Chapter 39: I'll MAUL him!!!

Not so far away, under the shadowy cover of the forest's foliage, Emily creeps stealthily along, tracking her target.  She carries a small orb of light and cups it in her hands to illuminate her dimly light surroundings.

She emits a nearly inaudible squeak as the sound of someone walking up ahead of her becomes evident, and she comes to a halt, counting on her fingers.  At ten, she starts moving again, always careful to remain far enough behind her quarry so that she isn't detected.

The trees grow denser, and she smiles to herself.  Perfect.

Then she takes a deep breath and claps her hands together, causing a massive flare of light to appear, immediately blinding him.  She runs in, screaming like a banshee as she snatches one of his weapons.

Krux curses and swats at her blindly as she sprints away from him.  "CONFOUNDED CHILDREN!!!  GIVE ME BACK THAT BLADE!!!"

She spins around and jogs in place for an instant, sticking her tongue out at him.  Then she takes off again.

Krux blinks rapidly for several heartbeats, waiting for his eyesight to return to him.  Then he gives chase.

"My calculations indicate that we can only hold out for so long before we become completely overwhelmed by our opponents."  Zane states matter-of-factly.

"Zane, you've got to stay positive."  Jay replies weakly.

"No, he's right."  Ava argues, finally allowing a glint of fear to show in her eyes.  Fear for her friends, and the unsuspecting people back in Ninjago.  "We're ridiculously outnumbered, we won't make it.  There's absolutely no frick-fracking way-  ..Pardon my language."

"I know."  Lloyd responds soberly.  "We'll just, I don't know.  Have to find a way to warn the other Elemental Masters, plus Wu, and try to stop as many as we can before they ever even reach Ninjago."

"So what you're trying to say is, we're doomed."  You sigh.  "Why doesn't that surprise me in the slightest?"

Morro clears his throat nervously.  "Um, if we're all going to die anyway, at least we can all die together.  United."  He crouches down into a rather odd battle position.

"Morro, you're form's all wrong."  You pull him up.

"T-that wasn't a b-battle position."  He stammers.

"You're telling me!"

"I just thought-"

Ava and Rhea suddenly stand stock-still and shush him.

"Did you hear that?"

"Yeah, I think that's her."

"I know it's her."

"Is she in danger?"

"Not nearly as much as whoever's making her scream like that."  Ava growls.  "I'll maul him!!!"

Emily pauses and leans against the Blade, panting, then stiffens when she hears Krux gradually catching up to her.  For a supposedly 'old man', he's surprisingly fast.  She observes.  She fidgets with her wooden bracelet nervously, mentally debating with herself on what to do next.

She inhales sharply when she spies the elder twin approaching.  Better think of a good plan now, Em.

In moments, Krux is upon her, reaching for the Blade.  Emily squeaks indignantly and kicks him in the shin, hard.

Krux cries out, then doubles over in pain when his crotch receives the same treatment.

Emily laughs triumphantly.  "HA!!!  TAKE THAT, YOU STUPID OLD-!!!"  She gasps in shock and clutches her throat as the first words that she's spoken in four decades finally leave her mouth.
