Chapter 1: Unexpected Discovery
"Nooo." I moaned as the warm covers that covered my body was dragged off. I immediately curled into a ball, trying to protect myself from the harsh onslaught of the icy air. A husky chuckle sounded above me.
"Get up. You will be late for your first day of school." A deep masculine voice said.
"Oh screw school, I'm tired. Let me sleep." I whined, not caring how childish I sound. I am in a singlet and shorts and I am freezing my butt off.
"Alright then, I guess I will just have to eat all of the pancakes by myself." He sang. I peeked one eye open, and saw him holding a plate of the said pancakes. My mouth watered.
I reached out a hand, but he quickly hid it behind him. "Go get ready and eat it downstairs." I groaned, glaring at him. But he have already left my room. "Asshole." I mumbled, dragging myself off of my oh-so comfortable bed, crawling towards the bathroom.
Although he is an ass, I still liked him. I have been since I reached puberty, but back then I brushed it off as a mindless attraction, because who wouldn't like him? He is like a Greek god! His dark messy hair, his captivating chocolate brown eyes, his rigid jaw and his body looked like it was carved by God himself.
But at the age of thirteen, I finally realised that my little crush wasn't so little anymore, when I found Dimitri going at it with some blonde girl. I had just came home from my friend's house, and I was going to give him a locket necklace I made. Inside the locket was a picture of us, seeing as he is the only person who truly cared about me after my real family died.
The young me was giddy and excited for his reaction, so imagine my surprise when I caught him in bed with another girl. I quickly closed the door, running to my bedroom. I must have accidentally slammed his door, because around thirty minutes later, Dimitri came to look for me. I had to quickly pretend I was asleep, so he couldn't see my tear stained cheeks. It was then when I realised that my little attraction for him wasn't so little after all.
And now four years later, my feelings have not dropped, but instead, intensified. I sighed. I really need to get a life, without Dimitri. I finished my morning routine, and went downstairs. Today I decided to wear a pair of black high waisted skinny jeans with a white cropped sweater. If I moved my arms up, a strip of my stomach would be shown.
I found Dimitri sitting on the dining table with a pair of glasses on, reading something from his laptop. God he looked so hot in those glasses, it- no! Don't go there Delilah! I scolded myself. I sat down in front of him, and began eating my pancakes. I managed to scoff it down in a few bites, washing it down with a glass of juice.
I saw Dimitri eye me with a frown. "What? I'm late, I've got no time to be a lady." I rolled my eyes.
"No, what are you wearing? That's not school appropriate." He scowled disapprovingly.
"Um, I'm pretty sure it is. My legs are covered, my shoulders are too. What, do you want me to go turtle neck instead?" I asked sarcastically. It was nearly 30º outside. I heard him mumble something that I couldn't catch on, but he shook his head, pushing past me.
"Come on, grab your stuff. You're late." I scrambled after him, shouldering my school bag.
We got in the car, and Dimitri sped off down the road.
"Since today is your first day, if anyone comes and harasses you, call me immediately, okay?" I nodded, my heart melting a little at the fact that he cares. "Because I don't want anyone hurting my little sister." Ok my heart became stone again. I literally just got friend zoned. No, sibling-zoned. I think I can go and die now, thanks.
"Yes sir." I mock saluted him.
"And if you feel sick or unwell, shoot me a text and I will-" he began, but I interrupted.
"-come and pick me up. I know Dima, you say this every single time." I rolled my eyes, calling him by his nickname.
He frowned at me. "I just want to make sure you remember it Lilah."
I nodded. We reached the school's parking lot. I unbuckled my seat belt and shouldered my bag again. "I'll see you after school?" I asked.
"Yes. I am picking you up at 3:30. Have a good day." He said gruffly. I smiled and waved, before leaving the car.
I could see people being in awe over his car, and I rolled my eyes. Dimitri has more than enough money, seeing as he runs a multi-billion company. I walked towards school, letting out a sigh. Yay, school. I go to school in Mermaid Beach, behind the large shopping centre. This is one of the good schools that is close to where I live, but the some of the students here are pretty nasty.
