Chapter 2
This chapter and all following chapters take place after the latest episode so there will be spoilers. You have been warned. Also, this chapter and the whole story contain slight unsympathetic Virgil and unsympathetic Remus so please do not read if that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Patton ran his hand through his thick, curly hair with a sigh as he wandered the mind. That episode was...a lot to process to say the least. He still felt bad for stressing out Thomas and forcing him to put others first. But now he knew that it was stressing him out and swore to himself and Thomas that he would do better. He had to otherwise Thomas would be driven insane by his impossible standards and expectations.
Yet that episode wasn't all bad. He'd always been told negative things about Deceit, well Janus as he now knew but they weren't all entirely true and now he knew that. Janus wasn't some evil, lying snake. He actually cared about Thomas and the other sides. His methods were just a little...different to his. But the two could work on that together to help benefit Thomas' mental health more. He smiled to himself a little at the thought.
Now, however, he was faced with a different issue: telling Virgil about the events of the episode.
He wasn't sure where Virgil was during that episode but it was unusual for him not to turn up, especially if Deceit shows up. It was clear to Patton that Virgil must have been unaware that Deceit was there so he had to tell him. Inhaling a deep breath, he quietly knocked on Virgil's door.
Silence. No reply came from inside.
Anxiously biting his lip, he knocked again, a little louder, calling out Virgil's name. Fortunately this time, there was a reply. Virgil slowly opened the door with a smile.
"Oh hey Pat. What's up?" He smiled.
"Hey Virge. I just thought we should have a little chat that's all" he put on the faintest smile.
"Oh sure. Give me a sec" Patton nodded as Virgil turned around. "Remus, I'll be back in a minute! I just need to have a chat with Patton" He called out.
"Aww come on! We nearly beat that snake's high score" Remus pouted
Virgil playfully rolled his eyes. "I won't be a minute" He stepped out, shutting the door behind him.
Patton blinked in surprise. "Why's Remus in your room?"
"Oh we were playing Just Dance" He shrugged. "Anyway, what's up?"
"I just...well you know Roman and I were talking to Thomas just now? Well someone else turned up..." He nervously rubbed the back of his neck, scared about how Virgil would react.
"Don't tell me that snake turned up" He raised an eyebrow and Patton nodded timidly. Anger boiled and bubbled inside Virgil's veins and he slammed his fist against the wall. "What on earth was he doing there?! He better not have hurt anyone!"
"No no nothing like that. He actually helped. A lot. I would have driven Thomas round the bend if it wasn't for him" He gave Virgil a gentle smile.
"Deceit? Helping? Now that's a first" he folded his arms with a scoff
"Yeah about that...he told us his name and I..."
"He what?!?" Virgil's anger continued to bubble and roar like a raging fire inside him. "Why would he do that?!? To gain your trust or something?!?"
"Well..."
"Don't tell me you trust him?" Patton nodded and Virgil sighed, gently cupping his chin. "Pat, we've been through this you know he's bad news. He's a lying snake and shouldn't be trusted"
"I don't know that he is Virgil. Sure there may have been some conflict and misunderstanding between you two in the past but that's in the past! Just like you changed, so has he. Maybe if you just gave him a second chance..."
"Second chance?" He scoffed. "He doesn't deserve a second chance. And he doesn't deserve your trust. Don't believe what he says okay? It's for your own safety"
Patton hesitantly nodded with a sigh. "Okay"
"Thank you" He pecked his forehead. "I love you too much for him to hurt you okay?"
"I love you too"
