes in annoyance.
She walked over to Poison and wacked her. "Seeing as you have enough energy to sass around, you must be better now."
Poison couldn't even complain because she had brought this upon herself so instead she muttered, "I'm hungry."
"Great timing, some dragons brought back a stash of food just a few minutes ago," Tsunami said, starting her way to the prey centre, not bothering to wait for Poison to catch up.
When Poison entered the centre, she spotted Qibli and Ostrich sitting at a corner in the cave, chatting with each other.
Remembering that they both don't know she's awoken from the dead, she slowly and quietly crept her way up to them both.
She targeted Qibli and waited until she was right behind him before letting out a scary creepy voiced whisper right in his ear.
"Boo."
Qibli let out a shriek and jumped. He whipped around ready to fight whoever it was but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Poison.
"Poison?! You're awake," He exclaimed, too happy to be upset of what she just did.
"Nah, Poison's dead. This dragon is her ghost here to haunt you," Tulip replied in a sarcastic voice making Poison crack a smile.
Wait... how did Tulip understand what Qibli said? Nah this is getting too sus.
Before Poison had a chance to ask her, Qibli brough Poison in a hug. A very tight hug.
Do these dragons want me to die?!
"You have three seconds to get your claws off of me." Poison said in a blank tone.
"Sorry," He replied sheepishly as he stepped back.
Poison had barely got time to dust herself off invisible hug because Ostrich started hugging me.
This is officially the worst day in existence. I'd take father's torture over this any day. Poison grumbled.
Poison chatted with the pair for a while, before she started to make her way towards Clay. She had some questions to ask him.
On her way towards Clay, there was a loud crack, then a cracking sound. Suddenly the sharpest, most wicked-looking stalactite broke off from the ceiling and plummeted down towards the IceWing who stood next to Winter when Peril arrived.
Not that Poison cared, she just raised an eyebrow as the scene unfolded, but she couldn't help but be impressed at how the IceWing twisted out of the way at the last moment, the stalactite smashing against the ground.
There was a pin drop silence in the cave for some time before everything erupted in chaos.
Poison causally started making her way over to Moon, who was one of the only dragons left in the cave.
"You good?" Poison asked her, surprising Moon with her presence.
"Y-yes. W-why wouldn't I be, okay? It wasn't me who got attacked," the black dragon stuttered.
"I know, but the last time I saw you, you weren't exactly in the best situation," Poison replied, shrugging.
"O-oh that, y-yeah I'm fine," she answered, realising what she was talking about. A tiny blush appearing on the NightWing's snout.
Poison tuned back into the conversation going on between Winter, Clay and the attacked IceWing. It was obvious by her body language that she was furious.
"I'll tell you what else," the female IceWing spat. "That bomb yesterday was probably meant for me, too. I'm the target. Someone was trying to kill me, and I'm going to find whoever it is and turn them into a glittering ice statue, which I will then beat to smithereens with my tail."
Poison caught Moon and Qibli exchange looks and even though this wasn't the time, she still thought that they would look cute together.
"Hey, Tulip? Do you ship Qibli and Moon?" Poison asked her, who was sitting on the top of her head.
"Now is definitely not the time, but yeah, I so do. They would look so cute together!" Tulip whispered back.
"You can't do that, and that's impossible anyway," Clay said again. "No one could have known who'd be in the cave when the cactus exploded. We think it was set to happen before class started — so there was no guarantee that you'd be in there then. If it was an assassination attempt against you, wouldn't they have made sure you were there?"
"I was supposed to be," the white dragon hissed. "I'd planned to go early because I needed one of the scrolls. Just by luck, I decided to go by the underground lake first. Otherwise, I would have been in the history cave, and I would now be dead."
"So, who knew that?" Winter asked. "That would narrow it down. Did you tell anyone you were planning to go early?"
The-dragon-who's-name-I-really-need-to-find snapped her jaw shut and stared at him and Clay, her pale blue eyes glittering.
Poison could tell that she knew who attacked her,and she was ready to kill them.