I was tackled at my side from my best friend Aaliyah. I groaned at the impact and staggered a few steps. She wrapped her legs around me and koala hugged me.
"Yay! Delilah is back! My Dee is finally back!" She shouted as if I had gone away forever.
"We met up two days ago." I said dryly as I peeled her off me. I then gave her a proper hug.
"Two days too long! Anyways, I got our schedule. You have English first." She handed me my schedule, and I smiled in appreciation. We walked towards class together when the bell rang.
I walked into English, and sat down in my designated spot. I took out the book we are currently studying, which is Romeo and Juliet. I've read this book and watched this movie thousands of times already, so I feel like I will pass this class easily.
My teacher walked in, and introduced himself. "My name is Mr Franklin. This unit we will be studying is Romeo and Juliet. One of our small assignments for this is to be completed with a partner. You guys will have to write a passage from two characters in this book and then act it out. You will have two weeks to complete this. Go and pick a partner now and sit next to them." He announced loudly.
One of my friend, Andre, leaned over behind me. "Hey Dee, partners?" I looked up, and nodded. Some girls who were making their way over in this direction scowled and stalked off, their faces sour. They probably wanted to partner up with Andre. He is quite attractive. With his short, light brown hair, sea green eyes, and defined cheekbones, he is what most would call attractive. Plus he is the captain of the football team. So it's a no brainier that girls threw themselves at him left and right.
"So once you have finished checking me out, feel free to start picking a character to write about." He smirked, and leaned back against the seat next to me.
I blushed. "I wanna be Tybalt. Maybe we could do a backstory on why he hates Romeo so much." I suggested.
Andre shrugged. "Yeah ok, and I'll be Romeo because I am your knight in shining armour." He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. I laughed and lightly wacked his arms.
"Behave! We are in class god damn." I scolded. "When do you want to meet up to do this?"
"I have practise tonight, how about tomorrow? You can come over to my house?" Andre asked. I nodded.
"Let's get started then."
-
School passed by in a blur. Soon, it was time to go home. I walked out to the parking lot, heading straight for the crowd of students huddled together. Because no doubt that is where Dimitri is. I pushed through the pupils and found Dimitri leaning against his car, looking irritated. His eyes lit up when he saw me, and almost comically scrambled into the car.
I laughed, and got in too. He revved the engine, getting the attention of all the students, before pulling out of the parking lot. I rolled my eyes. Such a show off. The sea of students parted way to let him through like he is some kind of king.
"I won't be home tonight Delilah, I have some work to do at the office. Don't wait up for me. And you can get take out for dinner if you don't feel like cooking." Dimitri said.
I nodded. This isn't the first time that he had to stay back late.
"Sure. Just don't stay for too long alright?" I asked, all the while knowing that he won't listen to me.
"Of course Lilah. Don't worry about me. I am a grown man, I can take care of myself." He said gruffly.
We pulled up to the house very soon, and only I got out. I looked at him quizzically, but he waved his hands at me.
"I'm already changed, and I don't have time to go home again. Be careful, lock all the doors and windows before bed tonight, and make sure the gas is closed fully too." Dimitri said, pulling on a pair of shades.
"Yes mum." I rolled my eyes but grinned. I skipped up the porch and opened the doors. I waved at him before stepping into the house.
I dumped my bag down on my bedroom floor, then proceeded to head down to the kitchen. I made myself a bowl of oatmeal, and went back upstairs. I did some research on Romeo and Juliet, writing down some dot points. By the time I was finished, the sky was already dark. I settled down in my bed, watched some TV re-runs on my laptop, and fell asleep.

I woke up in the middle of the night feeling extremely thirsty, my throat feels like someone had stuffed a bag of cotton balls down it. I gingerly placed my feet on the cool floor, shivering. I wondered if Dimitri had come back yet. I looked at my phone and saw that it was 2:30 in the morning. He should be back by around now. I took my forgotten oatmeal bowl and went down to the kitchen. I took out a cup, filled it up with water, and hungrily gulped it down, then made my way back upstairs.
Sometimes Dimitri might be working still, even when he is home. Across the hallway, his office door was slightly ajar. Weird noises spilled out of the room, making my heart drop to the floor.
