Room 304
Andy and Joe were walking side by side out of the bar. They were walking towards the parking lot trying to remember where Joe had parked the car. Wait, had Joe even driven the car?
"Did we even drive here?" Joe slurred.
"Yes." Andy said as calmly as he could. "There's the car."
"Okay." Joe laughed.
He was so sick of taking care of Joe every time he decided to get high and drunk. Which was very very often. It wasn't that he didn't love Joe, because he did. It was just that Joe didn't know how to handle his problems without negative influential substances. If he lost a job, he'd get plastered. If he lost a friend, he'd smoke a ton of weed. If he was late on a bill, drunk. Forgot something important, high. Breakups, drunk. Deaths, high. Family troubles, drunk. Got demoted, high.
Andy wasn't even sure what it was tonight. Joe pulled up to his house and honked the hell out of his horn. When Andy came out to car Joe just told him to get in. So he did. When he'd realized they were going to a bar, he got upset but Joe didn't care. The only reason Andy went in was to look out for him. And now five hours later, at 2:00am, they were finally headed home. Joe stumbled and Andy grabbed his hand to steady his walk.
"Hey!" Joe snatched his hand out of his. "Quit the gay shit!"
Andy's head snapped around to glare at Joe. "What?!"
"You heard me! Holding hands is gay!"
Joe's words were so slurred that Andy almost couldn't understand him. Almost. But he did. He wish he hadn't. He hated when Joe got like this.
"Joe." He said between clenched teeth. "We are gay. You're my boyfriend."
"Hell no!" Joe laughed.
Really he wasn't gay. And he wasn't Andy's boyfriend. Its just that sometimes when they stayed the night at each other's houses, they cuddle. But only when it was cold. Or hot. And sometimes they'd kiss. But it only turned into make-outs when Joe was really in the mood.
Maybe they'd go out to breakfast and dinner and lunch. Maybe a movie or two. And a couple of road trips and amusement parks. But that's it! And yeah, they'd had sex a couple of times but that didn't mean he was gay!
"Joe, please. We're not doing this tonight. Please."
"Just give me my keys. I don't want to be around your gayness."
"No. I'll drive you home tonight." Andy got into the driver's side and leaned over to open the door do Joe. He buckled his seat belt and adjusted the mirrors.
"My damn car." Joe muttered as he got into the passenger's seat. Andy reached over and snapped Joe's seat belt over his body.
"You got to stop doing this." Andy started the car and headed down the long, dark road.
"What? Having fun?"
"No. Destroying yourself." Was that too harsh? "What was it this time? Family troubles?"
"Shut up."
"So it was..."
"I'm warning you, Andy."
"Was it your mother or father?" Andy knew he was wrong for baiting him. But he deserved to know if he was going to be the one to deal with the screwed up Joe.
"You'd better stop it." He warned louder."
"They found out you were gay, didn't they?"
"I'M NOT GAY!"
Joe lunged for Andy and the car began to spin out of control. Andy grabbed the wheel and tried to straighten the wheel. But it was no use. The car swerved hard to the right and slammed head on into a telephone pole. Andy and Joe's bodies were slammed forward and jerked back by the seat belts. The airbags blew out like helium balloons. Just adding insult to injury. Andy snatched the seat belt off and began smacking the airbag down. Joe lied there.
"Joe?!" Andy turned and shook him hard. "Baby say something!"
"Stop calling me baby." He mumbled into the airbag. "I'm not gay."
"Fucking ridiculous!" Andy opened the car door and got out. He looked around for some kind of help. The only thing he saw was a hotel. The name that was once up there was torn to shreds. They'd just go in and ask for a phone to call.
He walked around to open Joe's door and drag his large body out. He slurred something about not touching him but Andy ignored it. He dragged Joe through the front door of the hotel. The woman who was behind the desk nearly jumped for joy at the sight of them.
"Welcome! Can I help you?"
"We need a phone. We crashed our car and-"
"Into the telephone pole?" He nodded. "Then you probably messes up the service. Why don't you get a room to rest up for a few hours?"
"No. Really. We just need-"
"Free of charge. Just for a little rest. Your boyfriend looks like he needs one."
"Not my boyfriend!" Joe growled.
"Really? Damn the one time I do guess."
"What? Just... we don't want-"
"But I'm tired, baby." Joe whined.
"Fine. Well take a room."
"One bed?" She smiled.
"No! I'm not gay!"
"Two beds it is! Room 304."
